Re: [MBZ] w124 dash swap evaporectomy
Karl, I'd replace all the rubber vacuum lines, rubber oxidizes and ages. The comparative cost of genuine Mercedes-Benz rubber hose, purchases in bulk, is probably going to be so low that it is well worth the piece of mind. In addition, if I were the Mechanic, I would vastly prefer to have as many new parts to install as possible, and not have to worry about re-using old rubber hose. - Max Charleston SC On Sat, Nov 7, 2015 at 3:34 AM, Karl Wittnebel via Mercedes < mercedes@okiebenz.com> wrote: > Do people typically replace all the rubber vacuum lines along with the > pods/actuators? I replaced all the plastic vacuum lines in the 450SLC under hood when I rebuilt the engine because they broke if you bent them much at all. A couple of meters of the tubing was not expensive from Rusty. On Sat, Nov 7, 2015 at 8:31 AM, WILTON via Mercedeswrote: > Plastic vac lines? I did not. Ordering all vacuum pods. Do heater cores ever go bad on these cars? What about the blower motors? Thanks. On Nov 5, 2015 10:49 AM, "Meade Dillon via Mercedes"wrote: > Really depends on your goal. I think the book rate is more like 14 hours? If I were to pay someone, I'd budget at least $2k, and I'd find an independent mechanic who works on the "classics" because most dealers probably don't have anyone left who has been factory trained to work on these cars. I think you'll really just need to ask directly for quotes. - Max Charleston SC On Thu, Nov 5, 2015 at 12:52 AM, Karl Wittnebel via Mercedes < mercedes@okiebenz.com> wrote: > What do you all feel the going mechanic rate should be for this job, labor > only? Really depends on your goal. I would imagine a used dash in good shape is far less expensive than a new dash, but you'd need to check with Classic Center or MB Northlake to get an idea on prices for new. The risk with a used dash is condition: Is it just about to start cracking? So I should give this experienced mercedes mechanic the 1100 he is asking I guess. My guy here in LA doesn't even want the job. Easier money to be made I guess.
