[Bug 2072974] Re: python3-paramiko is unusable on Jammy in FIPS mode
** Description changed: [ Impact ] * When one enables FIPS mode on a Jammy system and then attempts to use paramiko in Python, the module crashes. * The cryptography package throws an InternalError when it finds that X25519 is unsupported. This error is not being caught and is crashing the import of the paramiko package. The fix is to catch the InternalError exception and return false that X25519 is not supported. [ Test Plan ] * Enable FIPS on a Jammy system. - sudo pro attach - sudo pro enable fips-preview # Non-preview not supported yet? - sudo reboot (To test FIPS on a Noble system) - sudo add-apt-repository ppa:fips-cc-stig/fips-under-certification - - sudo apt install -y ubuntu-fips openssh-server=1:9.6p1-3ubuntu13+Fips1~rc0 - openssh-client=1:9.6p1-3ubuntu13+Fips1~rc0 - openssh-sftp-server=1:9.6p1-3ubuntu13+Fips1~rc0 + - sudo apt install -y ubuntu-fips openssh-server=1:9.6p1-3ubuntu13+Fips1~rc0 \ + openssh-client=1:9.6p1-3ubuntu13+Fips1~rc0 \ + openssh-sftp-server=1:9.6p1-3ubuntu13+Fips1~rc0 \ --allow-downgrades --yes * Run the Python3 interpreter. * Import paramiko and observe the crash. * Close the Python3 interpreter. * Upgrade to the new version of Paramiko. * Run the Python3 interpreter. * Import paramiko and observe no crash. * FIPS is not available on Oracular, however the bug should be fixed in Oracular and all future versions [ Where problems could occur ] * If any code relies on that InternalError occurring when checking if X25519 is available, this code will now not work properly because the function will return false instead of throwing the InternalError. [Bug 2040476] Re: visual glitches when on ubuntu 23.10 with fractional scaling
I'm seeing this same behavior on Ubuntu 24.04.1 LTS with fraction- scaling (called Window Scaling in xfce4) set to x2. For signpost I get exactly the same glitches as seen in Roland's screen recording. Besides the visual glitches in signpost, all the sgt-puzzle games seem to be affected by similar visual glitches, making them essentially unplayable. [Bug 2077761] Re: Enhancement Request - General Personalization of Date/Time specification
I believe the option to make such customization should be happening up- front, during the installation, so that presumably the OS could have the preferred format "hard-coded" so that there isn't overhead at every usage to generate the customized date/time reporting. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2077761 Title: Enhancement Request - General Personalization of Date/Time specification To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/coreutils/+bug/2077761/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 2077761] [NEW] Enhancement Request - General Personalization of Date/Time specification
Public bug reported: The following was sent as an email to coreut...@gnu.org as directed by them. = Distributor ID: Ubuntu Description:Ubuntu 22.04.4 LTS Release:22.04 Codename: jammy Version:coreutils 8.32-4.1ubuntu1.2 What I expect to happen: Please see below. Question: Why does ubuntu-bug transmit 300kbs for close to 4 minutes !!! That is a log of data, and I have to question the justification for so much data. = Hello, Please refer to my postings, = here (https://github.com/mate-desktop/caja/issues/1712#issuecomment-2305818307), where I stated: The issue here is that the FORMAT for time and date should be set set from the UbuntuMATE Preferences window for Time and Date**, for it to be globally applied to the system. The choices offered should be either as a regional/country/ISO default, or a personalized version of a regional/country/ISO default. This would involve a click-toggle to offer customization of any date/time field. This could include user-defined change of TimeZone, to a specified region/country, even if that TimeZone is different than the default, I suggest selectable by drop-down). Once that specification is chosen/edited, that format specification should be applied universally for all user-oriented interactions, with the exception of those that are core system (i.e. syslog and the like, which would use the regional/county/ISO default underlying the user's personalizations. Something like that was previously offered in one of the older Ubuntu distros (somewhere between 10 and 16) but I can't remember which one. = and here (https://github.com/mate-desktop/caja/issues/616#issuecomment-2305779056), where I stated: I have this bash logic which I would like to see merged into Caja as an option for global time formatting. Would that be possible? (I would like it for the ls command, but I don't think that you handle that. :-) ) Create customized version of ‘ls l’ to report on files during the progress of the script. Key aspect is that, if the modification is older than 24 hours, it reports only the date; otherwise it reports only the time of the last change using the 24-hour clock. myLs() { #eval stat --format=\"\|\%A\|\%h\|\%s\|\%y\|\%n\|\" \"${1}\" eval stat --format=\"\|\%A\|\%h\|\%s\|\%Y\|\%n\|\" \"${1}\" | awk -v now=${time_now} '{ n=split( $0, vals, "|" ) ; #mult24=( (1.0*now) - vals[5] )/86400 ; #print mult24 ; # 86400 seconds in a 24 hour period if( ( (1.0*now) - vals[5] )/86400 > 1 ){ printf("%s %2s %15s %10s %s\n", vals[2], vals[3], vals[4], strftime("%F", vals[5]), vals[6] ) ; }else{ printf("%s %2s %15s %9s %s\n", vals[2], vals[3], vals[4], strftime("%R:%S", vals[5]), vals[6] ) ; } ; }' } = Thank you in advance for your consideration and, hopefully your acceptance of this feature request. [Bug 2077202] [NEW] BlackMATE-border Theme - Overlooked use of "bar_unfocused.png" for unfocused non-maximized windows
Public bug reported: Expected behaviour Un-focused windows should all be presented with the same colour tile "bar_unfocused.png", whether maximized or not. Frame_style "normal_unfocused" should incorporate attributes for "titlebar_fill_unfocused". Actual behaviour Currently, metacity-theme-3.xml for BlackMATE-border only has directives to show different colour for unfocused windows that are maximized, namely frame_style "normal_max_unfocused"! No similar directive exists for frame_style "normal_unfocused" windows. Steps to reproduce the behaviour Use UbuntuMATE 22.04.4 LTS distro installation. Load published theme set for BlackMATE-border from mate-themes-3.22.26 build. Open more than one terminal. Click on one then the other, while looking at the titlebar to observe any colour change (none will appear). Maximize one window, then click on the non-maximized terminal from the taskbar and compare the titlebar colours (the colour difference will be barely visible, but it is observable). [Bug 2073991] [NEW] Add FIPS defines to Noble OpenSSL header files
Public bug reported: Release: Noble OpenSSL version: 3.0.13-0ubuntu3.1 The Noble FIPS release only produces the FIPS provider library. In previous versions, like Jammy, the FIPS release also produced a libssl- dev that contained the FIPS changes to the header files needed for compiling against the FIPS library. For Noble, it was planned to rely on the standard libssl-dev release and to have all of the needed defines already present in that standard release. In the Atsec review of the Noble FIPS release, it was discovered that the FIPS patches make changes to three header files which did not get included in the standard Noble libssl-dev release. The request is to add these changes into the Noble OpenSSL release: From 0010-providers-Add-a-FIPS-status-indicator.patch: include/openssl/fips_names.h /* * The module status indicator for the FIPS provider. This is queried from * the provider. * Type: OSSL_PARAM_INTEGER */ # define UBUNTU_OSSL_PROV_FIPS_PARAM_UNAPPROVED_USAGE "ubuntu.fips-unapproved-usage" From 0046-signature-Clamp-PSS-salt-len-to-MD-len.patch include/openssl/core_names.h: #define OSSL_PKEY_RSA_PSS_SALT_LEN_AUTO_DIGEST_MAX "auto-digestmax" include/openssl/rsa.h /* Auto-detect on verify, set salt length to min(maximum possible, digest * length) on sign */ # define RSA_PSS_SALTLEN_AUTO_DIGEST_MAX -4 From 0049-crypto-dh-perform-a-PCT-during-key-generation.patch include/openssl/self_test.h # define UBUNTU_OSSL_SELF_TEST_DESC_PCT_DH "DH" Atsec is asking for the "UBUNTU_OSSL_PROV_FIPS_PARAM_UNAPPROVED_USAGE" define so that is the priority. The other defines were found by searching the FIPS openssl patches for changes to files in the include/openssl directory. ** Affects: openssl (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2073991 Title: Add FIPS defines to Noble OpenSSL header files To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/openssl/+bug/2073991/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1818239] Re: scheduler: build failure high negative weighting
I'm at a tad late (5+ years after the last comment), but in case it helps, we just ran into a situation where a user (not cloud admin) exhausted their IP allocations in a user-defined subnet, which caused an error in the nova-compute.log: NoMoreFixedIps: No fixed IP addresses available for network: 62c7b2e2-4406-4dda-9a01-f0ec623335d4 which caused the BuildFailureWeigher to offset the weight by -100. This was in a Stein cluster, so quite old. A newer version may have this disabled by default, but we had to manually disable it. Regardless, it caused all other tenants' VM deployments to fail since every compute node that tried to deploy the above VM resulted in the above error, causing each compute node to be assigned a large negative weight. Just wanted to mention our experience in case it helped someone else who was searching for the problem. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1818239 Title: scheduler: build failure high negative weighting To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/charm-nova-cloud-controller/+bug/1818239/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1285444] Re: Login Successful, Desktop Never Loads
Same issue with Secure boot enable and file system encrypted. The only workaround i find was at the login screen toggle to shell Crtl Alt F3, then login and manually launch the gnome (startx) to see what was wrong. The error was xf86enableio failed to enable io ports -03ff operation. Something wrong in the configuration file perhaps linked with the use of a dual screen configuration. So sudo apt install ubuntu- desktop will allow to run gnome ( without tweaks from canonical). The only problem is that in the x.conf there is a leak of definition for the second screen but i think it's a know bug. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1285444 Title: Login Successful, Desktop Never Loads To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/at-spi2-core/+bug/1285444/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 2054810] Re: Adding bpf to CONFIG_LSM in linux kernel
Can Ubuntu please consider addressing this as a part of the upcoming 24 LTS release? The ability to leverage LSM based BPF programs on Ubuntu out-of-the-box (ie. without having to update grub and rebooting) opens the door to a growing ecosystem of security tooling. There are major computing environments for which the community cannot control things like Grub settings - such as the Ubuntu images used by Microsoft (via GitHub Actions, Azure Pipelines), GitLab (via Jobs), AWS (via vanilla EC2 instances), etc. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2054810 Title: Adding bpf to CONFIG_LSM in linux kernel To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/2054810/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 2043299] Re: Linux 6.5 breaks Novation Components web MIDI application
Thank you Jonatan! I can confirm too : using Ubuntu mate 23.10 / 1.26.2. Kernel is Linux 6.5.0-21-generic x86_64 Chrome Version 122.0.6261.94 (Official Build) (64-bit) : no connection, time out Chrome Version 123.0.6312.22 (Official Build) beta (64-bit) : works just fine, circuit tracks is recognized, connected and midi works Hopefully they'll fast track the inclusion of those changes from beta to release, but in the meanwhile beta works fine so not a blocker anymore. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2043299 Title: Linux 6.5 breaks Novation Components web MIDI application To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/2043299/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 2043299] Re: Linux 6.5 breaks Novation Components web MIDI application
Same behavior here, using Ubuntu mate 23.10 / 1.26.2 and google chrome (from chrome .deb, not chromium or a snap or flatpak). Kernel is Linux 6.5.0-21-generic x86_64 The circuit tracks has firmware 1.15 (latest, from dec 2022), and the following script is run before hand as root to set the midi buffers (this is required with firmwares > 1.02 with the circuit tracks as newer firmwares use bigger chunks to speed up transmissions) #! /bin/bash echo "must be run as root" echo -n "current alsa midi OUT buffer size " cat /sys/module/snd_seq_midi/parameters/output_buffer_size echo 'setting alsa midi OUT buffer to 65535' echo "65536" > /sys/module/snd_seq_midi/parameters/output_buffer_size echo -n "current alsa midi IN buffer size " cat /sys/module/snd_seq_midi/parameters/input_buffer_size echo 'setting alsa midi IN buffer to 65535' echo "65536" > /sys/module/snd_seq_midi/parameters/input_buffer_size echo -n "new alsa midi IN buffer size" cat /sys/module/snd_seq_midi/parameters/input_buffer_size echo -n "new alsa midi OUT buffer size" cat /sys/module/snd_seq_midi/parameters/output_buffer_size Using Chrome, which worked before upgrading to 23.10, the novation components website attempts to connect ( webmidi is enabled/allowed in Chrome for this device), then times out. ( When starting Components in Firefox, the device doesn't show at all, but this is not new and din't work before upgrading to 23.10 either. ) I can connect to the device using components in chrome browser on an android device, so the circuit tracks and usb cable used are working as expected.

This bug affects me, too. Further information requested by Paride Legovini: 1. What did you do to trigger it? Run "sudo freshclam" to update virus database or "clamscan /path/to/file" to scan a file. 2. Is it reproducible? Yes, it happens every time I run freshclam or clamscan. 3. Was clamav working fine before you upgraded to lunar? Yes. I upgraded to lunar back in October when its repo got available. I think this bug started in late December or early January. [Bug 1974230] [NEW] Negative cache results from dnsmasq do not include SOA as required in RFC2308
Public bug reported: RFC2308 states: 6 - Negative answers from the cache When a server, in answering a query, encounters a cached negative response it MUST add the cached SOA record to the authority section of the response with the TTL decremented by the amount of time it was stored in the cache. This allows the NXDOMAIN / NODATA response to time out correctly. The effect is that the negative cache results returned by dnsmasq cannot be cached by other resolvers such as systemd-resolved. A good example of why this is a problem: Two clients with systemd-resolved send DNS queries to dnsmasq for the same record The first one makes a query and gets NXDOMAIN with SOA. This results in systemd-resolved caching the negative result. The second client makes a query and gets NODATA without the SOA. This results in systemd-resolved not caching the negative result. Consider a domain name that only has an A record published. When connecting to that domain a lookup happens for the and A record. One can end up in a situation where systemd-resolved has the A record cached locally, but it still goes out to the network to perform the lookup only to get the same negative cache result that is missing the SOA I see this behavior in 18.04 and 22.04 First query to dnsmasq can be cached: dig @10.0.1.21 a.google.com ; <<>> DiG 9.16.1-Ubuntu <<>> @10.0.1.21 a.google.com ; (1 server found) ;; global options: +cmd ;; Got answer: ;; ->>HEADER<<- opcode: QUERY, status: NXDOMAIN, id: 3107 ;; flags: qr rd ra; QUERY: 1, ANSWER: 0, AUTHORITY: 1, ADDITIONAL: 1 ;; OPT PSEUDOSECTION: ; EDNS: version: 0, flags:; udp: 512 ;; QUESTION SECTION: ;a.google.com. [Bug 1970663] Re: Tiny mouse cursor in firefox snap
Hi, this is a major show stopper for me. I cannot use Ubuntu 22.04 at all because of that. Even if I downgrade to 21.10, I will have to stay with that version forever, unless there is a plan to fix that issue in an upcoming version of Ubuntu. The mouse pointer in Firefox is too tiny and I always, constantly, loose track of it. I cannot accept the idea of lowering the whole screen resolution for that single application and it is too time consuming and frustrating to bypass the Ubuntu's packaging system to manually install Firefox from somewhere else. It's been years and years I'm literally fighting to be able to use my LCD screen at a native resolution and I'm so pissed off if I finally have to give up that I am more and more eady to stop using my computer. People can argue this has no importance, but I was told, since two years and more, that NOTHING I do or enjoy has importance. I need a solution, otherwise I cannot use Ubuntu anymore. I will have to switch back to Windows for the time being, but I really dislike that. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1970663 Title: Tiny mouse cursor in firefox snap To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu-mate/+bug/1970663/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1966499] Re: Recent 5.13 kernel has broken KVM support
I arrived at work this morning to find a frozen workstation with a full disk. This bug was one of two relevant search results, so I'm documenting the recovery steps I took here in case it will be helpful to others: 1. Held down the power button until the PC turned off. 2. Waited a few seconds and powered the PC back on. 3. On the grub menu, chose Advanced options for Ubuntu -> Ubuntu, with Linux 5.13.0-35-generic (recovery mode) and waited for the system to boot. 4. On the Recovery Menu, chose the root option and hit enter. 5. Ran the following: rm /var/log/kern.log # freed up about 800GB head -n 10 /var/log/syslog > /var/log/syslog.bak # saved a few copies of the error just in case rm /var/log/syslog # freed up another 800GB apt remove linux-image-5.13.0-37-generic linux-image-unsigned-5.13.0-37-generic # it was necessary to remove the second package because that's what apt tried to install when only the first one was specified reboot # temporary fix is complete 6. Allowed the system to boot normally without intervention. 7. Logged in, opened a terminal, and confirmed that the fix worked: uname -a # Expected output: Linux IS01209 5.13.0-35-generic #40~20.04.1-Ubuntu SMP Mon Mar 7 09:18:32 UTC 2022 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux virsh list # Expected output: # Id Name State #- # 1my-windows-vm running # # Note: My Windows VM is configured to start on boot. For affected users who have a Windows VM that is not configured to start on boot, it may be necessary to start the VM manually before moving on to the next step. watch du -h /var/log/syslog /var/log/kern.log # Expected output: # Every 2.0s: du -h /var/... (hostname and date/time) # # 320K/var/log/syslog # 100K/var/log/kern.log # # Note: If those two files stay the same size or grow slowly, the fix worked. If those two files grow rapidly, the fix did not work. Note that the above steps will also uninstall the linux-generic-hwe-20.04 package, which will prevent future kernel updates. When this bug is resolved, I plan to run (and recommend that others run) `sudo apt install linux-generic-hwe-20.04` to resume kernel updates. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1966499 Title: Recent 5.13 kernel has broken KVM support To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1966499/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

My laptop is able to connect to any system with Ubuntu 20.04.4 LTS installed on it. However, when trying to use Remmina to VNC into my laptop with Jammy Jellyfish installed from another machine with Ubuntu 20.04.4 LTS installed the connection is actively refused. I have already checked to make sure that all sharing features are turned on along with the UFW firewall configured to allow connections through port 5900. Also uninstalled Remmina, and reinstalled it on my laptop with Jammy Jellyfish installed. Still get the same issue. The exact error message that comes in in Remmina is "Unable to connect to VNC server" when everything is configured correctly on my laptop with Jammy Jellyfish installed. Just for the sake of experimentation, I set up Jammy Jellyfish on another machine of mine to troubleshoot the issue further. When trying to connect from one machine with Jammy Jellyfish installed on it to another machine with Jammy Jellyfish installed on it;I still get the same error "Unable to connect to VNC server" within the Remmina software. In summary, any machine of mine with Jammy Jellyfish is able to VNC into any machine with Ubuntu 20.04.4 LTS installed on it. No machine with 20.04.4 LTS is able to VNC into another machine with Jammy Jellyfish installed. VNC connections in Remmina between machines with Jammy Jellyfish installed are unable to connect to each other. ** Affects: remmina (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1965459 Title: Remmina actively refusing VNC connection Ubuntu 22.04 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/remmina/+bug/1965459/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Certain plugin also support the DEB installation way and the snap one (MAAS, LXD, ...) so all Ubuntu standard installation types are covered. + * Problem found and fixed during the packaging process: + + ** sos-help module wasn't part of the build process + ** sos-help man page wasn't also not part of the build process nor mention in main sos man page + + Bug: + https://github.com/sosreport/sos/issues/2860 + + PR: + https://github.com/sosreport/sos/pull/2861 + [OTHER INFORMATION] - Release note: + Release note: https://github.com/sosreport/sos/releases/tag/4.3 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1960996 Title: [sru] sos upstream 4.3 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/sosreport/+bug/1960996/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

* Sadly the Atom D2500 + the chipset is seen as 32-bit by the 14.04 64-bit installer. * (The 16.04 32/64bit versions both do not have 3D acceleration, only 12.04 and 14.04… and at least 14.04 still gets ESR patches). * 18.04 and newer only boot to a blinking black cursor. * Regarding this “GMA500” graphics chipsets and newer distros: it seems to be “up to the distro to implement for their needs and newer kernels, as Intel does not support this chipset” * The “recipe” or whatever it is called was originally released for the 3.x kernel line. * The EMGD project that is up and running, and needs an OS distro/maintainer to implement is located at the website below * So far community efforts have gotten support for up to 18.04 * https://github.com/EMGD-Community I’m eager to learn how to help, but not sure how I can at the moment other than donating to Ubuntu efforts, etc. Best, Eric From: nore...@launchpad.net on behalf of Dan Bungert <1960...@bugs.launchpad.net> Date: Monday, February 14, 2022 at 4:40 PM To: hilga...@gmail.com Subject: [Bug 1960776] Re: i386 installer crashes @Eric, have you tried the amd64 installer yet?
