While trying to launch the run dialog by pressing Alt+F2 the wireless
was turned off, I pressed the same combination to turn it back on and
the crash occurred. I am currently using 10.04 Alpha 3 and the machine
was updated today.

[Bug 534313] [NEW] Kernel 2.6.31-19-generic Fails to boot with Kernel panic - not syncing: Out of memory and not killable.

2010-03-08 Thread adante
Public bug reported:

After upgrading from 9.04 to 9.10 in december 2009 my system rebooted with this
error. I am still able to use the
2.6.28-17-generic kernel.

Recently I inserted the 9.10 amd64 livecd and attempted to boot and
received the same error.

The error message reads: Kernel panic - not syncing: Out of memory and
no killable processes.

It occurs on boot extremely early in the boot process (approx 6 seconds
in).

This machine was previously running 9.04 without problems.

It has been reported here:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1364792
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1423047

edit to add: Please note that the attached information diagnostics
pertain to the system as booting with the 2.6.28-17-generic kernel as I
cannot boot 2.6.31.

[Bug 533298] Re: GDM wont load login

Sebastien, what do you see here that makes you think this is a duplicate
of bug #532047? No one else has reported failures loading the gdm
greeter, and I don't see how this symptom could be caused by plymouth.

[Bug 530178] Re: [MIR] pinyin-database

2010-03-08 Thread Colin Watson
Furthermore ibus-pinyin-db-open-phrase depends on a version of pinyin-
database that's newer than that in lucid, and for that matter newer than
that in Debian unstable. I wonder if the pinyin-database maintainer had
intended to upload a newer version that ships the database in unpacked
form, but forgot? I asked him on IRC.

[Bug 503227] Re: Erlang sudoku example fails to start

2010-03-08 Thread Andrey Pampukha
If you install all the dependencies of the Erlang, just running
sudo aptitude install libwxgtk2.8-dev libgl1-mesa-dev libglu1-mesa-dev libpng3
and then build Erlang/OTP from the source, it will work for you.

But standard Erlang packages in Ubuntu won't run any application with
WxWidgets GUI...

the service rhythmbox uses to download covers blocked rhythmbox from
using it now because it was causing too much request on the servers, do
you get the issue with local covers too or only where covers should be
fetched from internet?

the second (not the first upon startup of Evolution) synchronisation with

[Bug 533531] Re: gvfs-backends package should be a dependency of gvfs not only recommended

2010-03-08 Thread Davide Lasagna
But at least, when the user tries to connect to a server, it should be
pointed to him that he can install this package to have much more
functionality. Just a question: is this package in the default lucid
iso? If yes why it has been removed during my upgrade from karmic? From
the user point of view it seems a regression, because some functionality
available in karmic was lost on lucid. That's why I reported this as a
bug.

Cheers,

Davide

[Bug 497345] Re: gs extremely slow to print more 1 page

2010-03-08 Thread Till Kamppeter
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 419143 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/419143

I can reproduce this bug already without CUPS, by opening your PDF file,
printing it into a PDF file (evince re-renders the file instead of
simply passing it through, blowing it up from 97K to 1300K) and then
letting Ghostscript render it with the command line you have posted
here:

cat ST.00052-evince.pdf | time gs -dFirstPage=1 -q -dBATCH
-dPARANOIDSAFER -dQUIET -dNOPAUSE -sDEVICE=ijs -sIjsServer=hpijs
-dDEVICEWIDTHPOINTS=595 -dDEVICEHEIGHTPOINTS=842 -sDeviceManufacturer
=HEWLETT-PACKARD -sDeviceModel='hp LaserJet 1010' -dDuplex=false -r600
-sIjsParams=Quality:Quality=0,Quality:ColorMode=0,Quality:MediaType=0,Quality:PenSet=0,PS:MediaPosition=7
-dIjsUseOutputFD -sOutputFile=- -_ out.pxl

This takes more than 9 minutes on my laptop, whereas feeding your
original file directly into Ghostscript does the job in less than a
second.

This is a known problem of Cairo (the rendering engine used by evince)
and not a Ghostscript problem. See bug 419143.

yurchor,

bug 529483 has now been fixed, but I think now it is not related. I
cannot quite understand the problem, could you perhaps expand a bit more
on this?

I see that
https://translations.launchpad.net/ubuntu/lucid/+source/konversation/+pots/konversation/uk/+translate?batch=10show=allsearch=TreeSplitterSizes
shows the TreeSplitterSizes string, but that's the only thing I can
see. You are talking of some 140 additional messages from the Ubuntu in
comparison with upstream. Could you point us to one of these messages,
so that we can compare the Launchpad template with the upstream one?

The scripts used to generate the konversation templates should, if I'm
not mistaken, the same ones used upstream.

2010-03-08 Thread David Planella
A quick inspection at the templates shows that they are ok now, thus
marking it as Fix Released for ubuntu-translations as well.

If any strings became untranslated because of this, we might just have
to wait for the next Lucid language pack to be generated to see the fix.

[Bug 450260] Re: grub-probe fails with btrfs root (and ext3 /boot)

2010-03-08 Thread Iain Bucław
Well since everyone seems pretty much fixed on the idea that static
GRUB_DEVICE and GRUB_DEVICE_UUID entries are ok, just have two posing
questions.

How do you suppose we get those entries there in the first place?
What would we do in the event that a UUID changes (if unlikely, I know :) ?

Or are we just going to leave that up to the distribution/user to figure
out, afterall btrfs is still not production ready, and it is still
technically the fault of btrfs not exporting it's internal relationships
between physical and virtual devices that we have this problem in the
first place.

For the time being, however, I have my eyes pinned here:
http://article.gmane.org/gmane.comp.file-systems.btrfs/2856
This seems like a sound idea, but may chime in saying I would still rather
LVM-style /dev/mapper locations.

Regards
Iain

The package is installed by default. Packages can sometimes end up being
removed in a development release due to transitional states in the main
archive or the mirror you are using. Apt does tell you when a package is
going to be removed though, and people testing the development release
should be aware of this

i agree, that in the long run we might need something better; we can
carry that forward upstream when pushing our patch there though. For now
in ubuntu the patch jamie proposed seems fine.

[Bug 455485] Re: Gtick doesn't work with Karmic at all (pulseaudio)

2010-03-08 Thread Stéphane List
gtick still doesn't work for me, and it will need a big work to make it
compatible with pulseaudio.

So, I've wrote a little metronome compatible with pulseaudio.
It's not accurate like gtick, and especially if the PC is loaded.

Choose your language at the bottom of the page :

[Bug 220005] Re: xrdp package doesn't work out of box

2010-03-08 Thread ZioNemo
It does not work for me in 9.4 (jaunty).
I can connect, but:

If I chose sesman-Xvnc (default) it connects, but the screen remains X-standard
background (BW checkerboard) and the two panels (gnome top and bottom) keep
flashing. no way to use it.
/var/log/sesman.log says: [20100308-12:10:29] [INFO ] scp thread on sck 5
started successfully which looks good.

If I chose sesman-X11rdp I get the (very informative!) some problem message
/var/log/sesman.log says: [20100308-12:16:24] [INFO ] scp thread on sck 5
started successfully same as above.

I don't have the option to upgrade to karmic.
Any chance to get a backport of the fix?

Your Xorg.0.log indicates that you've got the binary nvidia drivers
installed. As only one driver can bind to the graphics card, installing
the nvidia binary drivers will disable nouveau.

Does nouveau work if you disable the restricted nvidia drivers in
 System→Administration→Hardware Drivers and reboot?

I do not have system-Administration-Hardware driver in my menu, which
command I have to issue, also if nouveau conflict with nvidia it should
be stated somewhere ... I have to remove nvidia-current and all nvidia
packages ?

[Bug 532633] Re: [light-theme] please centre window title and order window controls

2010-03-08 Thread Yann
OK, setting back to confirmed... maybe this is the more appropriate as
triaged is clearly inappropriate: Buttons artwork is so more symetric,
so changing gconf makes this look very bad.

So the solution may be to change buttons to make them symetric again for
users being able to change default behaviour withous artifact... or
making a second theme that is coherent, that could be chosen at install.

Maybe Canonical could uses this to make stats on users choice: Is users
choose left (I doubt!), maybe this could become the default in future
releases. But let users decide!

[Bug 528489] Re: Send file doesn't work

2010-03-08 Thread Sebastien Bacher
you might want to consider being respectful and reading the code of
conduct on http://www.ubuntu.com/community/conduct, you are dealing with
mostly volunteers who do work for free there, calling other people or
they work retarded, useless and incapable is not a way to open a
constructive dialog with anybody or to be listened. empathy has a
schedule aligned on GNOME and Ubuntu, gets lot of bug fixes in every
update, has video chat working on jabber and msn out of the box and
better integration in the desktop too (allow sharing your desktop over
vnc with your contacts in one click for example). You are free to use
pidgin if you want though there is no reason to insult other people this
way

[Bug 427890] Re: o2 micro memory card reader sdhci problem

So it's been a few months since the last post. Any solutions?
Currently i'm hesitating complete ( cold turkey ;) ) switch just because of
this thing. The rest of my hardware is very well supported, but this makes the
card reader i use very often completely useless.

I believe many Acer and other laptops use this kind of card readers (O2
