There aren't any specialized versions of it for screenreaders.

Re: JART and compatibility

2016-12-08 Thread Dave via Talk
I would think the MS Compatibility pack is for MS Word, rather than for
Jart.

Jart is to accept MS Word files, but perhaps it only accepts files from
2010 and newer.

It doesn't take long before the old software is forgotten, and on with
the new. Just found out that Win Eyes 9.5 is unable to read Cells in
Excel 2010 when in Edit mode.So much for my ability to sort for
duplicates easily. Been using the Find feature instead.

But the software train moves on, whether in makes any sense or not.
Progress, sometimes means bad things for users of all kinds, but
especially Screen Reader users.

I have learned that Progress is not always a good thing.

Grumpy Dave

Re: No speech with keyboard

2016-12-08 Thread Carol and Roger via Talk
Try numpad insert key and number row 2. This rotates through the
options, so you will want to hold the insert key down and keep pressing
the 2 until you get to the setting you want. There may be other options
available, like going to the control panel and making sure that keyboard
voice is turned on.

colors in Word 2007

2016-12-08 Thread Carol and Roger via Talk

Hello.

I am currently trying to print a mailing label. I don't think it is
printing correctly. I looked under the font settings and there is a
button there which states that the color is white. Shouldn't it be
black if one is printing on white paper? How do I know what color to
choose and can someone tell me what I should do to make sure the color
is actually black on a white sheet of paper? I looked at something that
said black text, but it had numbers after it, and the numbers changed as
I arrowed down. The numbers were things like black text 20, black text
15, etc. Also, what does the automatic button do? Thank you.

Carol

Solitaire

2016-12-08 Thread Jim via Talk

Hi there Folks!

I really enjoyed playing Solitaire for years! But since the last Windows
10 update the game has been gone from my desktop. I press the windows
key and type Solitaire and I do get a game that way. Problem,
Window-Eyes use to read all the cards, but now doesn't read anything? I
tried redrawing the screen and this didn't works either. Wonder if
anyone might have an idea on what I might do to get Window-Eyes to read
the cards again? Or does someone have a suggestion on another W.E.
friendly solitaire game? I have been playing the standard Klontike
version and had no issues with it at all. Any suggestions would be
appreciated! THANKS Much! P.S. I generally use the speech for the face
cards since I have a bit of a problem distingushing some of the face
cards. BTW, I have tried both NVDA as well as Microsoft Narator and
neither of them read the cards either. .

Re: JART and compatibility

2016-12-08 Thread Tom Kingston via Talk
When I installed Jarte on my new Windows 10 system I had the same
problem. I installed the compatibility pack I used with the previous
installation and it didn't work.
I don't use Jarte all the time. So I uninstalled Jarte and the
compatibility pack. Then when I decided I wanted it again I reinstalled
Jarte. And they said that Microsoft had removed the compatibility pack
from their site because they were no longer supporting it. But they gave
me a link to another one, I think it was on cNet. So I downloaded that
one, installed it, and .doc and .docx files read fine in Jarte now.
I just zipped up and uploaded the compatibility pack installer I used to
Dropbox. So here's a link to it.

I'd first uninstall the one you've installed.
https://www.dropbox.com/s/k0knh4oged1j45y/OfficeConverterPack.zip?dl=1
I hope it works.

Regards,
Tom

Robert,

Given what you are asking in your note below, it might even be worth taking
a second look at WordPad. It seems to handle the functions you are asking
about, although it does use a ribbon rather than the old menu structure.

Best regards,

Steve Jacobson

Yes, in Jart, it will let you do all of those things. Even has a handy
Thesaurus.

At first, using Jart instead of MS Word, seems like a step down. And
yet, I find it easier to use, and it has ev43erything I need to write,
and I write a lot of stuff.

Subject: What is Jart?

Hello,

Jart is a small Word Pad like Word Processor program. I use it over MS Word,
and find it does everything I need a Word Processor to do.

Has the old style Pull Down menu's that lend themselves for easier use
than those stupid Ribbon menus of the last 10 years.I am sure there
must be some logic to those ribbon menus, but I find them only to make using MS
Word that much more difficult.

I use Jart 5.3, and not the 5.4. I did install the 5.4, but found I could not
use it with my Screen Reader. This may have changed by now, or perhaps there
is some switch in the Jart 5.4 edition I have yet to find.

The Spell Checker works well and is easy.

For the typical Home Writing project, Jart should do everything a person would
need.

MS Office is a Bloated Over Priced package with so many features few would ever
use them at home.

Sorry, personal opinion here.

Now if I could find a nice small Spread Sheet program. Anyone know one that
works with speech, other than Excel?

Grumpy Dave
