Oh, you better would have whined louder and submitted a bug-report. 
I just stumpled across this issue by accident and added a few checks
for NULL pointers after 1.2.0 was out. 1.2.1 should behave better 
because of this, but I'm sure the problem wouldn't have existed in
1.2.0 if there would have been a proper bug-report earlier.

A quick test (creating a copy of one plug-in in the plug-in path) makes
me think that the problem is fixed in the current gimp-1-2 branch in 
CVS, but it would be nice if people could test it a little more.

I've got that in.  The args passed in seem correct, and for other
(similar) fu's things work well.  I'll see if the upgrade does the trick.

Yeah, that seems fishy to me too -- something fundamental enough to
cause this sort of problem would presumably break umpteen other
things.

 However, it might also be a bug in the script-fu script. Sicne there is
 no form of type-checking it is very customary for script-fu scripts to
 only work directly after starting the gimp, or when certain conditions are
 met. For example, it could pass in a layer id instead of an image id.

Hm.  Will dig over them with a finer-toothed comb.  The same
script-fu's do work perfectly interactively so it's still presumably a
perl-fu-script-fu interaction problem, and my #1 tactic is going to
be to do the gimp upgrade to see if that fixes the hoodoo.

Hello,

As you are talking about gradients, I have another idea about a useful kind
of gradient that maybe I could implement.

I wondered about the "shapeburst" kind of gradient, that seems
to fill a selection with a gradient depending on the distance to the border.
But you cannot choose how far the gradient will reach out from the border,
so for example if you take a black-to-white gradient, the border is always 
white and the innermost point gets black. 
So I'd like to select a point inside the selection, and the gradient
would reach out up to this point. 
To use such a gradient as a bump map might also be cool...
