[Bug 744293] Re: Infinite loop in helper LVM script for DRBD 8 in Lucid
Andres, This is a real pain for those of us who would like to ensure that we don't lose data due to a failure during re-sync. If we don't take a snapshot prior to a re-sync of the secondary and there was a failure it could be catastrophic. I'm pretty sure Lars put out a patch which is mentioned in the original bug report. I realize getting this into 10.04 can be a long process. Any chance in the mean time you would be willing to put up a patched version in the HA PPA? I could patch it myself however if you put it up at least it would be there for those that don't know how or don't want to modify their packages outside of apt. [Bug 777868] [NEW] Postfix smtp can no longer resolve localhost - regression from maverick.
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: postfix I have a particular Postfix relay configuration where I need to forward SMTP to an SSH tunnel, and configure a relayhost_maps (sender_dependent actually) as [localhost]:12345. This worked in maverick, but fails in natty. The new Postfix 2.8 release strips RES_DEFNAMES from _res.options (the resolver flags) by default, which triggers a resolver bug reported separately as Launchpad Bug #777855. Note that this is not a Postfix bug, but a bug in eglibc - I am filing this as Postfix bug to document the issue and for possible workarounds should an eglibc resolution not be viable. A possible workaround, but dangerous, is to tweak Postfix's resolver flags as in http://marc.info/?l=postfix-usersm=130459442830727w=2 by setting smtp_dns_resolver_options=res_defnames, but that causes false resolver results for some. Please see the entire thread at http://marc.info/?t=13045616412r=1w=2 for a discussion. [Bug 744293] Re: Infinite loop in helper LVM script for DRBD 8 in Lucid
** Description changed: - The script /usr/lib/drbd/snapshot-resync-target-lvm.sh shipped with drbd v8.3.7 in Lucid fails to read its command line options and falls into an infinite loop. This bug is not in present in natty, but I humbly request an SRU to Lucid. This script can be called by DRBD to create an LVM snapshot of a resource before it starts resyncing (thus becoming inconsistent). This script is present (though commented out) in the default drbd configuration file /etc/drbd.d/global_common.conf . This bug can result in drbd silently failing to resync an outdated resource. [Bug 280421] Re: ethtool not available in post-ifup script
** Description changed: + === + SRU Justification: + + 1. Impact: users who have /usr on a separate, remote, slow filesystem, may find that ethtool does not exist when ethtool's ifup.d rules fire. + 2. How bug was addressed: ethtool was moved from /usr/sbin to /sbin + 3. Minimal patch: http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~ubuntu-branches/ubuntu/maverick/ethtool/maverick/revision/12 + 4. To reproduce: put /usr on a slow (i.e. remote NFS mounted) filesystem, install ethtool on a system using it. + 5. Regression potential: This fix has been applied in maverick and natty with no ill effects. If users have custom scripts calling /usr/sbin/ethtool by its full path, those might now fail since we do not provide an automatic link. + + === + Binary package hint: ethtool PROBLEM: I am running Ubuntu 8.04 in a Xen DomU. To fix network performance issues, the line post-up /usr/sbin/ethtool -K eth0 tx off is needed for the virtual ethernet device within the /etc/network/intefaces file. Usually this works fine, however if /usr is stored on its own partition this command fails, as /usr is not yet mounted when udev executes ifup for the ethernet device. Unfortunately this causes some very strange errors like /etc/init.d/networking stop to fail bacause the eth0 interface is brought up but not correctly registered in the state file. The only workaround at the moment is to disable the ifup / ifdown hooks in /etc/udev/rules.d/85-ifupdown.rules. PROPOSED SOLUTION: The best solution would be moving /usr/sbin/ethtool to /sbin/ethtool so that it is available on startup before /usr has been mounted. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to ethtool in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/280421 Title: ethtool not available in post-ifup script -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 777868] Re: Postfix smtp can no longer resolve localhost - regression from maverick.
Additional remark: Bug #764096 is about an incomplete chroot setup caused by the start script. To differentially diagnose this, I had ruled a broken chroot setup out in my testing by forcing smtp(8) outside the chroot per master.cf. This bug is fundamentally a resolver bug, exhibited through a change in Postfix's default policy which flags to pass to/strip from res_search(). Arguably I should be using 127.0.0.1 or ::1 instead of localhost (suggested by Victor Duchovni on postfix-users) to skip the DNS indirection, but localhost has been working well since Ubuntu 9.10 or so, so I'd taken the time to notify Ubuntu in addition to the upstream. Public bug reported: Binary package hint: unity The run_unity function in /usr/bin/unity tries to do: subprocess.Popen([killall, unity-panel-service]) If there are other users logged into the system, this spews “Operation not permitted” errors (unless you’re logging in as root, in which case it will probably actually kill every user’s panel process!). The killall should at least be limited by username, and ideally by session as well. By the way, it’s rather sloppy that wait() isn’t called on that subprocess object; that results in a zombie killall process being leaked: jarthur 25886 25884 0 01:42 ?00:00:00 [killall] defunct ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 11.10 Package: unity 3.8.12-0ubuntu1 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 2.6.39-0.5-generic 2.6.39-rc5 Uname: Linux 2.6.39-0-generic x86_64 NonfreeKernelModules: openafs Architecture: amd64 CompizPlugins: [core, bailer, detection, composite, opengl, decor, mousepoll, vpswitch, regex, animation, snap, expo, move, compiztoolbox, place, grid, imgpng, gnomecompat, wall, ezoom, workarounds, staticswitcher, resize, fade, unitymtgrabhandles, scale, session, unityshell] Date: Thu May 5 01:47:46 2011 EcryptfsInUse: Yes InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 11.04 Natty Narwhal - Alpha amd64 (20101202) ProcEnviron: LANGUAGE=en_US:en PATH=(custom, user) LANG=en_US.utf8 SHELL=/bin/bash SourcePackage: unity UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install) ** Affects: unity (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: amd64 apport-bug oneiric running-unity -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/777594 Title: unity tries to kill all unity-panel-service processes on startup (even other users’) -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 774978] Re: xserver seg'd [945GM]
I am having the same trouble with an i915. My system is stock everything (upgraded from maverick to natty) except running the PAE kernel and the ubuntu classic gdm session. A freeze sometimes occurs within about five minutes of booting up and logging in, but doesn't happen at all if the session survives longer than that, as it usually does. I don't use Firefox, so it's not caused only by that. A freeze can happen randomly even when just popping up any menu. Then it restarts the session using tty8 and doesn't crash again.
