According to the specs (http://www.asus.com/us/Notebooks_Ultrabooks/ASUS_ZENBOOK_UX301LA/specifications/), my laptop has a Microphone-in/Headphone-out jack. I also have two different headsets, both of which works just fine as a headset when used with my phone. However, Ubuntu doesn't appear to recognize the headset as having a microphone. Under Sound and the Output tab, the only item listed changes from "Speakers Built-in Audio" to "Headphones Built-in Audio" when connected. The input tab shows no reaction at all to the headset being connected. It lists "Microphone Build-in Audio" and "Analog input Built-in Audio." Both the input options clearly take audio from the computers built in microphone, rather the headsets. Tapping the laptop gives large spikes on the Input level indicator, while tapping the microphone on the headset gives little to no response. The form told me there are no such packages as python-is-python3 and dh-python in Ubuntu... Release: Groovy Gorilla (Ubuntu 20.10). Package versions: python-is-python3 3.8.2-4 dh-python 4.20200925 The release of Ubuntu 20.10 is less than two weeks out, so I'd like to draw attention to a problem I've run into. It seems that 20.10 defaults to python3 and wants to install python-is-python3, which pulls in the latest version of dh-python, which in turn can't co-exist with Oracle's Virtualbox-6.1 and wants to uninstall it. I don't mind having _both_ python2 (apparently a requirement of VirtualBox) and python3 installed. But as of right now I can have either python-is-python3, and not be able to do a complete upgrade since virtualbox-6.1 will be uninstalled, or python-is-python2, in which case I cripple 20.10's python3 install, since I won't get dh- python and python-six. Ia there something the python packagers do about this? [Touch-packages] [Bug 1871268] Re: Installation fails when "Install Third-Party Drivers" is selected
These bugs started with a Ubuntu update just prior to Sept 14 (see post 103 above). By the 14th, there were initramfs problems on startup and the hang on spinning circle which forced hard power downs. Then on Sept 24, more updates installed including updates to grub, *nvidia drivers*, and some other things. Immediately following these Sept 24 updates, the suspend after entering login password started. That first machine affected subsequently became so unstable that I tried to reload Ubuntu; but that failed due to this bug. So that machine is now completely sidelined. These 4 bugs are devastating my Ubuntu machines. PLEASE fix these (again, this bug and the other 3 mentioned in post 103)! And please NOTE that the updated nvidia driver packet DOES seem to be one of the bad actors in all this? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to apt in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1871268 Title: Installation fails when "Install Third-Party Drivers" is selected Status in GLibC: New Status in Ubuntu CD Images: Fix Released Status in apt package in Ubuntu: In Progress Status in glibc package in Ubuntu: Invalid Status in apt source package in Bionic: Confirmed Status in glibc source package in Bionic: Fix Released Status in apt source package in Focal: Confirmed Status in glibc source package in Focal: Invalid Bug description: Test Case 1. [Touch-packages] [Bug 828895] Re: Bash loses track of background children sometimes
** Tags added: xenial -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to bash in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/828895 Title: Bash loses track of background children sometimes Status in bash package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: Under some circumstances (I've not worked out precisely what), bash can forget about background child processes. For instance, if the file "simpletest" contains: #! /bin/bash count=0 while [ $count -lt 51 ]; do count=$((count+1)) /nonexist true & bgpids="$bgpids $!" done for pid in $bgpids; do wait $pid done then running "bash simpletest", seems to reliably report "simpletest: line 13: wait: pid 28850 is not a child of this shell" (with different PIDs each time, obviously). Increasing the "51" in the script increases the number of errors. Curiously, removing the call to a nonexistent program causes the problem to stop manifesting. "getconf CHILD_MAX" returns "undefined", which I think means that Bash should support an unlimited number of unwaited children. I've observed this on two different amd64 boxes running Ubuntu 10.04 LTS, and it persisted after I upgraded the bash package to 4.2-0ubuntu4. I couldn't reproduce it on an i386 box running Ubuntu 11.04. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1894872] Re: [HP 15 Notebook] Audio stuttering in Ubuntu
Status changed to 'Confirmed' because the bug affects multiple users. ** Changed in: pulseaudio (Ubuntu) Status: New => Confirmed -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to pulseaudio in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1894872 Title: [HP 15 Notebook] Audio stuttering in Ubuntu Status in pulseaudio package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: The audio is stuttering at random times, a short (about a second or less) repeated sound occurs, in the browser, in VLC or even the system sounds, and it's actually annoying. I tried Fedora 32 but the same issue there, and I tried OpenSUSE Leap 15.2 but it never happened. My search led me to an Arch article explaining the situation: "The newer implementation of the PulseAudio sound server uses timer-based audio scheduling instead of the traditional, interrupt-driven approach. Timer-based scheduling may expose issues in some ALSA drivers. On the other hand, other drivers might be glitchy without it on, so check to see what works on your system." See https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/PulseAudio/Troubleshooting#Glitches,_skips_or_crackling I tried the proposed solutions but it Don't work. Further search led me to the conclusion that it's an old bug: It happened in 16.04, see: https://askubuntu.com/questions/915904/audio-glitches-every-2-10-minutes-ubuntu-16-04 and 18.04, see: https://askubuntu.com/questions/1044552/audio-stuttering-in-ubuntu-18-04 It turned out that there is a bug in kernel which causes audio stutter if a wifi enabled yet not connected to any wifi network. I have an internal wifi card that is enabled but I don't use it, and a USB wifi adapter which I use. So I disabled my internal unused wifi card by blacklisting it and then reboot, and so far everything works fine (about 2 hours of testing). I re-enabled it and the stutter happened again. So I reported this bug while both cards are enabled. I don't mind blacklisting the unused card, but I think it's better to report such bug.
