In the Keyboard Shortcuts application, I tried to set new values for the volume buttons. However, the original values were the same as when I pressed on the volume keys. I then tried setting the volume using the speaker icon in the menu bar and I got the error message: The volume control did not find any elements and/or devices to control. [Bug 107322] [SOLVED] Re: firewire hard disk only detected at boot process
Hello again, This problem is solved compiling latest kernel from kernel.org (2.6.23rc2 today) and enabling in its configuration the new experimental firewire stack under drivers-- firewire 1394. This kernel gives you the chance to choose between this stack and the old, you can't enable both. The new module is called firewire_core, and is necesary to enable also the new spb2 and the other (i don't remember now its name...). In the latest Ubuntu kernel (2.6.22-9) this option is not enabled, please update it for next kernel!. If you use a configuration file (.config) the option is CONFIG_FIREWIRE=y. [Bug 131445] Re: Causes all gnome panels to disappear from screen right after drawing the panels when starting up desktop.
Got my Open GL back. And just deleting the non-free driver (1.0.7184) and its dependencies was all I needed to do. So it had nothing to do with me tweaking xorg.conf to use my wide screen in proper proportions. This may be a bug in gnome-panel too. I put another applet in the bottom panel as suggested above (120 high, max) with bottom placement. After restarting, the new bottom panel was at the top of the screen. May have something to do with marking the autohide box in panel properties. Applet was Dictionary, so I'm pretty sure this is a bug in gnome panel. Will report as such, but it's not serious. Since the handles were visible, I was able to open it and manipulate both the applet and the panel properties. The problem with Sherman's Aquarium is it doesn't apparently set limitations on finite dimensions in relation of the size of the screen it is on. When placed with a second applet in the bottom panel set to autohide and not expand, Sherman's Aqaurium worked until I exceeded the limits of my screen width (1360), but this time I got an error message that it unexpectedly quit and was able to continue without restarting the X server. So it has something to do with the applet not being able to determine its maximum width if the panel gets too wide (tall). I was trying to get a bigger applet window when this happened, with width to height ratio set at 20:1. I know that's unreasonable, but was just making it as big as possible. It's probably not worth fooling with. Only an experimenter like me who also knows how to recover from ridiculous errors will ever see this. -- Causes all gnome panels to disappear from screen right after drawing the panels when starting up desktop. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/131445 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 131658] [gutsy] totem browser-plugin makes firefox-granparadiso crash
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: totem Firefox Granparadiso (currently 3.0 alpha 7) crashes with missing symbols in totem plugin. Most of those could be fixed by adding -L/usr/lib/firefox -lxpcom (ie linking with Firefox 2 as usual) so at runtime, Firefox 3 also knows it has to load -lxpcom (but from its own /usr/lib/firefox-granparadiso following its own LD_LIBRARY_PATH). I have a working patch that does just that. After this patch, there's still one remaining missing symbol: nsMemory::Clone Problem is this symbol was in -lxpcom before, it is now only in libxpcomglue.a (which is in Firefox SDK that's now in firefox-granparadiso-dev in gutsy, but unfortunately not in firefox-dev). Instead of messing with compilation options, I thought it was better to not use that symbol, which is used only 3 times in the whole totem source tree. I'm made a second (working) patch. I hope you'll consider those patches so that firefox 3 users can also use totem plugin, like I do now. In the long term, it would be better to stop compiling against firefox- dev but use xulrunner sdk (that will be packaged hopefully soon by the MozillaTeam). patches follow. ** Affects: totem (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- [gutsy] totem browser-plugin makes firefox-granparadiso crash https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/131658 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 131634] Gutenprint doesn't work
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: cupsys-driver-gutenprint Info here: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=3166817#post3166817 Basically, Gutenprint doesn't work as of the latest big update. We can apparently set our printers up but jobs just clog up the queue and are unable to print. Gutenprint should work for my printer automatically as it has before (Canon BJC-250) as it says the gutenprint driver is compatible with it http://www.linuxprinting.org/show_driver.cgi?driver=gutenprintfromprinter =Canon-BJC-250 but since I'm filing the bug report it obviously does not work. There are no Canon drivers available! This is odd since my printer was automatically identified by the setup program. Also, this new update installed 2 'Printing' icons in SystemAdministration and a 'Default Printer' entry in SystemPreferences. How about renaming the 'Printing' entries to something more descriptive and then merging all 3 icons in the same section (or perhaps getting rid of 2 of them). ** Affects: gutenprint (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Gutenprint doesn't work https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/131634 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 131550] System wide setting disabling users to install addons and plugins
Public bug reported: Some applications allow users to install addons and plugins for applications like firefox, thunderbird, amarok. Many of these are also available as Ubuntu packages. To prevent interference between user installed addons or plugins and system wide installed version, Ubuntu should have an option to disable users installing addons and plugins for applications themselves. Also simply for preventing users installing any new functionality themselves in tightly controlled business environment, this is crucial. Several different implementations can be done. Applications can check somewhere in /etc wheter a user is allowed to install addons or plugins. Implementing functionality involves also changes to applications offering users to install addosn or plugins. The system can set the addon or plugin directory to readonly. Probably the latter is not preferred with new users etc. Changing this setting which shall be stored somewhere in /etc also required proper documentation and admin tools. Being able to manage addons and plugins centrally via apt-get and friends provides sysadmins the ability to have more control over the offered functionality. ** Affects: Ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- System wide setting disabling users to install addons and plugins https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/131550 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is the bug contact for Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
