[Bug 106621] Re: GNOME Trash doesn't show deleted files on fuse partitions (ecryptfs / encfs / Private / ntfs-3g)

2009-06-13 Thread Milan Knizek
FYI, KDE applications seem to work correctly when deleting files outside
of encrypted home directory but on the same disk partition (in opposite
to Nautilus and other Gnome apps as reported earlier by me
https://bugs.launchpad.net/gvfs/+bug/106621/comments/53 ) and move the
files to Trash (and these are then visible also in Gnome Trash). In
particular, digiKam and dolphin work fine.

This particular bug looks a bit different to what was reported
originally, should I open a new one?

[Bug 386888] [NEW] Cannot make multiple copies of CDs/DVDs

2009-06-13 Thread Jeff Long
Public bug reported:

Brasero is missing the basic functionality to make multiple copies of
the same CD or DVD. There is anoter bug related to this -- however,
it's from 2007.

I'm running Jaunty.

If it was fixed in a previous release, why isn't it fixed in this new,
supposedly better one?

Is there any way to add this basic feature to disc copying? Quite
frankly I'm stunned...

[Bug 384425] Re: Ubuntu 8.10 CD/DVD Creator won't burn a DVD

2009-06-13 Thread Nick
Well, I guess I debugged it for you.

I tried to burn a disc with GnomeBaker and the first try it returned the
error message:

genisoimage: Directories too deep for
'installers/freeciv-2.1.9/data/themes/gui-gtk-2.0/Freeciv/gtk-2.0/Toolbar' (7)
max is 6.
:-( write failed: Input/output error

So my directory structure was too deep. I deleted a subfolder I didn't
really need and burned a disc with GnomeBaker and a disc with Nautilus
and both seem to work fine now.

[Bug 386886] [NEW] digikam crashes on startup and also randomly

2009-06-13 Thread Ari Takku
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: digikam

Very, very often when I download images from my Canon digicam, the
digikam just crashes. Sometimes this happens when the camera is on, and
I try to access images from "KDE:s helper applet" by clicking "download
images with digikam". As a workaround, I usually start the digikam
manually, then when (or should I say if:) the digikam is running, I
switch the Canon on. When I select images, folder, and start to
download, it usually starts up ok, but at some point it crashes. This
crash is very random, and I cannot determine any logical behaviour for
this.

I just downloaded about 100 images from camera, and had about 5-10
crashes..

With Best Regards,
ari

PS. Sorry for a little bit messy English, I'm in a bit of a hurry here
so no time for spellchecking etc. :-)

2009-06-13 Thread Stas Zytkiewicz
This bug exists in Ubuntu 8.10 and in 9.04 and occurs when trying to disable

When stop the playing (visualization stopped) then you can disable
visualization and restart the playing.

IMO the visualization doesn't like to be interrupted.

Jeremy, I have tried what you have suggested and no file has appeared.
Everything seems to be working just fine for me. I am using two Wireless
USB Natural Keyboard/Mouse sets with vanilla Ubuntu Jauty 9.04 fully
patched. This is my test installation before i upgrade my main instance,
thus no tweaks, just vanilla install. The only things I did was to
modify /etc/gdm/gdm.conf

#0=Standard device=/dev/console
0=Standard0
1=Standard1

# Example of how to set up DISPLAY :1 to also use Standard.
#1=Standard

# If you wish to run the XDMCP chooser on the local display use the following
# line
#0=Chooser

# X Server Definitions
#
# Note: Is your X server not listening to TCP requests? Refer to the
# security/DisallowTCP setting!

[server-Standard0]
name=Standard server 0
command=/usr/X11R6/bin/X -br -audit 0 -nolisten tcp -layout seat0 -sharevts
-novtswitch -isolateDevice PCI:1:0:0
flexible=true

name=Standard server 1
command=/usr/X11R6/bin/X -br -audit 0 -nolisten tcp -layout seat1 -sharevts

and my xorg.conf (see attachment). Also I added the no-scroll and
removed splash booth parameters to solve the scrolling issue and proper
initialization of displays.

I'd like anyone of you to try playing Glest, wesnoth, or flightgear.

You'd be surprise how fast it goes into thermal shutdown. It's scary.

My laptop won't last 2 Minutes on if i run glest :'(

[Bug 375285] Re: jaunty constant overheating

2009-06-13 Thread ana
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 370173 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/370173

Hello - I have to say this sounds a bit odd but it's what I'm seeing so
here goes ... I had 8.04 running on a home-made machine built around an
Intel DG965WH (Core2Duo) motherboard. It was ok but I had some issues
with browsing so thought I'd try an upgrade to see if it resolved them
(as an aside - it looks as though it has!).

As its a homemade box, I thought it a good idea to monitor temperature
so have set up the sensors-applet gadget in my desktop panel, monitoring
the CPUs and two of my discs.

So I upgraded initially to 8.10 and straightaway noticed that the CPU
temperatures were much higher than I was used to seeing: previously they
had been in the 40s or occasionally 50s when pushed. Now they were going
up into the 60s and 70s. Carrying on with the upgrade into 9.04 this has
continued: if I let it alone, the temperature on both cores is going
well into the 70s, which is not sustainable, I think.

CPU usage is 100% on both cores: if I throttle it back by stopping
tracker-indexer then the temperature drops back to around 50.

This is not an ambient temperature problem - the disc temperatures are
behaving as before, around 40.

What seems really odd is that I have regularly pushed the CPUs to 100%
before - I often use this box for processing video files - and have
never seen the temp go over 70. So what's going on?

1 - as a short term fix, what's the easiest way to stop tracker-indexer
from running up each time I start?

2 - is it possible that a change in the OS has affected the way that
fans for example are being controlled?

3 - is it possible that the temperature readings are not correct?

Any clues much appreciated.

THX.

2009-06-13 Thread bastafidli
The VPablos fix doesn't work for me on Ubuntu Jaunty 9.04, because it disables
both of my USB mice multiseat setup. What I had to do for my Fujitsu 4120c is
to add file
/etc/udev/rules.d/45-libsane.rules
with the following content

# Fujitsu fi-4120C
SYSFS{idVendor}=="04c5", SYSFS{idProduct}=="1041", MODE="664", GROUP="scanner"

I also had to add group scanner

sudo addgroup scanner

and add myself and other users which should have access to the scanner
to this group

sudo adduser some_username scanner

After reboot scanning works beautifully. This rule came from
http://forum.ubuntu-fr.org/viewtopic.php?pid=2707917
but the venfor and product can by discovered simply by running

[Bug 370173] Re: Ubuntu 9.04 laptop overheat and shutdown

2009-06-13 Thread ana
So what is to do?

Have you tried playing Glest? or Wesnoth?

Don't speak about flightgear.

I own a HP dv6000, the unly way I can run those programs is using
"cpulimit"

sudo apt-get install cpulimit

But framerate goes to hell, This has never happened before, not since Edgy...

This is happening to a huge percentage of laptops rendering them
unusable for intensive tasks... counting of course flash as "intensive"

this is a MAJOR issue

[Bug 386880] [NEW] Queued statuses from pidgin-microblog using CPU/RAM and freezing pidgin

Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: notify-osd

After returning to my laptop and taking it out of screensaver I noted
that Pidgin was frozen. It was using all of one core and 1GB of RAM.

before it started all over again.

It's a year later and this bug is still here. I'm using Intrepid Ibex (8.10),
updated as of last week. I love this game and wish it was playable.
If the game window could just be made resizable like almost all other windows
are, this would be a non-issue.
Thanks.

[Bug 56444] Re: Easy double-sided printing

2009-06-13 Thread Ian Clark
Just got a CUPS "update" a couple days ago via Ubuntu updates. When I
went to print with my Samsung ML-1430 today, I found that the interface
is changed in both Abiword and OOO, and I can no longer specify
(manually) to print odds and then evens (to print both sides). Now
there is a "range" feature which doesn't even allow me to type in the
number of the page, but for a five-page document I'd have to click the
first field's up arrow four times from one to five just to get a "five
to five" range, to simple print the fifth page. However made this
change needs his head examined.

In Abiword, there is a choice I can check called "selection", but
there's nothing after it that I can specify. Under OOO, the "selection"
choice is grayed out.

Why is it that as I use Ubuntu (starting from 7.10), the features get
less and less? Why should I be able to print more conveniently in 2006
than in 2009?

Re: [Bug 332945] Re: [Jaunty] Update Notifier icon would provide useful status information

2009-06-13 Thread bdoe
Regarding automatic updates: I'm with Martin on this one; I believe it
should be turned on by default. If you are on a pay-per-use Internet
plan or a plan that places a cap on your usage, you can simply go in and
turn off the automatic updates. After all, if Canonical is so concerned
about the security of its users' installations that it feels the
situation warrants interrupting the user with uncommanded popups, then
having the system automatically update itself without user intervention
should be right up its alley.

I'm curious to know how update manager displays itself if the system
needs to be rebooted after an update, and the user has already closed
the window...

Regarding forking Ubuntu: Does anyone know if Mint has/will have this
"improvement"?

Subject: [Bug 332945] Re: [Jaunty] Update Notifier icon would provide
useful status information
Date: Sun, 14 Jun 2009 00:05:56 -

@Martin:
No - there are two problems with automatic [anything]:
1. I may be using the application that is being upgraded - and may cause it to
crash / misbehave.
2. An automatic download at the wrong time might be very costly for the user.
For example on my 3G connection it costs me the same to download the first 3GB
of data in a month and to download every 60MB after that. That means any
program starting an update at a random time, may end up costing me a lot of
real money (without a warning). An openoffice update at a wrong time could
really hit me.

@Vincenzo Ciancia:
"... the popup is not going away unless you make your own fork of ubuntu."
Pidgin was forked for less annoying changes... With ubuntu it's even easier - a
PPA with a "fixed" package is enough. If the option of going back to no-popup
version is disabled in Karmic, I'm definitely making such package - I still
consider the popup behaviour in whatever form to be broken / a bug.

2009-06-13 Thread Jonathan Marsden
The mysql apparmor profiles work fine for me here (Ubuntu Jaunty 9.04).

Please describe what you mean by the profiles being "bogus" in
considerably more depth. Please be constructive -- suggest imrpovements
to them if you feel they are needed.

If you have chosen to manually move MySQL database files into a non-standard
location,
you will need to adjust your apparmor profiles to reflect that non-standard
change.

Please note that removing /etc/init.d/apparmor is *not* in any sense a
way to "fix this properly" and reduces overall system security.

[Bug 318249] Re: does not handle updated file images with changed md5sums

2009-06-13 Thread Walter_Wittel
This problem (bad checksum after downloading a newer version of the same
file with a different checksum) did not happen upgrading a Karmic Alpha
2 file over the Alpha 1 version (Jaunty and Transmission 1.51). I'll
assume it still exists in 8.10 but have moved on. The checksum of the
overwritten file was fine after the download finished. Thanks for the
fix!

I did experience a problem where, after adding the streams and deleting
the old entries in the Transmission GUI (indicated appropriately in red
with a warning message), I never connected to any peers. I tried exiting
and restarting Transmission from gnome with no luck and found I had to
kill the process (no UI) before restarting, at which time everything
worked as expected. I'll try this scenario again for my Alpha 3
downloads and file a separate bug if it repros (unless you can confirm
this as a problem not).

[Bug 386870] [NEW] sane doesn't recognise Brother MFC215c

2009-06-13 Thread wordsmyth
Public bug reported:

My Brother MFC215c works fine as a printer, but not as a scanner. Which
is frustrating. Sane cannot find it. Is there a simple solution for
this, or must I wade through a lot of code & etc? Easier for me to keep
Windows in dual-boot and scan from there, but I'd like to migrate
completely from Windows. I'm a newbie, using Jaunty (had same problem
with Intrepid) and I've downloaded the appropriate driver and scan tool
from the Brother website but still no go. Any suggestions?

[Bug 386868] [NEW] xchat-gnome doesn't remember maximised state

2009-06-13 Thread Hew McLachlan
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xchat-gnome

Every time I start xchat-gnome, it is not maximised, even though I
maximise the window every time I start the application. While it appears
as a window that fills the whole screen, it is still in the windowed
state, and not properly maximised.

Steps to reproduce:
1. Start xchat-gnome.
2. Maximise the window.
3. Close xchat-gnome.
4. Start xchat-gnome.

What should happen:
xchat-gnome should be maximised.

What actually happens:
xchat-gnome is in the windowed state, not maximised.

[Bug 369375] Re: Jaunty: very slow video playback using xv with proprietary Radeon HD 2400 driver

2009-06-13 Thread Santiago
Recently i installed Jaunty (amd64) on HP 6735s. Turion 64 X2 (2.1 GHz),
3 GB RAM, ATI Radeon HD 3200 (256 MB)... and compiz works great, but
when i try to watch a video in totem with subtitles, the video is slow
and i get few FPS and CPU usage is very high. Cube rotation and other
stuff when playing video in totem is very slow and i get like 1 or two
frames of the rotation animation... this is ugly... I have ATI
restricted drivers installed with de hardware drivers app...

I can watch videos switching to metacity... but the overall window
moving and handle is slow too... like the window leaves echoes in
background windows when moving...

i think this is a very important bug... or the driver is not good at
all.

thanks,

2009-06-13 Thread Mary Gardiner
Final comment: if you have any extra files around in your homedir that
you want moved but which f-spot's database doesn't know about (in my
case .ufraw files) you will have to move them by hand: the script will
abort if you ask it to do something with a file f-spot has no record of.

[Bug 354264] Re: Imports all photos to the root of the home directory

2009-06-13 Thread Mary Gardiner
I have a Python script that fixes up the mess. It shouldn't have any
dependencies other than Python itself. I've only tested with Python 2.6,
but I don't know of any reason 2.5 wouldn't work (before 2.5 the sqlite3
module won't be available).

Features:

1. Moves files to [target-dir]//MM/DD for the date of the photograph
itself, as is f-spot's current correct behaviour, creating these
directories where necessary

2. Target dir need not be ~/Photos but can be arbitrary

3. Updates the photos and photo_versions tables in the f-spot database
correctly (as far as I can tell anyway) both for original versions and
modified versions.

Usage: fix-fspot.py [correct target directory] [files...]

Example usage:

python fix-fspot.py ~/Photos ~/img_0001.jpg ~/img_0002.jpg

Move ~/img_0001.jpg and ~/img_0002.jpg to the correct location under
~/Photos and updates the f-spot database appropriately.

In case of corruption, your original database will be copied to
~/.gnome2/f-spot/photos.db-[TIMESTAMP] each time this runs

My run of this was:

python fix-fspot.py ~/Photos ~/*.{cr2,jpg}

but of course you will want to construct your own command line.

The problem is that you are using the server variant of the x86 kernel
which has PAE enabled (CONFIG_HIGHMEM64G=y), and GEM doesn't support PAE
quite yet. I see you only have 2GB of ram, you may want to consider
switching to -generic instead altough I have seen PAE support patches
that shouldn't be too far off if you want to stick with it and not use

[Bug 386793] Re: When using the trayicons of GTK-applications on KDE, the icon background is corrupted if any popup menu/box is drawn.

2009-06-13 Thread Michael Marley
The bug happens for all GTK trayicons in KDE, so this is apparently a
KDE bug.

** Summary changed:

- When using nm-applet on KDE, icon background corruption results if any popup

+ When using the trayicons of GTK-applications on KDE, the icon background is
corrupted if any popup menu/box is drawn.

** Description changed:

- I am using nm-applet on Kubuntu Karmic (KDE 4.3beta2) as a workaround
- for the current numerous problems of plasma-widget-network-manager. It
- works great, however there is a graphical bug. After the nm-applet icon
- has produced any sort of popup box (a menu, tooltip, etc) the background
- of the icon is not redrawn correctly, with the background of the icon
+ If I use any GTK application with a trayicon, after the that icon has
+ produced any sort of popup box (a menu, tooltip, etc) the background of
+ the icon is not redrawn correctly, with the background of the icon
instead becoming whatever was drawn on top of it. It remains like this
- until it is restarted.
+ until either the program in question or Plasma itself is restarted. The
+ corruption only occurs for the one icon, not for any others that may be
+ in the tray (irregardless of whether they use the old- or new-style KDE
+ systray spec.)

[Bug 274780] Re: [intrepid] RT61pci no wireless on resume from suspend with 2.6.27-4

2009-06-13 Thread Aaron Clark
I had same issue with recent install of Jaunty 64bit

Original kernel was 2-6-28-11 - same with 2-6-28-13

ASUS P5Q-E - Intel Q9400 Quad Core

Rosewill RNX-G300EX PCI card using rt61pci module

Using WiCd for a network manager

In my case not only was I not able to connect to network after resume
from suspend but USB sticks would not mount even though they showed up
in results of lsusb

Also Shutdown/Restart would hang after showing the splash screen -
responding to alt+sysreq keystrokes but never shutting down.

Other weird glitches & hangs too numerous to mention unless someone
really wants to know

I tried the SUSPEND_MODULES solution and everything seems to be working
as expected now.

[Bug 385703] Re: nv, autodetection fails because of missing PCI-IDs, in nv.ids, for a large number of supported cards in Jaunty

2009-06-13 Thread Robert Hooker
There's a slight problem with this that I had a discussion with the -nv
maintainer about while attempting to submit the id's upstream.
01_gen_pci_ids.diff which creates the nv.ids only adds the things
explicitly defined in the tables in src/nv_driver.c but the AGP cards
report a pci id of the AGP-PCIe bridge chip initially. The driver then
figures out what chip it actually is behind the bridge (if the nv driver
is actually loaded) via NVGetPCIXpressChip in the code, but when nv.ids
exists that internal detection logic is lost and xserver only loads the
nv driver automatically for cards that exist in nv.ids. In jaunty you
then get a fall back to vesa because of a patch in xserver to make vesa
the default when no driver can load. In karmic currently you get a
failsafe X boot because the fallback to vesa patch was dropped. If nv is
explicitly defined for the device in xorg.conf it will work fine though
in karmic as long as the driver supports your actual card (which it will
for the AGP variants for the above mentioned reason).

The current method being used to add these cards is to add them to the
tables in ubuntu's patches (102_geforce_7300_gt.patch and
104_geforce_6600gt_9100mg.patch). The maintainer suggested that was a
bad idea in this specific case because the cards are already defined
which could cause problems, and the problem instead is the detection
logic brought in from 01_gen_pci_ids.diff.

I've attached a patch that adds support for every AGP-PCIe bridge chip I
could find in a manner that will only permit the id's to be included in
the nv.ids generation and not interfere with any actual card detections
as suggested by the driver maintainer. Adding them behind a #if 0/#endif
makes sure they are never actually used for anything, but will get
included by the nv.ids generation so that the server will pick the -nv
driver and let it do its detection work.

There is still the small problem of the nv.ids generation routine not
accounting for the catchall cases set up so that it will work for newer
chips in series that haven't been explicitly added to the tables
though.. For example, look around lines 713 and 738 here-

http://cgit.freedesktop.org/xorg/driver/xf86-video-
nv/tree/src/nv_driver.c?id=36eb96854b34bee6b65a2b2d4df25f53b47194e4

That will expand each supported chip range from 10DE0390 through
10DE039F for instance to account for unreleased future cards or things
not explicitly defined in the tables..The pci id generation routine
ignores all of that though so it would probably be a good idea to expand
each one hidden behind the #if 0/#endif from my patch so
01_gen_pci_ids.diff will actually create id's for them for better
support on older releases. I've submitted the patch upstream to the
maintainer but since it is a debian/ubuntu specific thing and nv.ids
generation is going the way of the dodo now (debian already dropped it)
I'm not sure its relevant there.

[Bug 353126] Re: Compiz / vnc screen refresh with nvidia-restricted driver/VirtualBox/ATI fglrx driver

2009-06-13 Thread chronographer
Just wanted to add another instance of this issue. I like to remotely
access my desktop, which I use as a desktop, from my laptop. I don't
want a hack where compiz is disabled which vnc connections is made. I
used intrepid fine remotely with desktop effects still enabled, even
over my narrow 256kbs upload. Since this worked fine in Intrepid, please
fix it for Jaunty (and Karmic).

Thanks,

Alex
