Re: [OM Cooker] [om-workshop] some info on FISL, very much worth to consider

2014-05-13 Thread Jean-Claude Vanier
Good news :)
UEFI: what about shim? ( http://mjg59.dreamwidth.org/20303.html )

 Complementing ...

USB sticks were absolutely a success, just think have that best we
distribute them, or increase the amount for the next time, because they were
almost all distributed on the first day.

UEFI and Secure Boot is actually a problem that we must give great
importance to solve until today I could not quite understand how law works
the question of licensing it, but I think since we are not able to resolve
this without such license, we take a look at how to license OpenMandriva for
 UEFI.

But overall it was very good, we are now well known, as different from last
year where most people come to us not knowing what we were, this year the
vast majority came to us already know each other and wondering how to help
or then to congratulate us for the work we are doing.

We were also very well received by other communities that were present, such
as Red Hat, Fedora, Suse and Mozilla (FirefoxOS), etc, all liked our work
and some people were even those communities interested in helping us too.

 Hello all

Here are some comments from PCPA about FISL, where our brazilian team was
 working last days.
People do get interested, but they need guidance: how exactly they can
 contribute.

 Best

 Kate

I believe it was overall very good, and we are now somewhat known
at least in FISL circles. There was significant talk with teachers and
 students.

While my main area of knowledge is technical, I would like to say
that we need some work on the wiki, and then translate to pt_BR and
other languages, with a proper description of all steps in how to
provide bug reports, how to become a contributor, that can be from
a comunity person to a packager to a kernel developer.

An interesting sugestion from someone that does so in Ubuntu is
to have a facebook page where people triage bugs, or report how
 to correct problems, etc.

Well, to get docs written we probably need people actually
assigned to it at start, once things start working and we have an
 skeleton, it should just flow.

Overall, our major enemy is UEFI, but then, those were the only
computers that people would bring to us, to attempt to get our
help in installing, usually dual boot with windows, and with bioses
that either do not support disabling secure boot or do not have
 legacy boot support.

 hi all,

if you haven't noticed by now openmandriva.org is down quite a bit.
that's because some applications are flooding our servers.

I have no idea of the reasons why; I can't draw any conclusions right now.

I'm taking Kahinah offline until this gets resolved, so beware that
there will be a backlog of updates. Ask a platform maintainer to
 directly push your package.

[OM Cooker] You can NOT test and judge from a VirtualBox session only...

2014-05-13 Thread Nicolò Costanza
Hi

One review

http://frederic.bezies.free.fr/blog/?p=11135#more-11135

Considerations (perhaps this text. or with a few small modification, can be
used for our wiki)

Trying an OS with VBox must be considered enough to see the graphic theme and
the disposal of the menu and the programs inside, none can be said about the OS
guest responsiveness and reactiveness!!!

When people install, test and review only in Virtualbox then pretending to
judge speed of the virtualized OS only from that virtual environment is like
being a useless and stupid test:

a if a fast and responsive OS like OM Lx 2014 is hosting many OS running as
guests, for example like in our Demo showed at Linux Tag, all guest OSes can be
running blazing fast or at least as native, and sometimes they can work also
faster than natively...

b on the contrary if a slow Host OS as Ubuntu or Mageia start running a very
fast and responsive OS like OM Lx 2014 in guest mode, it's absolutely
impossible for the virtualized OS to show its real capacity and responsiveness
as this behaviour is depending for the most part from the Host inner capacity...

Re: [OM Cooker] You can NOT test and judge from a VirtualBox session only...

2014-05-13 Thread Blackcrack

Hi Nicco :)

maybe it's an VBox an dump and stupid testcenario, but it's for the user
the easiest possible /cenario who it's possible for fast and easy
testing an an actual OS..
it's clear, to be not the best technical/tactical possible for view, how
it's run,
and how fast it is, but for the normal user an through out usable
medium, that he also used ..

at first to be see, whether it is also usable for it, this, dont forget..
and the mass it is easy the normal User, the 2.nd it is the Technical
Peoples

and at last also the programmers ..
but all around mus it works, in real Hardware and in VBox.. you see :)
it's maybe the badest hardcore worst scenario for you as kernel Builder,
but..

buddy, i know, you can do it ;) *bg*

how ever, the Users .. no, the most users test it in an vm at first,
then on real hardware
if works for they are.. you see, this is why VBOX mus be include in the
test,
to works well also in vbox, to be the peoples to be works also well for
they are ..
to be they are able for see, to be the best system for they are and they
are see,
he dont mus trust only, they are can know it.. to be the best for they
are..

with test before in an vm.. and don't need an pure trust in voit words ;)

best regards
Blacky
