BTW, same performance regression is observed using the lts-xenial stack
(coupled with kernel 4.4).
It isn't EOL.

The package, however, is in the official Ubuntu repositories.

That is the reason why I'm reporting the bug.

Cheers!

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1598593] Re: No video acceleration for Radeon Xpress 200M (r300)

2016-07-04 Thread indigocat
Tried adding "vblank_mode=0" to /etc/drirc, Option "SwapbuffersWait"
"false" to /etc/X11/xorg.conf as well as Option "DRI" "3". While
performance of the Wily Xorg stack is overall worse than Vivid, DRI3 is
definitely the insult added to injury, so to speak.

What information would you need from my system to begin pinpointing
possible problems or confirming possible regressions?

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1598593] Re: No video acceleration for Radeon Xpress 200M (r300)

2016-08-23 Thread indigocat
Packages are plain, vanilla Ubuntu.

Here are 2 videos: the first is using the Vivid xorg stack, YouTube
fullscreen on Chromium. The second video is the same, under the Xenial
stack.

Vivid: https://youtu.be/Ykhp2L_pf7Y
Xenial: https://youtu.be/p7FvXTzlIa0

The regression is patent, and it was already there in Wily.

It would be nice to know if someone going to read what I'm typing here,
or if I can just quit reporting bugs and use that spare time in going
for a walk or having a beer with friends.

In case anyone closes this thread, go here:

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1646140] [NEW] Radeon Xpress 200M - performance regression in video playback with Wily stack (Vivid is last working stack)

2016-11-30 Thread indigocat
Public bug reported:

After updating the Ubuntu HWE stack in 14.04 to Wily (kernel 4.2 and
xserver-xorg-video-radeon-lts-wily), system boots up fine, but screen is
laggy; although DRI3 is now enabled (according to Xorg.0.log), 2D
acceleration seems to be gone.

System is an older Pentium laptop (Packard Bell EasyNote) with a Radeon
Xpress 200M chip (r300 driver). Video acceleration was working with DRI2

stacks.
(Testing with Oibaf's PPA or Xorg-edgers repo did not solve the problem either,
so I purged the PPAs and reverted to official Ubuntu sources)

We already bisected and tested Xorg versions with the package
maintainers, and could not determine a consistent culprit, so the
suggestion is that perhaps a newer Mesa version after Vivid is impairing
video acceleration in 2D content display. Which Mesa package could be
showing a regression, I do not know how to assess, so I'm eager for your
input.

Here is the original report, with logs and bisect results:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1598593

Tell me what else you need, I'll get it for you.

Because you had said it could be related to Mesa, so I asked again
referring to the Mesa package.

Close it if you want.
I guess I'll never ask for help anymore.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1711483] Re: Crackling sound after resuming from suspend

2017-08-18 Thread indigocat
I checked in Firefox 55, which routes all audio via PulseAudio, and
sound is perfect.

There may be a problem between chromium-browser and pulseaudio.

** Description changed:

PulseAudio exhibits abnormal behavior after resuming from suspend:
- Crackling sound present during HTML5 video playback in browsers (Chromium,
Firefox, Chrome).
+ Crackling sound present during HTML5 video playback in Chromium 60.

  I tried adding tsched=0 to load-module module-udev-detect in
  /etc/pulse/default.pa, and it didn't work.

I slightly increased fragment number and size in /etc/pulse/daemon.conf,
  didn't work either.

Before suspending, multiple sound sources can be handled without problems nor
audible noise.
After suspending machine, sound source is noisy/crackling, as if there were
buffer underruns.

Title:
Crackling sound after resuming from suspend

Status in pulseaudio package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
PulseAudio exhibits abnormal behavior after resuming from suspend:
Crackling sound present during HTML5 video playback in browsers (Chromium,
Firefox, Chrome).

  I tried adding tsched=0 to load-module module-udev-detect in
  /etc/pulse/default.pa, and it didn't work.

I slightly increased fragment number and size in
  /etc/pulse/daemon.conf, didn't work either.

Before suspending, multiple sound sources can be handled without problems nor
audible noise.
After suspending machine, sound source is noisy/crackling, as if there were
buffer underruns.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1641417] Re: Ubuntu 16.04 unable to detect/connect to and work properly with iPhone 4.

2017-12-24 Thread indigocat
Same here; via file manager, entering afc://[device's uuid] allows for
file management, but neither Rhythmbox or Banshee can manage audio files
anymore.

Ubuntu 16.04 & elementary OS (based on Ubuntu 16.04).
Kernel: vanilla Ubuntu 4.4.0-104

Title:
Ubuntu 16.04 unable to detect/connect to and work properly with
  iPhone 4.

Status in libimobiledevice package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:

Action 1: Plug an iPhone 4 to a just booted up Ubuntu 16.04 workstation.
Result 1: 2 iPhone connections appear in Nautilus. 1st connect is mount via
gphoto2, where access is limited to viewing and copying photos and videos. The
2nd connection that is mounted via afc fail to work, hence other folders in
iPhone are not accessible.

Action 2: Unplugged and re-plugged iPhone 4 to the workstation.
Result 2: iPhone 4 does not reappear in Nautilus at all. No iPhone mount
point appear.

  Checks and Remedy used:
  1. "ideviceinfo" and lsusb command show iPhone 4 is connected.
  2. "idevicepair validate" command shows "SUCCESS: Validated pairing with
device [UDID]"
  3. After running "ifuse /media/iPhone" command, iPhone 4 reappears in
Nautilus as mounted in /media/iPhone. Furthermore, all folders of iPhone 4
appears and are accessible.

I believe the 1st mounting of iPhone 4 on Nautilus is due to the
  "gvfs-backends" package. W/o it, auto detection/connection of iPhone 4
would not occur and appear in Nautilus. However, the afc mount failed
  to work

The 2nd mounting is caused by ifuse. This works perfectly but requires
  manual mounting and unmounting.

  Questions:
  1. How to overcome issues/failures mentioned in Result 1 & 2?
  2. Ideally, i would like the automatic detection-connection between Ubuntu
and iPhone to work. If not, is there a way to automate connection via ifuse?

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1740159] [NEW] Can't sync iPod (touch 2G): device recognized by file manager but not by media players / managers

2017-12-26 Thread indigocat
Public bug reported:

Can't sync iPod (touch 2G): when mounting in file manager, the access
address afc://[device uuid] appends a ":3" at the end, so it turns to
afc://[uuid]:3, which the file manager shows as an empty location.

Removing the ":3" at the end and entering afc://[device uuid] manualy
shows the iPod's root filesystem, which could in theory be managed by
gtkpod, Rhythmbox or Banshee.

However, I can't seem to find a way to disable the arbitrary ":3" added
automatically by the mounter.
This behaviour began after updating the library (it has worked fine before, in
the same OS in 2 different machines, being able to transfer music files).

I've googled for a week looking for a similar problem reported, and none was
found so far, hence the bug report.
Please let me know what other culprit there may be, to begin pinpointing the
cause somewhere else, if necessary. (gvfs, perhaps?)

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1788240] [NEW] After session logout, black screen (screen off, not black)

2018-08-21 Thread indigocat
Public bug reported:

# What happens:

In Ubuntu 16.04 / elementaryOS, after session logout, I get a black
screen (screen is off, not illuminated as a black background), with no
user input options.

# What should happen:
Go back to the session greeter where I can log in again.

# How this happens:

This happens after a couple of hours of intensive use (4 Gb of RAM almost
maxed-out, swapped about 2Gb on an 8Gb partition).
If I use the computer for a half hour or so, this problem doesn't happen.

# Workarounds tested:

- Disabled services such as MegaSync and Dropbox, problem persists.
- Switched kernels: 4.4 LTS series (currently 4.4.0-133-generic) and 4.13 &
4.15 HWE series; problem persists.
- Switched xorg stack versions: xorg regular / LTS and the HWE branch; problem
persists.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1788240] Re: After session logout, black screen (screen off, not black)

2018-08-21 Thread indigocat
** Description changed:

  # What happens:

In Ubuntu 16.04 / elementaryOS, after session logout, I get a black
screen (screen is off, not illuminated as a black background), with no
- user input options.
+ user input options, and unable to switch to consoles using
+ Ctrl+F1/F2/etc.

  - Switched xorg stack versions: xorg regular / LTS and the HWE branch;
problem persists.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1789950] [NEW] [Bluetooth speaker BSP08WBT, playback] No bluetooth playback possible after resuming from suspend

2018-08-30 Thread indigocat
Public bug reported:

# What happens:
After resuming from suspend, audio playback to bluetooth speaker isn't
possible, only the machine's internal speakers work.

Bluetooth speaker is a selectable option as output, but audio is not
routed to bluetooth speaker, playback defaults to internal speakers even
if bluetooth speaker is selected.

#What should happen:
When choosing the bluetooth speaker as audio output device, audio should be
immediately routed to bluetooth speaker.

#Troubleshoting:
Already tried `pulseaudio --kill; pulseaudio --start`, `sudo hciconfig hci0
reset`, and `sudo service udev restart`. Problem persists.

I'm using kernel 4.4.0-134-generic.
Cannot use kernel 4.15+ on this machine (older Lenovo T410s), as performance
drops impressively, due to sub-optimal disk i/o in comparison to 4.4, at least
on this machine.

Bug description:
After updating the Ubuntu HWE stack in 14.04 to Xenial (kernel 4.4 and
xserver-xorg-video-radeon-lts-xenial), system boots up fine and
responsively, but screen is laggy; there is a tremendous performance
regression in comparison to xorg-lts-vivid. Lots of video tearing that
did not occur when using xserver-xorg-video-radeon-lts-vivid.

System is an older Pentium laptop (Packard Bell EasyNote) with a Radeon
Xpress 200M chip (r300 driver). Video acceleration was working with DRI2 under
the Vivid stack (kernel 3.19-64-lowlatency +
xserver-xorg-video-radeon-lts-vivid).
I also tried upgrading to the Wily kernel (4.2.0-lowlatency), and video
acceleration works fine with the Vivid xorg.

I reported this in launchpad previously, and it was dismissed as "invalid"
since Wily is EOL.
The problem, however, persists in the Xenial stack, so I'm reporting it here.

Attached are the respective Xorg.0 logs.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1641417] Re: Ubuntu 16.04 unable to detect/connect to and work properly with iPhone 4.

2019-12-03 Thread indigocat
Hi, #3 is *still* an issue, as I can't access my iPod, which is
recognized by the USB subsystem, but file managers in general only seem
to access it via gphoto2:// protocol instead of afc:// (which seems to
be recognized as a network protocol).

Syncing files via Rhythmbox or Banshee isn't possible anymore due to this bug.
Entering afc://{devide_uuid} on any file manager allows for accessing the
iPod's filesystem and copying the music folder manually, but this is only
useful as a music backup procedure.

Transferring music *to* the iPod in a way that the device will recognize
is impossible, and has been so at least for the past 3 years.

Title:
Can't sync iPod (touch 2G): device recognized by file manager but not
  by media players / managers

Status in libimobiledevice package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
Can't sync iPod (touch 2G): when mounting in file manager, the access
address afc://[device uuid] appends a ":3" at the end, so it turns to
afc://[uuid]:3, which the file manager shows as an empty location.

There are 2 devices / mount points after connecting the iPod and opening a
file manager:
-"iPod"; when clicking "properties", the protocol used for it is gphoto2://
(?)
-"iPod Documentation"; this mount point is opened via afc://[device uuid],
and should show the iPod's root file system.
Removing the ":3" at the end and entering afc://[device uuid] manually shows
the iPod's root filesystem, which could in theory be managed by gtkpod,
Rhythmbox or Banshee.

However, I can't seem to find a way to disable the arbitrary ":3" added
automatically by the mounter.
This behaviour began after updating the library (it has worked fine before,
in the same OS in 2 different machines, being able to transfer music files).

I've googled for a week looking for a similar problem reported, and none was
found so far, hence the bug report.
Please let me know what other culprit there may be, to begin pinpointing the
cause somewhere else, if necessary.

[Bluetooth speaker BSP08WBT, playback] No bluetooth playback possible
  after resuming from suspend

Status in alsa-driver package in Ubuntu:
  Invalid

Bug description:
  # What happens:
After resuming from suspend, audio playback to bluetooth speaker isn't
possible, only the machine's internal speakers work.

Bluetooth speaker is a selectable option as output, but audio is not
routed to bluetooth speaker, playback defaults to internal speakers
even if bluetooth speaker is selected.

Unable to use dead keys in Java apps

Status in ibus package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
This is same bug as #540751, as it happens again in Ubuntu 19.10 with
Java 11. Way of reproduce it:

  - Fresh Ubuntu 19.10 install.
  - Install default-jre.
  - Download (for example) lastest NetBeans version.
  - Edit a file in NetBeans, you can't insert characters like 'á'.

The workaround is the same, define XMODIFIERS='' before launching the
  app.
