We'd be grateful if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem. We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures At a minimum, we need: 1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the problem, including the method you used to install 9.04 and the steps you take to connect to the network, 2. the behavior you expected, and 3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible). Thanks for taking the time to make Ubuntu better. During a freeze, please try RIGHT ALT + SYSREQ + K and let us know if it restarts X for you. If it works, then it's an X issue. If not, then it would seem to be a kernel issue. If it's an X issue, please attach your X server configuration file (/etc/X11/xorg.conf) and X server log file (/var/log/Xorg.0.log) to the bug report as individual uncompressed file attachments using the "Attachment:" box below. Could you please also try to run without any /etc/X11/xorg.conf and let Xorg autodetect your display and video card? Please also attach the /var/log/Xorg.0.log from this attempt. If it's a kernel issue, then please include the following additional information, if you have not already done so (pay attention to lspci's additional options), as required by the Ubuntu Kernel Team: 1. Please include the output of the command "uname -a" in your next response. [Bug 355711] Re: NOT solved. https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+question/49739
Thanks for taking the time to make Ubuntu better. If you're looking for support to get your webcam working with Skype, then filing a bug against the software will be a slow and painful experience for you. The Launchpad bug tracking system is intended for software bugs that can be fixed by developers, and each bug report must include enough information about the bug to be useful. It doesn't work very well for support questions. The workaround in https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+question/49739 really does work, but it's not easy and can be very frustrating if you've never compiled software before. You can get much faster and more effective support with the workaround in the two official support channels: At ubuntuforums.org or on IRC at irc.freenode.net #ubuntu. The real, fixable bug (broken support for many webcams - take a look at bug 255678, for example) is being worked on. If you feel that your issue (webcam not working) is covered by bug 255678 or another existing bug, please click the 'Affects Me Too' link on that bug so you will be notified when it is fixed. And please reply to this bug report so we can close it. If you feel that your issue is new and not covered by an existing bug report, that you have uncovered a new bug, then we'd be grateful if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem. We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures At a minimum, we need: 1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the problem, 2. the behavior you expected, and 3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible). [Bug 350745] Re: Solved bugs are still hanging around as default
Thank you for taking the time to improve Ubuntu. Ubuntu relies on volunteers to triage bugs, including closing resolved bugs. If you find a bug that really is resolved, you can change the status to reflect it. For more information about bug status, and how you can help, please take a look at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/BugSquad/KnowledgeBase . You can get fast and knowledgable answers and mentoring about bug triaging on IRC at irc.freenode.net #ubuntu-bugs In the case of bug 95886, the problem does indeed have an easy workaround, but the bug itself does not appear to be resolved (patched or obviated by a newer version), so it's still a valid bug. Since your issue is more of a bug methodology question than a patchable bug in an Ubuntu package, I'm closing it. ** Changed in: ubuntu Status: New => Invalid -- Solved bugs are still hanging around as default https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/350745 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
