[Savannah-register-public] [task #14517] Submission of Debbugs for GNU

2017-10-09 Thread Ludovic Courtès
Follow-up Comment #8, task #14517 (project administration):

This is sad: code for this service that runs on gnu.org will have to be hosted
elsewhere... Savannah is not serving GNU here. :-/

2017-10-08 Thread Ludovic Courtès
Follow-up Comment #6, task #14517 (project administration):

Sorry, this discussion stalled.

To me the reasons to add Debbugs to Savannah would be that (1) this code is
already running on bugs.gnu.org, (2) it doesn't follow best practices but has
a clear contribution record within Debian.

How can we move forward?

(In the meantime, Noam Postavsky reconstructed the version-control history:

2017-05-22 Thread Ludovic Courtès
Follow-up Comment #4, task #14517 (project administration):

Please take a look at the discussion I referred to. Essentially, the code is
already running at bugs.gnu.org. This request of mine is an attempt to
"salvage" it.

It would be ideal to submit the changes to Debbugs, but nobody has committed
to do this, so my idea was to start small.

 Description:
The dmd program is a ``Daemon managing Daemons'' (or maybe a
``Daemons-managing Daemon''?), i.e. a service manager, that is written in
Guile, the extension language of the GNU project. It provides a replacement
for the service-managing capabillities of SysV-init (or any other init) with a
both powerfull and beautiful dependency-based system with a convenient
interface. It is intended for use on GNU/Hurd, but it is supposed to work on
every POSIX-like system where Guile is available. In particular, it has been
tested on GNU/Linux.

 Other Software Required:
GNU Guile 2.x (LGPLv3+), http://gnu.org/s/guile

 Other Comments:
The project started its life 10 years ago, was dubbed a GNU package, and was
abandoned after a few alpha release. We plan to use it in the Guix-based GNU
system and have started making developments at https://gitorious.org/guix/dmd
toward that goal.

= Registration Details =

* Name: *Hydra Recipes for GNU*
* System Name:  *hydra-recipes*
* Type: Official GNU software
* License: GNU General Public License v3 or later

 Description:
This project is meant to hold build recipes of GNU projects for the Hydra
continuous integration system.

Hydra, currently a number of GNU projects are being built continuously on the
Hydra instance at TU Delf; these are listed at
http://hydra.nixos.org/project/gnu. This allows developers to get quick
feedback in case of integration issues, test or build failures. The build
recipes are written in the Nix language.

See http://www.gnu.org/software/devel.html#Hydra for more information.

 Other Software Required:
(Please read the comments below.)

  - Nix, LGPLv2.1+, http://nixos.org/nix/
  - Nixpkgs, MIT/X11, http://nixos.org/nixpkgs/
  - NixOS, MIT/X11, http://nixos.org/nixos/
  - Hydra, GPLv3+, http://nixos.org/hydra/

 Other Comments:
This is a meta project: it's essentially a tool to help GNU software
developers. It is meant to be used by maintainers or developers of these
projects who would like to tweak the continuation integration system; in fact,
it is useless to most users.

As such there will be no releases, since that wouldn't make any sense.

These recipes have been hosted for ~2 years on the SVN server at nixos.org
(see http://www.gnu.org/software/devel.html#Hydra and
https://svn.nixos.org/repos/nix/hydra-config/gnu/trunk/ for more.) However,
hosting them on Savannah would make it much easier for GNU hackers to access
them and fiddle with them.

[Savannah-register-public] [task #10563] Submission of Lout

2010-10-04 Thread Ludovic Courtès

Follow-up Comment #12, task #10563 (project administration):

Hello!

The files in fonts/' are the font metrics (aka. AFM), not the actual
fonts.

However, I can't find the AFM files from URW++, nor the freed ones from
Adobe. Karl?

BTW, the URW++ and Adobe fonts are slightly different, though the difference
is hardly noticeable, AFAICT. Does it matter which font metrics Lout uses
(URW++ or Adbove), given that GNU/Linux distros typically come with the URW++
fonts, whereas printers may come with Adobe's?

Thanks,
Ludo'.

free software project, originally developed by Jeff Kingston as part of his
research activities at the University of Sydney.

Historically, Lout-related resources have been scattered: the tarballs are at
ftp://ftp.cs.usyd.edu.au/jeff/lout/ and mirrored at
http://sourceforge.net/projects/lout/files/, the mailing list (now defunct)
is at http://lists.planix.com/pipermail/lout-users/, and a wiki is at
http://lout.sf.net/.

The goal here would be to move all these resources in one place, and Savannah
seems like a good choice. :-)

There are technical issues, though:

  - We'll want to import the mailing list archive.

  - Ideally, we'd like to import the wiki, but my understanding is that
Savannah doesn't officially support Wikis, except perhaps in some cases (e.g.,
http://hurd.gnu.org/).

Any idea whether/how this can be done?)

 Description:
Lout is a document formatting system designed and implemented by Jeffrey
Kingston at the Basser Department of Computer Science, University of Sydney,
Australia.

The system reads a high-level description of a document similar in style to
LaTeX and produces a PostScript file which can be printed on most laser
printers and graphic display devices. A plain text output option is available,
as is a highly experimental PDF output mode (users are encouraged to generate
PostScript, then convert to PDF using GhostScript instead.)

Lout is inherently multilingual. Adding new languages is easy. The following
languages are currently supported (in alphabetical order): Czech, Danish,
Dutch, English, Finnish, French, German, Hungarian, Italian, Norwegian,
Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Slovenian, Spanish, Swedish.

 Description:
Libchop is a C library with Guile bindings that implements mechanisms
typically needed in distributed data storage applications. Several algorithms
are implemented to:

  1. cut a file into pieces, store each of these blocks into a block store,
and then store sufficient information for later retrieval and rebuilding of
the indexed file;

  2. to restore (rebuild) a file based on an abstract index, reading blocks
from one (or several) block stores.

This is particularly suitable for content-based indexing (as used by many
peer-to-peer file sharing systems, as well as several revision control systems
such as Monotone and Git), and content-hash ciphering (as used by anonymous
file sharing systems such as GNUnet and FreeNet).

It is very modular and flexible in that it allows several storage techniques
to be combined (e.g., different way to encrypt data, to compress it, to chop
it, etc.), even from the command line clients, thanks to introspection.

It was implemented as part of my PhD thesis,
http://tel.archives-ouvertes.fr/tel-00196822/en/ .

* Name: *Guile-RPC*
* System Name:  *guile-rpc*
* Type: non-GNU software  documentation
* License: GNU Lesser General Public License

 Description:
Guile-RPC is an implementation of ONC RPC and XDR (RFC 1831 and RFC 4506) in
Guile Scheme, and for use by GNU Guile programs. It is distributed under the
GNU LGPL v. 2.1 or later. It requires Guile 1.8 and `guile-r6rs-libs'
available from
http://www.laas.fr/~lcourtes/software/guile/guile-r6rs-libs-0.0.tar.gz . For
the sake of convenience, the latter may need to be eventually distributed from
the Guile-RPC project download area (until it is integrated into core Guile).

Guile-RPC comes with a Texinfo manual. Although it is currently distributed
under a permissive licence similar to that used by the GNU web pages, my
intent is to relicence it under the GFDL (with no invariant sections, no
front-cover texts and no back-cover texts) to comply with GNU conventions.

Since the package implements low-level functionality that may be useful to
GNU Guile users, my intent is to release it as a GNU package. Should it be
needed, I could assign copyright for the package to the FSF.

 Other Software Required:
* GNU Guile 1.8

* `guile-r6rs-libs' available from
http://www.laas.fr/~lcourtes/software/guile/guile-r6rs-libs-0.0.tar.gz . For
the sake of convenience, the latter may need to be eventually distributed from
the Guile-RPC project download area (until it is integrated into core Guile).

[Savannah-register-public] [task #5760] Submission of Skribilo

2006-08-30 Thread Ludovic Courtès

Follow-up Comment #7, task #5760 (project administration):

Hi,

I got an email from Manuel Serrano confirming that Skribe's documentation is
under the GPL. Consequently, I updated the headers of the files in the `doc'
subdirectory with a GPL header.

Is that all we need? If so, then I guess we're all set.

Thanks,
Ludovic.
