Re: [Bug 61463] Re: Script that are using bash could be broken with the new symlink

2007-04-10 Thread sparr
Once again I feel the need to point out that this change is no worse
than upgrading from XFree to X.org, or from GCC2/3 to GCC3/4. Those
changes also "broke"* many existing programs, build processes, and
scripts, but we made them for the greater good.

* "broke" in this context meaning "exposed existing previously-hidden
brokenness in". The changes did not actually break anything (with few
exceptions like posix echo), they simply brought to light problems
that have always existed in those packages.

[Bug 105287] dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg -phigh or -pmedium should add Load "glx"

2007-04-10 Thread Timo Jyrinki
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

It seems that dpkg-reconfigure on -phigh or -pmedium does not put Load
"glx" under the Module section, thus breaking 3D. As the dpkg-
reconfigure is (apparently?) the recommended way to regenerate
broken/erronous xorg files, it should add the glx module too to have
working configuration.

Re: [Bug 94095] Re: Ethernet interface not configured at boot time

Hi Ubuntu Team,
I have the April 10 updates. Unfortunately, I still need to manually click
on the double-monitor icon and select "wired network" every time I boot up
my Ubuntu 7.04. Older versions didn't do this. Is it going to be fixed in an
update?

I'd first like to fix this crash, and then add more code, the patch is
adding a bit too much feature at this point, so I'd rather have it
reviewed by Luka first. I'd like to fix the crash anyway, quickly.

[Bug 105284] SD cardreader (TI) doesn't mount memory cards

2007-04-10 Thread Bernhard Gehl
Public bug reported:

package:
I am not sure if it should belong to linux-image-2.6.20 or linux-source-2.6.20.
It might be a mmc-bug or a tifm-bug - I'm no pro.

problem:
Since upgrading from kernel 2.6.20-12 to 2.6.20-13 (persists in -14 as of
10.04.07) sd-cards are not mounted anymore by the TI PCIxx12 cardreader of my
LG S1 laptop (Kubuntu/Ubuntu mix in current version). To state it again: it
worked before the kernel update and it worked before with specially compiled
tifm* modules. These self-compiled modules are of course no longer present on
the system.

[Bug 105286] Nautilus uses lots of memory when deleting directory with many small files

2007-04-10 Thread Mika Fischer
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: nautilus

I have a directory containing about 6 small BMP images (2 kB each).
When I open it in Nautilus and wait until it has generated its
thumbnails and then go to the parent folder and try to delete the
directory (I'm using SHIFT+Delete), Nautilus starts eating memory until
I kill it. Attached is a screenshot where Nautilus has a VSS of about 3
GB! Smells like a memory leak somewhere...

I'm running a current Feisty installation.

I'm inclined to not do anything about this, changing the primary user's
group is something you only do when you know the exact implications of
that, and that included fixing groups yourself. I wouldn't want a tool
to run over my homedir and change the file permissions automatically.

I know. But the error message told me so file this report.

Anyway it implies another error, during installation i am told that there
must be a / partition with 2G free, so I made a / part with 2.1G but this

[Bug 104809] Re: Freezes and data loss after upgrade from 2.6.20-12 to 2.6.20-13 and 2.6.20-13 (sata_via)

2007-04-10 Thread Andreas Gnau
I've just found out that this problem also occurs on 2.6.20-12. I'm writing
this using a feisty i386-install on the same HD (the filesystem of the
root-partition of my amd64-install is too damaged now i.e. it doesn't boot
anymore))
Such errors and freezes only occur if I access (mount from the i386-install)
the root partition of the amd64-feisty-install. Trying to install edubuntu
dapper on another newly created partition nearby the root-partition gave me
similiar error-msgs in the log.

I ran all kind of tests using Hitachi's Drive Fitness Test and it tells
me that everything is ok (I still don't believe it, as of now).

As this problem doesn't seem to be directly related to any kernel
upgrade, I'll close this bug.

I'll re-open it if the problem still exists after having bought a new
HD.

[Bug 99483] Re: Enabling spell check in openoffice causes the active desktop to switch

2007-04-10 Thread LordFarquaad
I have a similar bug here: if I put any OOo window to another desktop,
and then try to use that window, it pushes me to the initial desktop _of
that window_ ! This means that I can't change the window's desktop to
use it.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Have several virtual desktops enabled (4 side-by-side here)
2. Open a file with OpenOffice on any desktop
3. Put the opened window on another desktop (with ctrl+alt+shift+arrow for
example)
4. Try to use that window.

Notice that this bug only happens under Metacity, no problem with
beryl...

[Bug 105238] Re: Network manager should not restart wifi network if static config is in use

2007-04-10 Thread Christophe Avare
Hi again,

I just downloaded the updates.
Things gone bad after reboot: No network interface found!

It appears that a new restricted driver has been detected (Atheros HAL) in
addition to ipw3945.
I disabled this in the restricted driver manager and rebooted.

This time, the interface was up, but neither at boot time, nor the
network manager was able to connect to the network.

I removed the eth1 info in the /etc/network/interfaces config file and rebooted.
With the network manager gui, i then reconfigured the network and this time it
goes fine, even if the connection takes more than a minute to establish!

But the network manager applet has now disappeared from the task bar!

2007-04-10 Thread Jano
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: gdb

I installed new kdevelop 3.5.0 which is supposed to use gdb's new "machine"
interface.
So I opened one of my old projects and started debugging a bit. Several times I
got gdb crash but not regularly.
I noticed that I have .gdbinit in the project folder that may conflict with
kdevelop settings for gdb so I removed it and restarted kdevelop.
It seems to help but funny is that I can't get it crash again even with
.gdbinit present.

[Bug 23497] Re: i8042 unbind required for keyboard/mouse to be useable following suspend/resume & hibernate/resume cycle

2007-04-10 Thread maslokm
I have HP nx7400 ey508es and Feisty with unbind patch and suspend to ram
work, but after resume scroll on touchpad doesn't work, I need to go to
console using alt+F1 and back to X using F7, after that scroll work. It
would be nice if someone could tell me how can I get touchpad working
without going to console and back to X.

[Bug 61463] Re: Script that are using bash could be broken with the new symlink

2007-04-10 Thread mniess
I just stumbled upon this bug report and have to leave my opinion.
Especially on the server-side I havily rely on other peoples scripts
working correctly. I really appreciate dash on the desktop, but on the
server? I was thinking about moving my servers from Debian sarge to
Ubuntu 6.06 LTS since some mission-critical software now directly
supports it. But one just can't afford to use an OS on mission-critical
servers whose developers make decisions like these. Break stuff to make
a point. How can you not see that this drives Ubuntu away again from
professional environments. BTW: I am aware that LTS still uses bash as a
default.

[Bug 78252] Re: "Happy Gnome" theme shows a face browser

2007-04-10 Thread Sebastien Bacher
This upload fixes the bug:

 gdm (2.18.1-0ubuntu1) feisty; urgency=low
 .
   * New upstream version:
 - The GDM configuration option daemon/PidFile is now deprecated and
GDM now always uses /var/run/gdm.pid. The location can be configured
at compile time with the configure --with-pid-file option. This
   fixes bug #162849.
 - Now GDM supports Xephyr as the Nested Xserver command. GDM will use
Xephyr by default if it is on the system, and fallback to Xnest. Xephyr
   works much better than Xnest.
 - GDM application desktop files now use the correct categories, so the
menu choices should appear in the correct place in the menu.
 - Remove the userlist from the circles and happygnome themes since this
was causing problems for some users. This change will go into 2.20
where we are fixing the problem better by fixing gdmsetup to support
setting the configuration so that gdmlogin and gdmgreeter work the
same way with the Browser key.
 - Now gdmgreeter has an ATK label for the entry field.
 - Fix check so language combo style works. Fixes bug #423063.
 - Now "Configure GDM" menu choice is not available when accessibility is
turned on since running gdmsetup in this configuration causes GDM to
hang. Until the hanging bug is fixed, it's better to not allow the
user to get into this situation.
 - Now support XnestUnscaledFontPath configuration option, which allows GDM
to work with Xnest. Xorg 7.2 XGetFontPath function now returns fontpath
with the ":unscaled" prefix, which Xsun Xnest cannot handle. Setting
XnestUnscaledFontPath=false, will strip the ":unscaled" prefix from the
fontpath so that it can work.
 - GDM daemon no longer links with D-Bus if ConsoleKit is not enabled.
 - Translation updates
   * debian/patches/01_xconfigoptions.patch,
 debian/patches/02_default_config.patch,
 debian/patches/04_menu_changes.patch,
 debian/patches/10_noxkeepcrashing.patch:
 - updated
   * debian/patches/06_no_conffile_diff_due_to_comment_change.patch:
 - don't change comments to gdm.conf-custom to not get a conffile change
   on upgrade (Ubuntu: #92302)

[Bug 103048] Re: spacing between paragraphs is too big

2007-04-10 Thread Felix Braun
This is appearently a misconfiguration on my part. I've downloaded a
recent feisty image and cannot reproduce the bug when running the live-

On the other hand, on my hard-drive installation this bug persists even
after deleting $HOME/.openoffice.org2 *sigh*

I guess I'll try fixing this bug the Windows-way by re-installing my OS

[Bug 105259] Re: Not all scaling governors are supported

2007-04-10 Thread Maarten Lankhorst
Apparantly I can select the conservative and ondemand governors without
problems, so I don't think there is a problem with HAL for that.

Originally it 'crashed' around line 300 at:
self.systray.actionCollection().action(actualFreq).setChecked(True)

This was because my own policy 'conservative' was set but not supported
in guidance-power-manager, so it tried to find control 'conservative'
and failed, throwing an exception. Adding it with the patch solved the
problem. I also added ondemand.
