[Breeze] [Bug 482275] New: Switch `media-playback-playing*` and `media-playback-stopped*` icons

2024-03-02 Thread Jin Liu
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=482275

Bug ID: 482275
   Summary: Switch `media-playback-playing*` and
`media-playback-stopped*` icons
Classification: Plasma
   Product: Breeze
   Version: master
  Platform: unspecified
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: Icons
  Assignee: visual-des...@kde.org
  Reporter: ad.liu@gmail.com
CC: kain...@gmail.com, m...@nueljl.in
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY

Practically in all video players and websites, the user sees a "pause" button
when the video is playing, and vice versa.

Although these icons in Breeze are for "status", not buttons, so they are
literally "correct". But the user is likely to be accustomed to the above
patterns, so it might make sense to switch these two group of icons.

It seems only Breeze provides these status icons. Adwaita only has -pause and
-start action icons. So changing this is unlikely to affect anything but
Plasma.

OpenSUSE Leap is currently not supported. The package list opensuse.ini in
repo-metadata is assumed for open suse TumbleWeed, not for OpenSuse Leap.

If you want to add support for the OpenSuse Leap, please provide a list of
packages and make MR here:

https://invent.kde.org/sysadmin/repo-metadata/-/blob/master/distro-dependencies/opensuse.ini?ref_type=heads

Also, because of the bug 481272 you would need to use kde-builder.

My apologies in advanced if it turns out to be a packaging issue, but not sure
when the packages will be pushed out by arch into stable. If they wait for the
.1 release as they have in the past then these potential bugs never get

Bug ID: 482274
Summary: Kate Segfaults when opening some files.
Classification: Applications
   Product: kate
   Version: 24.02.0
  Platform: Arch Linux
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: crash

SUMMARY
Hey, just updated endeavourOS / arch using the testing repos, so hopefully this
isn't a packaging issue, but I have generated a backtrace for a couple
different files in which this has happened. I see what looks like it is
pointing to an issue with some plugin.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
Kate has so many plugins and the number of combinations of plugins probably
make this hard to recreate with just reproduction steps, but anyways.
1. Open a file with kate from dolphin: in my case I am using fish shell
scripts. Some bash scripts have also had the issue, I can't really see a
pattern here.

OBSERVED RESULT
File will either never open or open briefly before closing the window.

EXPECTED RESULT
Kate window should open and stay open without crashing.

Proton 9 builds don't have wayland baked in.

I can still reliably reproduce this issue. Having dual monitor setup makes it
easier.
I'm using nested gamescope with "--force-grab-cursor" to work around this issue
for now. It's not great as it can do neither VRR nor enable tearing but it's
enough.

[kdesrc-build] [Bug 481272] Perl 5.28 being required prevents use in openSUSE LEAP 15.5 and potentially other non-rolling-release distros

2024-03-02 Thread Andrew Shark
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=481272

I have explored what happened.

The OpenSuse Leap 15.5 uses perl 5.26.1.
That perl version uses GetOpt::Long 2.49 specification:

perl -MGetopt::Long -e 'print $Getopt::Long::VERSION, "\n";'
2.49

Here is the doc for this specification:
https://perldoc.perl.org/5.26.1/Getopt::Long

It can be seen that this spec already supports such specification of number of
args:
> It is also possible to specify the minimal and maximal number of arguments an
> option takes. foo=s{2,4} indicates an option that takes at least two and at
> most 4 arguments. foo=s{1,} indicates one or more values; foo:s{,} indicates
> zero or more option values.

The issue appeared after introducing the short version of option as exclamation
mark in this commit:
https://invent.kde.org/sdk/kdesrc-build/-/commit/5b155c5e29dd2d377fd1f84fb42d0e629a9f368b#9cca8ad07f12b7b754bac5e08c4e360e4c8ab1a3_448_460

This was half of year ago, and nobody complained. Because newer versions of
perl allow exclamation mark. This proves nobody uses outdated distros like
OpenSuse Leap for development.

Oh.. you're right, disabling Screens fixed it for me. Thanks :)

But now that I'm reading this correctly and know what it does, I still see a
problem here: "All other screens" means "All screens except the one with the
mouse cursor on it". If I remember correctly, there was a decision to define
the current screen like this, which might make sense in many situations...
In this case though, because I'm navigating windows by keyboard, I would expect
the current screen to be the one with the currently focussed window.

This was the theme in question: https://www.pling.com/p/2130847/. It may be

SUMMARY
Feature Request: Ability to Turn Off Focus Mode

Currently when I am typing the preview window will automatically jump to where
I am typing.
I am more used to the preview window not moving as I type so I would like to be
able to disable this feature.
If there is already a way to do this, it should be documented on Ghostwriter's
documentation page: https://ghostwriter.kde.org/documentation/
and/or clearly marked in the preferences menu.
I have tried going through every setting but none of them disable it. The focus
mode dropdown menu only shows different scopes of focus but no way to disable.

it, do right after booting the system, otherwise anything that's open, will be
gone.

On the matter of kded5, I uninstalled it and tried again, still the same
problem, but killing kwin solved it.

[kwin] [Bug 482077] Journal is flooded with "QObject::startTimer: Timers cannot have negative intervals"

2024-03-02 Thread Jonathan Lopes
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=482077

I found a way to reliably reproduce it, and a way to reliably stop it from
happening (although not an ideal one).

So, to make it happen, just lock the screen and move your mouse on the lock
screen, then unlock. That's it. Now you have the journalctl flooded with this
message.

And how to reliably stop it until the next boot?

> kill -9 $PID

Whereas $PID is the pid of the process causing the flood in the first place, so
in my case I see this in my journal:

> kwin_wayland[2296]: QObject::startTimer: Timers cannot have negative intervals

I run:

> kill -9 2296

That's all. It'll not happen ever again until the next boot, you can lock and
unlock freely. I tried to compare the processes open before and after killing
kwin_wayland, but I didn't find anything relevant, other than kded5 in my case,
I'll uninstall kded5 and try again, but I doubt it is the root cause.

> Do you have an NVIDIA GPU?

No. It's an AMD Radeon R5 integrated mobile chip.
Seems to be a problem from some update (maybe kernel) because it did not happen
with first install of KDE Neon back in October.

I went back to Windows.

Now I'm on KDE Neon's latest release 20240228. When I boot from USB live
session, there is no problem. But I have it installed now and the problem is
there again. I set it to log into the desktop automatically.
After the manufacturer's logo appears, the display turns off and then does not
turn on until auto signed into the desktop. No boot splash or SDDM.
If I switch user or sign out from the KDE desktop session, I do get the SDDM
log in screen.

Navigating through CIFS (kernel mode; smb4k) mounted directory containing a
large number of files is extremely slow (for over 500 files it can hang for
minutes). However, navigating the same folder through KIO address (

OK, I guess leave it be. I tried turning that checkbox on, but then it asks me
to confirm every change, which is highly annoying. When I edit the text, I
definitely want the edits.

I can't think of any other programs I use where a single common keystroke
instantly eliminates massive amounts of data across the entire contents of a
database, with no method to undo. I also can't think of any workflow where
this is desirable - under what circumstances does someone want to overwrite all
the captions in the database with one key command hit while in a text editing
field?

But I sort of expected the answer would be that it's working as intended.

For me, I just turned off the key command for command + i, so it shouldn't
happen to me again.

I'd agree, except, the issue occurs for me from first login (cold boot), until
I relog (sometimes multiple are needed). So it can't be that, at least not in
my case. Unless somehow these persist between reboots, and somehow I don't
think so.

I've found that when I relog, some processes (specifically the user dbus
daemon, and pipewire) have persisted from the previous session. It's quite
annoying tbh (even happens in Plasma 5).
To work around this, after logging out I always enter a tty, "pkill -u $USER"
everything, verify everything's dead, and only _then_ log back in.

I suspect the core of this issue is caused by some dbus-related state going
wonky somehere, in which case killing dbus temporarily solves it.

Zanshin tasks being unable to be moved to Google or Microsoft

SUMMARY
***
I cannot move a task from the inbox to a Google Tasks list or a Microsoft
Office 365 list. I can create Google Tasks in KOrganizer fine.
***

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Create task
2. Press M to move
3. Try to move task to a Google or Microsoft account but it is greyed

OBSERVED RESULT
I cannot move tasks into a Google or Microsoft task list

EXPECTED RESULT
I should be able to move tasks into Google task lists (to match KOrganizer
functionality) and possibly Microsoft task lists (depending on limitations of
Exchange sync)

[Breeze] [Bug 482265] New: Unify the look of scrollbars in QtWidget and Kirigami

2024-03-02 Thread Jin Liu
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=482265

Bug ID: 482265
Summary: Unify the look of scrollbars in QtWidget and Kirigami
Classification: Plasma
   Product: Breeze
   Version: master
  Platform: Arch Linux
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: minor
  Priority: NOR
 Component: QStyle
  Assignee: plasma-b...@kde.org
  Reporter: ad.liu@gmail.com
CC: noaha...@gmail.com, uhh...@gmail.com
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY

The most pronounced difference:
In active windows, when not hovered, QtWidget is blue, Kirigami is gray.

Also, QtWidget in inactive windows is a little darker gray than Kirigami.

IMHO the Kirigami style is better:
1. Scrollbars are gray everywhere else.
2. Blue indicates focus / selection, so we would like to avoid too much blue,
as it can become distraction.

Classification: KDE Neon

  Platform: Neon
OS: Linux

 Component: general
  Assignee: neon-b...@kde.org
  Reporter: ianmc...@gmail.com
CC: j...@jriddell.org, neon-b...@kde.org, sit...@kde.org
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY

I tried the new Plasma 6 neon live ISO this morning. Generally a good
experience, one fairly big problem though is that full-screen video on Firefox
is not very functional as the screen would go blank for several seconds
whenever the mouse moved. Presumably this was happening for the duration of
the time that the mouse pointer would normally be displayed over the
ful-lscreen video.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Boot Plasma 6.0 live CD
2. Start firefox fullscreen video
3. move mouse

OBSERVED RESULT
Screen goes blank for several seconds whenever the mouse is moved

EXPECTED RESULT
Fullscreen video plays normally

Operating System: Linux 6.5.0-10022-tuxedo x86_64
Windowing System: X11
Distribution: TUXEDO OS 2
DrKonqi: 5.27.10 [KCrashBackend]

-- Information about the crash:
I downloaded and applied `WhiteSur-dark`. The starting theme was `Breeze Dark`.
I selected both checkboxes: `Appearance settings` and `Desktop and window
layout`.
The `System Settings` crashed when the new theme was being applied.
I tried to reproduce it going back to `Breeze Dark` and then `WhiteSur-dark`
two times and I noticed that:
  1. The theme is applied faster
  2. It doesn't crash anymore

The reporter is unsure if this crash is reproducible.

If all apps crash, it sounds like what's happening is that kwin_wayland is
crashing. So I'd recommend using `coredumpctl` to look for crashes in that
component.

Or you can upgrade to Plasmm 6 (Fedora 40 is scheduled to get it) where
kwin_wayland crashes don't have this effect anymore.

adding text, or whatever editing tools is on the left toolbar.
5. Select the color palette on the top-left corner of that new edit window.
6. Finally, Click on the "three-dot" button.

If "Select color" window color chooser should not appear, voila, you triggered
the bug I described!

OBSERVED RESULT

The "three-dot (...)" button does nothing. Just changes its color to just black
or any previous or whatever color.

EXPECTED RESULT

"Select color" window color palette chooser should pop up when clicking on the
"three-dot (...)" button.

doubt it, I've reported this in RC2, there's a good chance this bug was lurking
in RC1 just didn't get reported. Most people, myself included, were focused on
wayland session.

> Also, in the Energy Savings KCM, what's your setting for "When locked, turn
> off screen"?

Setting is disabled, I'm not using any energy saving settings.

This happens on my Arch Linux system too. So far I haven't been able to find a
way to reproduce it but I suspect it's got something to do with input system.
My Razer Deathadder v2 Pro mouse has 2 connection modes I use. Bluetooth is
125hz and 2.4G is 1000hz. When connected through bluetooth, kwin_wayland floods
journal less compared to 2.4G wireless mode. I'm guessing it's got something to
do with 125 and 1000hz difference. When mouse is disconnected, journal is only
flood with each keystore with keyboard.

[krita] [Bug 482260] New: 10 Brushes: the add-on breaks if an assigned brush has a comma in its name

2024-03-02 Thread bugzilla_noreply
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=482260

Bug ID: 482260
Summary: 10 Brushes: the add-on breaks if an assigned brush has
a comma in its name
Classification: Applications
   Product: krita
   Version: 5.2.2
  Platform: Manjaro
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: General
  Assignee: krita-bugs-n...@kde.org
  Reporter: jlemay.emp...@gmail.com
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY

If a brush has a comma (,) in its name, assigning it to a slot in the 10
Brushes add-on will only work until Krita is closed.

When it's opened again, the brush (and some or all other brushes) will be
unassigned.

It appears that the brush names are stored in ~/.config/kritarc, in a variable
called "tenbrushes", and are comma-separated.

Removing the comma from the brush's name in Krita fixed the issue.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Name or rename a brush to something with a comma.
2. Assign the brush to a slot in the 10 Brushes add-on.
3. Close and reopen Krita.

OBSERVED RESULT
The newly set brush is no longer there. Other brushes may also be missing.

EXPECTED RESULT
The newly set brush should remain visible in the 10 Brushes window, and
selectable with the appropriate keyboard shortcut.

It is happen right now on KDE Neon 6. The system has the latest updates.

If I am on the desktop the popup appears at cursor location.
It sometimes also appear at cursor location when I lunch kickoff (start menu).

When I am on a window of an application, it's left-right corner is put at the
center. --- PART OF the popup goes bellow the SCREEN.

Does someone know a starting point of a fix ? It is a daily companion.
