Ahh, yes, whoops. [Bug 1456789] Re: restarting services hangs on systemd-tty-ask-password-agent
I haven't extensively tested all services, but it looks like anything set up similarly to smbd. Some have different behaviour, such as network-manager which immediately returns with: % sudo restart network-manager [sudo] password for jgoguen: restart: Unable to connect to Upstart: Failed to connect to socket /com/ubuntu/upstart: Connection refused But in general it looks like these services all fail. [Bug 1456789] [NEW] Unable to restart services from scripts
Public bug reported: I have a script run as root from cron that tweaks smb.conf and restarts smbd and winbind. Problem is, starting today after working perfectly up till yesterday, this script now hangs on Ubuntu 15.04. When run from cron, the process tree looks like this: service smbd restart \_ systemctl restart smbd.service \_ /bin/systemd-tty-ask-password-agent --watch \_ /usr/bin/pkttyagent --notify-fd 5 --fallback Run from a shell via sudo, same thing except the process tree (obviously) includes the sudo command. It times out after 5 minutes, causing the script to fail. If I manually kill the processes, it fails faster. The simplest possible scripts that reproduce this, run as root or through cron or via sudo, are: #!/bin/sh service smbd restart #!/bin/sh systemctl restart smbd.service Using 'service', this works perfectly on Ubuntu 14.04 and 14.10, and until this morning worked perfectly on 15.04 as well. 1) The release of Ubuntu you are using, via 'lsb_release -rd' or System -> About Ubuntu Ubuntu 15.04 2) The version of the package you are using, via 'apt-cache policy pkgname' or by checking in Software Center systemd 219-7ubuntu5 samba 2:4.1.13+dfsg-4ubuntu3 3) What you expected to happen Services to restart 4) What happened instead Services didn't restart, 'systemctl' hung ** Affects: systemd (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1456789 Title: Unable to restart services from scripts To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/systemd/+bug/1456789/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 416905] Re: Hewlett-Packard HP Pavilion dv2500 Notebook PC hibernate/resume failure
I've tested with the upstream build from the Kernel Team's page (2.6.34-999.201003151003) and the system resumed perfectly and quickly from hibernate with whatever it uses as the default driver for a nVidia card. I wasn't able to get the nVidia proprietary driver to install properly though. ** Tags removed: needs-upstream-testing -- Hewlett-Packard HP Pavilion dv2500 Notebook PC hibernate/resume failure https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/416905 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 416905] Re: Hewlett-Packard HP Pavilion dv2500 Notebook PC hibernate/resume failure
I don't know if apport-collected is actually valid. I tried to run "apport-collect -p linux 416905" but was told that the -p option no longer exists and the syntax is now "apport-gtk ". When I ran "apport-collect 416905", apport crashed with an error that I eventually gave up trying to copy (reasons explained below) and failed to connect to the DB (even though my Internet connection appeared otherwise fine) when apport tried to report that crash. Entering hibernation seemed to go fine. When I came back out of hibernation, the screen was flickering very badly, as if the vertical refresh wasn't matching what the monitor was using. This made it hard to see what was going on, but I had a Terminal window open before hibernating so I used that to enter the apport-collect commands. The mouse cursor was barely visible through this and didn't always register that I had clicked on something. Reading results was also difficult. When I tried to shut down, the system unloaded GNOME fine, but the shutdown splash screen never appeared and after almost 10 minutes I forced the system to power off. I've since tried three times to boot the system, each time after about 5 minutes of it just sitting at the boot splash I hard booted and tried again. It finally booted on the fourth try with no sign of the previous video issues. I used the nouveau driver for this test, but trying again with the proprietary nVidia driver wasn't any better. The system seemed to come out of hibernate this time, and I do have power going to USB devices that get plugged in, but the screen stays blank even when I try to switch to another vterm. Taking it on faith that there's something there to log in to doesn't seem to work on either the text or graphical vterms. I left it that way for about 10 minutes then forced a restart and got back to a normal session. I'll repeat as much of this as I can with the latest upstream kernel and see if there's any changes. -- Hewlett-Packard HP Pavilion dv2500 Notebook PC hibernate/resume failure https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/416905 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 305898] Re: Kernel panic on HP Pavilion dv2622ca
Hi Kevin, Disabling packet bursting is something that needs to be done on your wireless router. Directions vary based on your router, but you are typically looking for an advanced wireless option labelled "Packet Bursting". Changing this option will likely cause your router to restart, or at least cause all wireless clients to lose their connection temporarily. To change your wireless driver, you must install the ndiswrapper- utils-1.9, ndiswrapper-common and ndisgtk packages. Then, go to System -> Administration -> Hardware Drivers and disable the Broadcom STA driver. Once that's complete, reboot if asked. You will now need the Windows XP drivers for your computer, which for 32-bit systems can be downloaded from the HP driver download site for your laptop. Unpacking them will require the cabextract package. After unpacking them, go to System -> Administration -> Windows Wireless Drivers and search for the .inf file you just unpacked. This will get the drivers installed. You may have to edit /etc/modules (gksudo gedit /etc/modules) and add "ndiswrapper" as a line in that file to get wireless to work after a reboot. If you have any problems or questions about this, please use Launchpad Answers (https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu) or the Ubuntu Forums (http://ubuntuforums.org/) rather than replying to this bug as bugs are for tracking issues and workarounds while Launchpad Answers and the Ubuntu Forums are for support questions. [Bug 334052] Re: Network Manager Plasmoid won't connect to "WPA Enterprise" AP's in Jaunty
H.i.M, Sorry, I totally missed your post with the network setup! No problem getting hints either! The log file you're looking for is either /var/log/daemon.log and/or /var/log/syslog. You can get just the relevant logs by running one of these commands, depending on the file you want to look at. You could even open two terminals and run both at the same time to get both logs in one shot! tail -F /var/log/daemon.log | tee -a ~/Desktop/daemon.log tail -F /var/log/syslog | tee -a ~/Desktop/syslog Those commands will display the logs in the terminal, and also make files on your desktop with the same name as the log file you're looking at. After running the command, try to connect. When you're done, just push Ctrl+C in the terminal to stop collecting logs. The resulting files can be uploaded here. -- Network Manager Plasmoid won't connect to "WPA Enterprise" AP's in Jaunty https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/334052 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 161000] Re: system hangs on pressing while using Compiz-Fusion
Hi Thom, This bug is being reopened because of your last comment regarding this still being an issue with Jaunty. I am still unable to reproduce this using Jaunty with binary nVidia drivers. Could you please reproduce this issue and post new output from lspci, a new X server configuration file (/etc/X11/xorg.conf) and a new X server log file (/var/log/Xorg.0.log) to the bug report as individual uncompressed file attachments using the "Attachment:" box below? Could you please also try to run without any /etc/X11/xorg.conf (just rename it to something other than /etc/X11/xorg.conf) and reboot to let Xorg autodetect your display and video card? Please try again to reproduce this issue with that setup, and attach the /var/log/Xorg.0.log from this attempt. [Bug 369603] Re: file-roller kills entire session when a process cannot be executed
This is the AppArmor profile in force that caused this issue. To reproduce, apply this profile, open an archive with file-roller, and try to either use the Extract button, or drag files from file-roller to a Nautilus window. /bin/mv will be denied, and the entire login session will crash. With the previous debdiff applied, file-roller won't crash but will be mostly useless until closed and re-opened. ** Attachment added: "usr.bin.file-roller" http://launchpadlibrarian.net/26162383/usr.bin.file-roller -- file-roller kills entire session when a process cannot be executed https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/369603 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 369603] Re: file-roller kills entire session when a process cannot be executed
This patch prevents file-roller from taking down the session when it dies like this. Only problem is, if file-roller remains open it's essentially useless anyway. If file-roller is kissed or closed in the middle of an operation this won't be an issue, but if AppArmor is the cause, file-roller will need to be restarted to get functionality. Not sure if this is acceptable or not, and I don't know where to look to further fix this, so here's my debdiff applying the patch provided in the upstream bug. ** Attachment added: "file-roller_2.26.1-0ubuntu2.debdiff" http://launchpadlibrarian.net/26162351/file-roller_2.26.1-0ubuntu2.debdiff -- file-roller kills entire session when a process cannot be executed https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/369603 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
