[Bug 966189] Re: Launcher tooltip says "Waiting to install" when application is actually installing

2012-07-11 Thread kchris
I specifically created this account to report the same error. This is very
annoying and confusing. I would also recommend the option of having the
launcher on the bottom as well. I cannot believe launcher cannot bemoved
around.
Thank you

[Bug 914746] Re: cacti SNMP verbose query PHP error

2012-07-11 Thread Paul Gevers
The story continues. I had a look at my patch again and saw a real big
flaw: !sizeof should be replaced by empty, not by !empty. The bug goes
away for other reasons than the intended one. I found out now by being
even more careful that indeed the source of the regression is
CVE-2010-1645.patch (at least in the lucid one). Disclaimer: I haven't
checked what exactly happened without that patch, but the ADDITIONAL
source that causes this bug is in that patch.

Tonight I hope I will create a proper debdiff (still pretty simple) for
this bug. I will check again if I can figure out if my statement about
natty and oneiric is still valid.

Hmm .. I had another look at the machine:

$ mount
...
rpc_pipefs on /run/rpc_pipefs type rpc_pipefs (rw)
rpc_pipefs on /var/lib/nfs/rpc_pipefs type rpc_pipefs (rw)

It appears /var/lib/nfs/rpc_pipefs was a mount point indeed.

2012-07-11 Thread Timo Aaltonen
No no no no, I'm not letting you hijack this bug as well ;)

Freeze bugs look the same, since the machine just freezes. It _does_
_not_ mean they all have the same cause. I'm tired of repeating that.

Sean, -27 probably had some other upstream change for your hw that fixed
things (nouveau?). Note that it includes a couple of upstream point
releases with dozens of changes..

Sandy bridge owners should just open a bug of their own.

[Bug 1023732] Re: Ubuntu upgrade from 10.04 to 10.10 fail

2012-07-11 Thread Manfred Hampl
This might be a duplicate of bug #721306

If the package xserver-xorg-video-nouveau is installed, in several cases
the 10.04 to 10.10 upgrade fails with the error message

"Could not determine the upgrade
An unresolvable problem occurred while calculating the upgrade:
E:Error, pkgProblemResolver::Resolve generated breaks, this may be caused by
held packages.
This can be caused by:
* Upgrading to a pre-release version of Ubuntu
* Running the current pre-release version of Ubuntu
* Unofficial software packages not provided by Ubuntu"

Several persons have reported that after removal of that package the
upgrade was successful.

Try this workaround: Open a terminal and enter the command:

sudo apt-get remove xserver-xorg-video-nouveau (which most probably will
also remove xserver-xorg-video-all)

and then try the upgrade again.

++

If xserver-xorg-video-nouveau blocks the upgrade from 10.04 to 10.10, it
might as well block the LTS upgrade 10.04 to 12.04 with the consequence,
that not (two years later) there might be a higher number of such bug
reports again!

[Bug 806761] Re: Feature Request: Upstart scripts for nslcd

2012-07-11 Thread Caleb Callaway
The odd behavior turned out to be a race condition between the nslcd and
nslcd-k5start scripts: per the Upstart docs
(http://upstart.ubuntu.com/cookbook/#expect), Upstart assumes the job
has started after the first PID that is generated in the script, unless
an expect stanza is present. So, Upstart believes the nslcd-k5start job
has started as soon as the calls to sed/hostname/etc are made and starts
the nslcd job, which fails because it can't find the credentials cache
it needs.

I can think of three options, none of which look good:

1) Use kinit in a pre-start script for the nslcd-k5start job, and duplicate the
K5START_START logic in both the pre-start script and the main script.
2) Re-solve the problem that Upstart's supposed to solve with a signalling
system, like letting the nslcd job wait until the nslcd-k5start job had set a
flag (or a timeout occurs). Something like a spin lock.
3) Stall the nslcd script for set period of time and hope the nslcd-k5start
script doesn't take very long to start.

At the moment, option 3 seems like the best of the bad options:
introducing an extra dependency and duplicating control logic seems like
a good way to introduce bugs, and implementing a lock system is robust
but complicated. A revised debdiff that uses the third option is
attached. I'm quite open to arguments in favor of another option, and
I'd be delighted to know of a non-hackish solution.

[Bug 1023733] [NEW] Ubuntuone not syncing files

2012-07-11 Thread ottadini
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu 12.04 LTS
ubuntuone-client 3.0.1-0ubuntu1.0.1

I modified a file, and Ubuntuone set about syncing it, however, it is
stuck. On the gui in the top-right corner it has 'File sync
starting...', but it doesn't progress.

I have rebooted, tried using console commands to stop and restart,
checked exceptions log and syncdaemon log, without understanding the
problem. The syncdaemon-exceptions.log has this:

2012-07-12 15:08:27,128 - dbus.proxies - ERROR - Introspect error on
org.freedesktop.NetworkManager:/org/freedesktop/NetworkManager:
dbus.exceptions.DBusException: org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.AccessDenied:

interface="org.freedesktop.DBus.Introspectable" member="Introspect"
error name="(unset)" requested_reply="0"
destination="org.freedesktop.NetworkManager" (uid=0 pid=1244
comm="NetworkManager ")

If it is of any relevance I am currently accessing the affected machine
via NX.

[Bug 993265] Re: gtk-window-decorator crashes in XGetWindowProperty() from get_mwm_prop() from event_filter_func()

2012-07-11 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Paddy, it seems the offending function in your case ("get_mwm_prop") is
already protected and handles errors correctly. So it's my instructions
that are giving you the wrong stack trace.

Could you please try breaking on gdk_x_error instead?

[Bug 1023730] [NEW] Ubuntu upgrade from 10.04 to 10.10 fail

2012-07-11 Thread adebayo
Public bug reported:

I try to update from Ubuntu 10.04 to 10.10 or from 10.04 to 12.04 but
never succeeded. I used update-manager it failled, I then used the
following command command prompt and try to upgrade again it still
failed,

>sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get upgrad
>sudo apt-get dist-upgrade

All the third party software in source.list are disable, I try off
offline iso alternative cd, yet all failed

>sudo unmount -o loop /home/adebayo/Downloads/ubuntu-10.10-alternate-i386.iso
>/media/cdrom
>sudo sh /media/cdrom/cdromupgrade

Some o the error messages are:An unresolvable problem occurred while
calculating the upgrade:
E:Error, pkgProblemResolver::Resolve generated breaks, this may be caused by
held packages.

 This can be caused by:
 * Upgrading to a pre-release version of Ubuntu
 * Running the current pre-release version of Ubuntu
 * Unofficial software packages not provided by Ubuntu

Please help out. Thanks

[Bug 1022809] Re: Empathy contact list window freezes even without account

Thanks for the reply. The empathy crashes before I can open the debug in
the help menu. I get this from running empathy-debugger in a terminal.
Not sure whether this is what you need.

[Bug 734908] Re: Unity is visible on top of fullscreen apps

2012-07-11 Thread Daniel van Vugt
quequotion:

Fix released in "unity", meaning source code 6.0 released:
https://launchpad.net/unity/+milestone/6.0

Packaging for Ubuntu 12.10 is coming soon. And if all goes well, then it
will be back-ported to 12.04 after that.

Normally you should watch for "unity (Ubuntu)" to know when a fix hits
Ubuntu, however it was marked Fix Committed by Omer a little early.
Apparently that's standard practice for Unity bugs (?).

[Bug 1023467] Crash report cannot be processed

2012-07-11 Thread Apport retracing service
Thank you for your report!

However, processing it in order to get sufficient information for the
developers failed (it does not generate a useful symbolic stack trace). This
might be caused by some outdated packages which were installed on your system
at the time of the report:

x11-common version 1:7.6+12ubuntu1 required, but 1:7.7+1ubuntu1 is
available

Please upgrade your system to the latest package versions. If you still
encounter the crash, please file a new report.

Thank you for your understanding, and sorry for the inconvenience!

Hello Steve,

that directory was not a mount point. Unfortunately I did not have the
time to look at its content. I did a

apt-get remove --purge nfs-common

followed by

apt-get install nfs-common nfs-kernel-server

and that fixed the issue.

I have marked this as a duplicate of the apport crash that I just
submitted, as it should give the developers more debugging information.
This crash still occurs in Quantal.

See this document for currently supported Ubuntu releases:
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Releases

I've tried recreating this bug with Ubuntu 12.10 and was unable to,
given the information you've provided. Please upgrade to the latest
version and re-test. If the bug is still reproducible, increase the
verbosity of the steps to recreate it so we can try again.

Do feel free to report any other bugs you may find.

2012-07-11 Thread Martin Pitt
This would be a problem with Python 3, which we use in Ubuntu 12.10 now.
It ought to work in 12.04 with Python 2, as some_int/2 is still an int
(rounded down).

[Bug 1023724] [NEW] Elementary OS Jupiter Installer failed to install its bootloader (GRUB) to any available drive/partition

2012-07-11 Thread Dandromb
Public bug reported:

I used the graphical installer provided with the x64 flavor of the
Elementaery OS Jupiter liveCD. I tried to install Jupiter to an external
HDD, which seemed to go well untill it was time to install the
bootloader at the last step of the installation. At that point, I was
notified that GRUB failed to install, and was prompted to choose another
location, but all drives, in addition to all partitions existing on
those drives, yielded the same failure to install.

I will likely not be able to boot Elementary.

(I am a novice user to Ubuntu/Elementary, so I cannot answer extremely
advanced questions. I am willing to help all I can, though.)

Note: I found no 'syslog' in /var/log.

[Bug 804943] Re: blcr kernel module failed to build with kernel 3.0 : configure: error: --with-linux argument '3.0-x' is neither a kernel version string nor a full path

2012-07-11 Thread Angel Guzman Maeso
I would contribute with some advances. This is not a final result, just a WIP
on my
intent to fix the problem.

Note: I am not a expert, if you try this, it is under your own risk. This could
break
your operating system installation or make it unstable.

This is how I solve the issue for my particular machine, this couldn't be the
same
for your machine or kernel.

1) First download the source and uncompress

sudo apt-get source blcr-dkms=0.8.4-2ubuntu1
cd blcr-*

2) As minor warning, from Perl to 5.13.5 or beyond Debian bug #650522 suggests
surrounding each use of qw(…) with rounded parenthesis: (qw(…)). There are a
couple on
using on acinclude.m4. So I fixed that for avoid the warning.

Ubuntu shipped on Quantal 5.14.2, so it triggers the warning too:
perl -v | grep "(v"
This is perl 5, version 14, subversion 2 (v5.14.2) built for
i686-linux-gnu-thread-multi-64int

3) I discover that the configure has a problem finding the kernel
version path.

/usr/src/linux-headers-3.5.0-3-generic/include/linux/version.h

But in only search on other diferent paths with "cr_linux_dir" on acinclude.m4
 without "linux-headers", so I add:

For the first for:
 /usr/src/linux-headers-[$1] \

And for the second:
/usr/src/linux-headers-${cr_tmp_ver} \

That enable the searching on 3.x kernels on ubuntu.

4) Next problem is the instruction:

m4_define([cr_kern_maj_min_patt],[[2\.[46]\.]])[]dnl  No SUBLEVEL or
following

As pointed on upstream debian bug, it make fails the build (cause of
this bug)

I changed to:

m4_define([cr_kern_maj_min_patt],[[3\.[0-9]\.]])[]dnl  No SUBLEVEL or
following

This enable only for 3.X kernels, it could be improved for allow 2.X and 3.X
kernels,
but cafeful because the var cr_kern_maj_min_patt is concatenated for the third
version number.

That enable the part of:

if ((my $uts) = /=${stamp}->"(3\.[0-9]\.[0-9].*)"<-/o) {

For detect the UTS_RELEASE constant.

This constant is defined on
$ cat /usr/src/linux-headers-3.5.0-3-generic/include/generated/utsrelease.h
#define UTS_RELEASE "3.5.0-3-generic"

sudo nano acinclude.m4

sudo ./autogen.sh

5) With this, you can progress configuring the package, but I don't know if it
is a special configuration on my machine (SMP) or others, but it ends with:

==
Please review the following configuration information:
  Kernel source directory = /usr/src/linux-headers-3.5.0-3-generic
  Kernel build directory = /usr/src/linux-headers-3.5.0-3-generic
  Kernel symbol table = /boot/System.map-3.5.0-3-generic
  Kernel version probed from kernel build = 3.5.0-3-generic
  Kernel running currently = 3.5.0-3-generic
==
configure: error: Kernel source is configured uni-processor but the kernel
symbol table is SMP. Consider specifying a symbol table with --with-system-map
or --with-vmlinux. Or, if using kernel sources that are configured by
/boot/kernel.h, you may try --with-kernel-type=SMP to force an SMP
interpretation of the sources.
$ sudo ./configure --with-system-map
configure: error: Kernel source is configured uni-processor but the kernel
symbol table is SMP. Consider specifying a symbol table with --with-system-map
or --with-vmlinux. Or, if using kernel sources that are configured by
/boot/kernel.h, you may try --with-kernel-type=SMP to force an SMP
interpretation of the sources.

If I use all the options and even install linux-source I cannot get to
pass.

sudo apt-get install linux-source

I discover that the acinclude.m4 is searching on /boot/kernel.h file, but the
file doesn't exist. So I change a little the script for read on the right
location:

/usr/src/linux-headers-3.5.0-3-generic/include/linux/kernel.h

This is a tricky command like:

locate kernel.h | grep `uname -r` | grep linux/kernel.h

This can be improved, but I modify the acinclude.m4 like this:

cr_kernel_type=`echo $1 | tr 'a-z' 'A-Z'`
  cr_kernel_version_string = `uname -r`
  cr_header=`locate kernel.h | grep $cr_kernel_version_string | grep
linux/kernel.h`

sudo ./configure --with-kernel-type=SMP

But It still fails, so I comment that part, for continue al least seeing
other possible errors.

For example, on kernel 3.X some checks are dirrent:

This:

CR_CHECK_KERNEL_MEMBER([fdtable.next_fd],[
#include
#include
#if HAVE_LINUX_FDTABLE_H
  #include
#endif
  ],[struct fdtable],[int],[next_fd])

Change for:
CR_CHECK_KERNEL_MEMBER([fdtable.next],[
#include
#include
#if HAVE_LINUX_FDTABLE_H
  #include
#endif
  ],[struct fdtable],[struct fdtable],[next])

But it still fails, so probably I still doing something wrong.

6) Another bug fail is the failure with autoconf.h.

The required kernel header file autoconf.h no longer lives at
include/linux/autoconf.h; for quite some time, it's been at
include/generated/autoconf.h,
and the relocation of that generated autoconf.h file appears to go back to
decembe

[Bug 1023723] [NEW] Oops and soft lockups with 3.2.0-25 and 3.2.0-26 on ION system

2012-07-11 Thread b
Public bug reported:

This ION system was working very well on lucid for years.

Recently I upgraded to 12.04 and switched to a bluetooth keyboard after
my previous wireless keyboard died.

Now I'm seeing all too many soft lockups and Oops that make the system
unstable.

This is an HTPC so its not easy to try to use a regular USB keyboard,
but I can try if that helps.

Attached is my kern.log.

[Bug 999910] Re: [IVB]12.04 64 bit System freezes (mouse, keyboard)

2012-07-11 Thread quequotion
>>Michael

As evident by a number of duplicate bugs, the problem is also with Sandy
Bridge.

In fact, as pointed out by Sean, it may not be specific to a certain CPU
at all.

My guess would be poor implementation of some technology common to
recent Intel and AMD processors.

Hoss's suggested linux-
image-3.2.0-27-generic=3.2.0-27.44~pre201207100400 from ppa:kernel-ppa
/pre-proposed seems to do the trick for me, but I'd like at least a week
to test it.

[Bug 1020285] Re: Addition of leap second causes spuriously high CPU usage and futex lockups

2012-07-11 Thread Nathan Stratton Treadway
Note that even though it's been a while since the leap second, a kernel
affected by this bug could persist with its desynced internal idea of
time, and the system would show no noticable symptoms until someone
eventually runs an effected application. (See
https://lkml.org/lkml/2012/7/1/203 and
https://lkml.org/lkml/2012/7/10/446 for more details.)

The attatched short Python script can be used to check a particular
system to see if the kernel is left in that desynced state (and avoids
causing high CPU usage during the test).
