OK, so I bisected the kernel versions by using the mainline builds. The first kernel where this breaks is v4.8-rc1 (v4.7.x works fine). [Bug 1636333] [NEW] Squirrelmail - missing Subject/Body on some messages in 16.04
Public bug reported: In Ubuntu 16.04, Squirrelmail has a regression from 14.04. Certain messages are missing the subject or message body. [Bug 1317518] [NEW] UI Permission Problems After Upgrade from 12.04 to 14.04
Public bug reported: I upgraded a machine from Ubuntu 12.04 to 14.04 using "update-manager -d". After upgrading, rebooting, and logging back in, I had various user permission problems: I could not change anything in Network Manager, update-manager told me "Not authorized to perform operation" when I launched it, sound did not work, Synaptic would not launch from Dash, etc. Looking for existing bug reports, I found bug 1240336 which suggested to me that this might be a PAM-related problem. I then compared the contents of /etc/pam.d to a machine that was freshly installed with 14.04. Running "pam-auth-update --force" eliminated most of the differences. Additionally, I removed the libpam-ck-connector package (which seems to not be needed?). After this, this /etc/pam.d matched the freshly installed system. After logging out and back in, the problems were resolved. ** Affects: pam (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1317518 Title: UI Permission Problems After Upgrade from 12.04 to 14.04 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/pam/+bug/1317518/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1240336] Re: Not authorized to perform operation / Unable to determine the session we are in: No session for pid
Experienced this problem on a machine after upgrading from 12.04 to 14.04. I compared my /etc/pam.d contents to a freshly installed 14.04 system. "sudo pam-auth-update --force" corrected most of the differences. Also uninstalled the "libpam-ck-connector" package (which seems to be not needed?). Not a packaging request, but a sync request. Package just needs to be imported from Debian. [Bug 1193398] [NEW] Window Becomes Transparent When Minimizing Other Windows
Public bug reported: I have observed this with Ubuntu 12.04, compiz 1:0.9.7.12-0ubuntu1, Intel graphics. If I have several windows visible and then start minimizing some of them, sometimes one of the still visible windows will become transparent (ie, the title bar of the window is drawn correctly, but the contents show what is behind the window). Clicking on the transparent window (title bar or inside the window itself) causes it to be drawn correctly. This doesn't happen every time, but if I have about 5-6 terminal windows visible and then start minimizing them, the weird behavior will often happen to one of the terminal windows. In a slightly different variation, sometimes the misbehaving window will shift its position down by about a title bar's height of pixels. ** Affects: compiz (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1193398 Title: Window Becomes Transparent When Minimizing Other Windows To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/compiz/+bug/1193398/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

To get this to downgrade successfully, after doing: sudo apt-get install bcmwl-kernel-source=5.100.82.38+bdcom-0ubuntu6 I also had to add "blacklist brcmsmac" to /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist- bcm43.conf.
