[Bug 1382748] Re: Interface with 16:9 aspect ratio

2014-10-27 Thread POJAR GEO
OK, I found the problem. This occurs when changing appearance through
the following menu path:

* Setup
* Output configuration
* Apply matte
* And choose one of the following: 4: 3, 16:10 16: 9, 1.85: 1 or 2.35: 1

Everything is fine when used directly in the menu path:

* Setup
* Output configuration
* 16: 9 output

I will investigate this problem and propose a solution (soon).

[Bug 921533] Re: vtun server is not accepting client connections because of missing /var/lock/vtund at startup

2014-10-27 Thread Bishop
Here's the fix for another distro:

# cat < /etc/tmpfiles.d/vtund.conf
d /run/lock/vtund 0755 root root -
EOF

# fix it before the next reboot too
# systemd-tmpfiles --create

We can debate all day whether it's a packaging bug or a software bug.
But that may be the fix here too.

[Bug 1283826] Re: lightdm hangs after updates

2014-10-27 Thread bob
Hi

I very much appreciate the assistance.

Im ok getting into terminal & as long as its a copy and paste kinda deal, Im a
gui user having moved over from windows
but over the last few years I have gotten fairly familiar with what does what
when it comes to ubuntu/linux...
and have no problem busting out terminal or opening this or that in kate and
doing some editing...

I do not however have the ability to just buts out a terminal window and
know what to type natively.

here you go & thank you.. took a while to figure out how to get into the
log files as root :)

thanks again :)

[Bug 1381660] Re: Realtek card rtl8723be bluetooth and WiFi

2014-10-27 Thread abldef
I'm using Utopics default kernel and I also got wifi working with
https://github.com/lwfinger/rtlwifi_new. I even got bluetooth to work
with lwfinger's rtl8723au_bt. But when bluetooth is enabled, wifi is not
working very well (unless the signals is very good, the connection
becomes slow and unresponsive at times). I know that bluetooth and wifi
use the same antenna for this chipset, but I'm hoping it's a driver
issue and could be fixed on the software level. I would be happy to
debug if needed.

[Bug 1384297] Re: gpu i915 OOPS on power change intel_display_power_put+0xf9

2014-10-27 Thread Wong Yong Jie
I see this during suspend/resume, and sometimes it results in lockup,
requiring a restart of lightdm.

I think it might be safe to say that this regression happened somewhere
between Linux kernel 3.13 and 3.16. I was previously running Ubuntu
14.04 LTS (with the 3.13 kernel) and there were no issues. However,
running Ubuntu 14.04 LTS with the upstream 3.16 kernel gave this
warning. After upgrading to Ubuntu 14.10 LTS (with the Ubuntu 3.16
kernel), the problem persisted.

[Bug 1386082] [NEW] Sync residualvm 0.1.1+dfsg-3 (multiverse) from Debian unstable (contrib)

2014-10-27 Thread Jackson Doak
Public bug reported:

Please sync residualvm 0.1.1+dfsg-3 (multiverse) from Debian unstable
(contrib)

Explanation of the Ubuntu delta and why it can be dropped:
  * Kludge around clean rules, and handle newer arches with
autotools-dev updating config.{guess,sub}.
Fixed in debian

Changelog entries since current vivid version 0.1.1+dfsg-2ubuntu1:

residualvm (0.1.1+dfsg-3) unstable; urgency=medium

  * Added "pre-clean.patch" to fix `make clean` before 'configure'
(Closes: #751038).
  * residualvm-data: corrected description typo (Closes: #714445);
Thanks, Pascal De Vuyst.
  * Bumped packaging copyright years.
  * Standards-Version to 3.9.5.

Hi Badari,
Yes you are right , I used 21st sep iso build to install with LVM and it got
installed without any issue.

? [!!] Finish the installation ??
?   ?
?? Installation complete ?
?? Installation is complete, so it is time to boot into your new system. ?
?? Make sure to remove the installation media (CD-ROM, floppies), so ?
?? that you boot into the new system rather than restarting the ?
?? installation. ?
??   ?
???
?   ?
?

Thanks...

[Bug 1376581] Re: DisplayPort monitor not properly detected via HP ultraslim docking station 2013

2014-10-27 Thread andrea
Hi all,
as suggested, I tried to install the latest v3.17 kernel[0] in Ubuntu 14.10.

Hardware:
elitebook 840
hp ultraslim docking station 2013

Software Ubuntu 14.10
- with both the default kernel and the 3.17
- without using AMD drivers
- installing the drivers available in the Additional Drivers tool (fglrx)
- installing the drivers downloaded from the AMD website

In the best situation, the external monitors are not rightly recognized
(just 1 monitor with a lower resolution) but the screen is always off.

[Bug 1386096] [NEW] Virt-managerbroken after 14.10 upgrade

2014-10-27 Thread jlord87
Public bug reported:

I was using virt-manager on my Ubuntu 14.04 laptop connecting through
ssh to my remote server (running Ubuntu 12.04 and then 14.04) without
any problems.

I upgraded to 14.10 and I started having issues: virt-manager was
connecting to the kvm server without any problems but when I tried to
connect to a remote host it kept asking for the server password.

I uninstalled and reinstalled virt-manager (cleaning my home directoried
files - in order to have a "clean" installation) but now I'm not even
able to start virt-manager, it gives me this error:

$ virt-manager
Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "/usr/share/virt-manager/virt-manager", line 34, in
from virtinst import util as util
ImportError: No module named virtinst

I do really need to fix this problem in order to work, any hints?

thank you

[Bug 1273261] Re: Cryptsetup error during boot: /scripts/local-top/cryptroot: line 1: can't open /dev/mapper/ubuntu--vg-root: no such file

2014-10-27 Thread Kanariezwart
I can confirm @shuhoa findings, my 14.04 /13.10 laptop displays the
error, but I can boot and continue after the error. It just displays the
error message, but harmless.

- Either a second cause for displaying the same error message is present (in
all 14.04 and later distro's.)
- Or a different cause (probably with no output at all) which halts after the
same error message is shown.

[Bug 1269838] Re: gnome-session.log takes 8 GB in a few hours

2014-10-27 Thread Matt Falcon
Also ran across this bug. It came up on my VMware system under a Windows
10 host, seemingly due to an issue with VMWare kicking network in and
out very, very rapidly. Constant disk and CPU activity perked up as soon
as I connected the VM to the host bridge, and the "network is
disconnected" message came and went. The activity never stopped, I fell
asleep (... yep), and when I came back to it, a new message about low
disk space was there as well. I examined the drive and found this log
file exploded to 11 GB. Googled it, found this thread.

VMWare apparently has an issue with networking in Windows 10, where
bridged networking no longer works at all even with the VMWare Bridge
networking service added back after the upgrade, and with VMWare
repaired with the latest installer. It's a pretty clean system but it's
been upgraded from one version to the next as Ubuntu's been updated over
the years.

In the interest of bug-squishing, I compressed the 11GB file down to
11MB (yay, 7-Zip!), and posted it here. I'm primarily a Windows guy with
fair knowledge of Linux, so hopefully this isn't a hassle to open...
Dropbox has become too unreliable to use for hosting files, so I've got
to post it on my OneDrive.

http://1drv.ms/1pPNTjH

Hope this helps!

[Bug 1269838] Re: gnome-session.log takes 8 GB in a few hours

2014-10-27 Thread Matt Falcon
As it turns out... reading my own log... it had nothing to do with the
network popup. Wow. It's all about Moonshine S-Off, a rather poorly
written (and very user-hostile) program that tries (and often fails) to
exploit an S-Off onto an HTC phone. Rumrunner actually worked properly,
anyway, with a better sense of humor on the same basic code. :P

Seems like it logs every line that goes onto a terminal - even if that
line is just overwriting the previous one. And that's what blows up the
log file.

[Bug 1083084] Re: add option for alt-tab window grouping disable

2014-10-27 Thread tehownt
WIth the release of 14.10, compiz-plugin-extras are not packaged anymore
and fallback to the static window switcher (recommended everywhere when
this issue is mentionned) is not easily feasible anymore. Users are
bound to the default unity switcher's painful time delay.

This switcher behavior is ridiculous and counterproductive, as
mentionned many times in this thread, there should be an option to
disable grouping and/or have a way to go back to a switcher that
resembles the static one (live preview yet no grouping).

[Bug 1269838] Re: gnome-session.log takes 8 GB in a few hours

2014-10-27 Thread Matt Falcon
God, I wish I could edit replies. A little more analysis, and it seems
like I've thrown a little more of the puzzle together.

When I tried running it, I tried opening it directly from the file
browser. That did nothing. But, apparently, it did actually do
"something" - it ran in the background! My guess is that it got launched
in a way that it hides the terminal output and expects a GUI to be
created. So it kept feeding it blank lines each time it tries prompting
for input. Hence, the "Type 'Yes' or 'No'", "(Yes/No)" repeating over
and over until it filled the hard drive, as well as the high CPU and
disk activity around the time I was trying to run it.

Also explains why I didn't have this issue when I tried fixing the
networking problem later - the log file was stable after I deleted it
and rebooted.

So, maybe this is caused by a terminal program being launched with the
file manager trying to open it as a GUI program instead of as a terminal
program, then constantly sending it blank responses for each input, and
the program rejects those responses in an infinite loop!
