Hi Dekel, I did some checking, and I found some validity in Nick Burgan's message: the documents that are still stored in my ~/gdb/My Documents directory still show this problem. (A short example attached at the end of this message.) This same document, when placed in ~/gdb does not show this problem. However, I know that in the past other documents in my ~/gdb directory have shown this problem as well. However, since that time, I have done as others suggested and opened the LyX files in emacs to check for any mangled contents. And, I think I even this did not resolve the problem. If my memory serves me, I went ahead and re-imported the files into a new file to correct the problem. (Then I went ahead and removed the old file, and renamed the new file to the old name.) During the import process, I do recall seeing babel files in my home directory, but believe that I removed them as I did the rest of the cleanup. I can only open a lyx window and begin my document, I do not do anything else. Perhaps there is a problem with your latex-installation? Did you tried to latex something outside lyx? When I try to see what is this error the answer: missing \begin{document}. What is the meaning of this message? What can I do if this kind of error is due to lyx and not to me? I'm not responsible for the preamble and if I try to add this latex command I get two error messages instead of one. You probably begin to create output in the dvi before the \begin{document} (e.g. just have some plain text in the preamble which LaTeX tries to process). How lyx allows such a thing? I can only open a lyx window and begin my document, I do not do anything else. Perhaps there is a problem with your latex-installation? Did you tried to latex something outside lyx? This is impossible, as I said, the message still appears if I ask for exporting. When doing FileExportLatex ??? Ciao! juh -- Gerade ein Konstruktivist, der die sog. I can't copy and paste from this lyx window to another lyx window (which, strangly, has no error message!), I can't export my text "as it is" to use latex to recover, I can't copy and paste to emacs. My work is lost! I run (french) version 1.0.3-1 Thank you. -- François Patte. Looks like a preamble error, but we need to know more. The best would be to export as LaTeX (this should be possible) and to run latex on the exported file. You may have a look at the latex log file, but exporting to latex provides simpler messages. -- Jean-Pierre
