I have the same problem. I also reported it once (but it was marked as a duplicate of this bug), and got another bug this morning. This bug is hardly reproducible, as it happens - at least in my case - at kde startup. The only thing I can think of that might be the cause is: at those two startups I turned on my machine, let it boot, at than didn't log in at once at the kubuntu login screen. The computer sat there for about 30 minutes. I'll try to experiment with that a bit, and report back. I'm not certain, but I'm fairly confident that you'll find that libc in turn gets those entries through samba, in the case of windows shares. [Bug 115171] Partition Tool in Base Installer Refuses to work around a Partition Problem
Public bug reported: I recently upgraded from Edgy to Feisty on my Dell Inspiron Laptop. After a few reboots I encountered a filesysten problem where I was dropped to a prompt because e2fsck could not repair the filesystem problem. Running the fsck.ext3 utility manually didn't work, nor could I boot up the Ubuntu Feisty Install/Live CD and properly perform the repair. After numerous attempts to repair the damaged filesystem I finally decided to backup any files in the /home partition to a remote usb drive. I then wanted to reinstall Ubuntu Feisty. Since I liked my former partitioning arrangement I decided to keep what I had before and simply reformat each and reinstall over the top. When I got to the disk partitioner portion of the installation I tried to select the partition that had previously demonstrated problems. Each time it would start trying to write the partition information to disk and never return control to me. I then thought that something must be really screwed up with the disk and thought I would just have the partitioner do an automatic format of the hard drive. The partitioner did remove all the other partitions and created only an ext3 and swap partition. Again when it came time to format the partition I ran into problems. It refused to reformat. Now the laptop is no longer usable. After a couple of days I had a thought that perhaps all I needed was to wipe the disk clean and reformat with something like Knoppix. Once this reformatting was complete I would then go and re-install Feisty per my initial layout. Knoppix was able to get past the problem without an issues at all. I was allowed to reformat the disk any way I chose. After using Knoppix I was able to return to the Feisty installer and everything turned out fine. For the record I used Knoppix 5.1 CD which uses a mke2fs version 1.40-wip with a build date of 14-11-2006. Checking the version of the Feisty mke2fs I found that it to used version 1.40-WIP with EXT2FS library with a build date of 14-11-2006. Thank you for your bug report. It turns out that the errors you are experiencing are not bugs, they are errors in your understanding of how to use tar. The -f switch is intended to be followed _immediately_ with a filename. Following it with another option, such as --owner, or the -z option as part of an option string, is erroneous. The reason it works when not preceded with a dash, is that this is the "old-style" of specifying options in tar, in which all of the options were clumped together as one argument, and all parameters to those options were specified after that. tar should possibly emit an error when you are using --owner and --group, but not creating an archive: they are meant to be used during archive creation, and not extraction. They indicate what values to set the uid and gid of files in the archive. These values in the archive are usually ignored during extraction, unless you extract them as root, or specify the --same-owner option. In a subdirectory called includes, I have another .txt file and another .asp file. However, `ls` and `find` do not agree. Additional info: I have a pci USB2 / Firewire card (internal hub), because this PCs motherboard only has USB1 ports natively. The external hard drive that I mentioned earlier, was hooked up through this PCI card. I tried the same large transfer again using one of the motherboard USB1 ports and it has yet to freeze, with 38 hours remaining for the transfer to complete! The question is this: Is it the USB2 / Fireware PCI card that Ubuntu has a problem with OR the speed of the transfer? I have literally spent probably 20 hours trying to figure this problem out. Chatting on the IRC, chatting on the qunu, reinstalling packages, etc. I never thought to disable knetwork manager. I'm running ubuntu 7.04, and certain parts of networking for KDE apps fail when knetworkmanager is running. For instance: Konqueror usually works regardless. Amarok will not upload track play information to last.fm, kopete will not log on to MSN (but will log on to other networks), and Kmail will not connect to my IMAP server. When I stop knetwork manager, all these apps work fine. Thank you for your report. Ctrl+Space has been established as set-mark-command; most serious Emacs users would be upset to lose that combination. X Input Managers such as fcitx and SCIM only work with applications that have been specifically written to use an Input Manager. AFAICT, Emacs is not one of these, and probably won't be. However, Emacs does have it's own built-in input management system, which it has had for several years. For instance, you can type (I know it's ugly): C-x RET C-\, and it will prompt you to name an input method to use. Type "chinese" and hit tab, and you will be presented with a variety of IMs to choose from. Once you've chosen one, type M-x describe-mode, and it will give you instructions on how to use the current IM. Please see http://www.gnu.org/software/emacs/manual/emacs.html#Input-Methods for detailed information. Using the chinese-py method, I can type: woaini, and emacs gives me 我爱你. I'm sorry if you'd prefer to use the X Input Method you're accustomed to. However, this falls into the realm more of a feature request than an actual bug, and as such, and since it's not trivial (so doesn't qualify for Wishlist), I need to close this bug. I first experienced this problem when I upgraded to Feisty. In my case the system becomes totally unresponsive and requires a hard re-set. I was not using youtube, but just surfing sites. When I disable Flashplayer the system does not have a problem. To be fair to Feisty, I have tried Dreamlinux and Elive, all of the Debian Linux. They all give the same problem. If I start typing as the window is being drawn, keystrokes and autocompletion do appear in the To: field before it crashes. Application crash reporting thingy does not appear.
