[Bug 958279] Re: FGLRX DPMS support totally broken, fails to wake up the monitor after putting it to sleep.

2014-09-24 Thread Rahul
Ubuntu 14.04 here, Radeon HD 8490. The bug has bit me once (fail to
wake up from DPMS screen off). What happens frequently is that, with
DPMS on (I use "xset dpms 0 0 600"), it behaves for a while, then keeps
blanking the screen so often that it becomes unusable. I also have
"xset -s" (no screensaver). If I do "xset -dpms" then the machine is
fine but of course the display stays on. I use i3wm, am not using any
desktop environment that would blank the screen for me. I have now
generated an xorg.conf as suggested in the previous comment, and will
wait and see how it does.

[Bug 1373760] [NEW] 14.04 hangs with passwd_compat: ldap

2014-09-24 Thread Giuseppe Attardi
Public bug reported:

I did a release upgrade from 12.04.3 to 14.04.1.

After the upgrade, only local users could log in and any command was very
slooow.
In particular commands like add-user or add-group would never finish.
Hence some installation commands would hang.

Removing mentions of ldap in nsswitch.conf seemed to solve the problem.

In the end I discovered that the apparent cause was removing this line
from nsswitch:

passwd_compat: ldap

and using instead

passwd: compat ldap

** Affects: libnss-ldap (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

I had a similar problem after an release upgrade from 12.04.3 to
14.04.1.

After the upgrade, only local users could log in and any command was very
slooow.

Removing mentions of ldap in nsswitch.conf seemed to solve the problem.

In the end I discovered that the apparent cause was removing this line
from nsswitch:

passwd_compat: ldap

and using instead

passwd: compat ldap

After this change, everything worked normally.

[Bug 1209326] Re: SRU micro-release (MRE) 3.10.3 from utopic to trusty - calculator fails to do proper calculatoins after CTRL+Z and Enter

2014-09-24 Thread Chris Malton
@Gunnar: Thanks for pointing me to the link.

Based on what I'm seeing, the .deb in Amr's PPA generally looks good in
terms of backport. I am, however, by no means an expert in this field.

@Ubuntu Sponsors Team - Does Amr's patch look good or is there something
else you need one of us to do?

[Bug 1363154] Re: [Cellular] Odd behaviour with '3' SIM card and radio settings

2014-09-24 Thread Sergio Schvezov
It is actually the right behavior, maybe a popup with an explanation
might be better; it's just like wifi where I say, use only 'n', but my
the APs I can register only support 'g'

[Bug 1373495] Re: sudo shouldn't preserve caller's HOME environment variable by default

2014-09-24 Thread Vdragon
** Description changed:

Currently Ubuntu hard-coded sudo to preserve HOME environment variable
to point to sudo caller's home directory by default(refer bug #760140)
however this is dangerous and error-prone because the program run by
root may write files (e.g. $HOME/.Xauthority , program config files)
- into the HOME directory **AS ROOT** which, will cause issue when users
- run the same program as themselves and even make the user failed to
- login(due to .Xauthority file owner is incorrect)
+ into caller's HOME directory **AS ROOT** which, will cause issue when
+ users run the same program as their normal users' account again and even
+ make the user failed to login(due to .Xauthority file owner is
+ incorrect)

In my opinion the Ubuntu patch(keep_home_by_default.patch) that make
$HOME variable keep in sudo is INSANE and should be reverted(Ubuntu
should use the safest configuration to general users by default), any
user wish to run command as root using their HOME directory should set
env_keep in /etc/sudoers themselves and acknowledging the consequences.

  RootSudo - Community Help
  Wiki(https://help.ubuntu.com/community/RootSudo ) wrongly tells that
graphical application shouldn't be launch by sudo, but in fact the real
  issue falls into this bug.

[Bug 1310316] Re: Text scaling factor changing unexpectedly

2014-09-24 Thread Alex Armstrong
There may be more than issue here. But the suggestion that the Large
Text option is causeing the issue seems promising for my case. The
option gets flipped on when I change the fonts, e.g. via ubuntu-tweak or
dconf and presumably is at the cause of the exponential increase in font
size.

[Bug 1364464] Re: unity8-dash has a thread that is polling rather rapidly on epoll wait

2014-09-24 Thread Michi Henning
Thanks for the info! The linked branch mitigates this be eliminating
reconnects for twoway invocations completely, and limiting reconnection
attempts for oneway invocations to at most one per second. This is an
interim fix, and I'm working on a solution that will eliminate the
reconnection attempts completely once they have failed a number of
times, but that's a non-trivial change. For now, this will certainly
help to reduce battery drain by a lot.

[Bug 932834] Re: Enable equalizer

2014-09-24 Thread floid
It's not clear what themuso was referring to back in 2012, but as nevion
alluded to above, qpaeq is 'just' a Python program.
It's the GUI required (absent equivalent software) for the end-user to do
something useful with the capability exposed by the modules (which do come
stock, but aren't loaded by default).

See:
http://cgit.freedesktop.org/pulseaudio/pulseaudio/plain/src/utils/qpaeq

Perhaps the problematic dependency back then was PyQt4 or sip? Or not,
this is what's known as "unfounded speculation" on my part.

[Bug 1373726] [NEW] Config file buffer limit

2014-09-24 Thread Zach Riggle
Public bug reported:

The routine read_config_file is still using a statically sized buffer.
Almost two years ago this was fixed in upstream.

This breaks when using very long config file lines. For example, trying
to set an enum for all enumerated error numbers in errno (see below).

daefa4a - Use getline instead of static buffer in read_config_file (1
year, 7 months ago) - Petr Machata

To reproduce, create a file named ~/.ltrace.conf with the following
line:

[Bug 1373108] Re: Standard option for selecting Live or Install in Xubuntu bypassed

2014-09-24 Thread Adam Conrad
Surely, this is unetbootin-specific, and nothing really to do with the
Xubuntu ISOs (as in, I'm not sure why this was added to the ISO
tracker).

dding the ISO directly to USB media should give the desired behaviour.
