[Bug 815996] Re: Desktop occasionally freezes/locks up when switching workspaces
I've experienced an occasional lock-up when showing Workspaces as well. However, in my case I can see that applications are still running - for example I can still type into a terminal. I'm running 14.04 LTS in VirtualBox 5. I use Hotcorners to trigger the Workspaces view. I've noticed I can back out of this "crash" by sending Ctrl-Alt-Delete to the Ubuntu VM, which opens the Log Out dialogue. [Bug 1514065] Re: Windows move in workspaces after a window resize event
** Description changed: I run Ubuntu 14.04 LTS as a VirtualBox guest (both with VB 4.3.x and 5.x) using the default desktop. If I toggle the size of the screen - (using Host-Right-Ctrl) from maximised to not maximised and then back + (using Host-Right-Ctrl-F) from maximised to not maximised and then back again, the workspaces behave incorrectly. Re: [Bug 1714518] Re: GTK+3 doesn't show FUSE/GVFS, smb (SMB/CIFS), sftp (SFTP/SSH) network shares in file chooser
Ah, ok, that explains why it didn't work.. Does anyone have any idea when 14.04LTS is going to get a patch? It's been months with nothing in sight. I thought installing an LTS meant issues would get some attention. Really enjoying the Linux experience overall but the lack of urgency in addressing a bug which is so annoying (used to work fine until one of the official updates broke the functionality) makes me hesitant to move more computing onto this platform. Still affecting Thunderbird in 14.04LTS. I'm just a Ubuntu user affected by this (very new to Ubuntu) so I was waiting for the fix to come via one of the many automatic updates. Do I have to patch something manually? Any pointers for us newbies would be very helpful. Re: [Bug 1881780] Re: Nautilus requires SMBv1 to work from "Other Locations" without manually typing in the address.
Logically this seems to be correct. I’m not a samba developer, so I don’t have direct insights to what is happening when. I don’t know much about the samba discovery process. The easy way to test this is startup FreeNAS in a VM because they disable SMBv1 by default. Re: [Bug 1881780] Re: Nautilus requires SMBv1 to work from "Other Locations" without manually typing in the address.
No but when you use the automatic detection of smb services which I’m guessing uses NetBios or something like that it won’t connect if SMBv1 is disabled. So simply navigating to Other Locations and clicking on the automatically enumerated host names, the connection will completely fail if SMBv1 is disabled. This might be related to samba directly because the same thing happens in VLC. The current workaround is to manually specify the URL to connect to the desired share. [Bug 1861936] Re: Raspberry Pi 3 network dies shortly after a burst of IPv6 tunnel network load ((lan78xx): transmit queue 0 timed out)
I can deterministically reproduce this crash with Wireguard on the RPI3 running 20.10 and hence using the lan78xx driver on eth0. A few minutes of browsing public web sites on a client connected through Wireguard to the RPI3 crashes the RPI. Changing nothing except for running Wireguard's forwarding through wlan0 rather than eth0 does not result in any crashes. So certainly seems to indicate that the wired ethernet's lan78xx driver shipping today with 20.10 is the culprit causing these crashes. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1861936 Title: Raspberry Pi 3 network dies shortly after a burst of IPv6 tunnel network load ((lan78xx): transmit queue 0 timed out) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-raspi/+bug/1861936/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 876910] Re: When starting open ssh server without host keys in /etc/ssh/, the keys are not automatically generated.
Hello Clint, sshd is no longer started and/or stopped with /etc/init.d/ssh unless you are running inside a chroot. I'm new to upstart, so forgive my ignorance, but I thought upstart still used the init scripts to start and/or stop the jobs. The host keys are typically generated in the postinstall script of openssh-server. I think this may be the issue. So if you don't have keys, its likely that something went wrong during that process. Well, I suppose this is true, but in this particular case, I intentionally remove them as a final step to prepare a base image for use with QEMU-KVM. It is a security concern to have multiple guest VMs all running with the same SSH key. Try this to remedy the situation. sudo apt-get install openssh-server --reinstall Two things, 1) Why not: dpkg-reconfigure openssh-server As this seems to be a more direct route? Again, maybe I'm not seeing all of the pieces. 2) In the Development environment both of these solutions will work, however, this is not scalable and is not a viable solution in a production environment. Thanks for your quick response. As is my experience with other non- upstart distros, SSH automatically creates these host keys if they don't exist, it is my strong personal belief that Ubuntu should not deviate from the norm for two reasons, first to remain consistent with 'Linux' (other distros) , and second so I can present a viable solution to my management using an Ubuntu platform. Please let me know if you think I'm way off here, I really do appreciate the assistance. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to openssh in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/876910 Title: When starting open ssh server without host keys in /etc/ssh/, the keys are not automatically generated. [Bug 876910] Re: When starting open ssh server without host keys in /etc/ssh/, the keys are not automatically generated.
After further testing, determined that my patch did not actually resolve the issue. Seems to be an issue with triggering the following sub: check_rsa_keys () { #Checks for the existance of RSA keys and generates them if necessary RSA1_KEY=/etc/ssh/ssh_host_key RSA_KEY=/etc/ssh/ssh_host_rsa_key DSA_KEY=/etc/ssh/ssh_host_dsa_key if [ ! -s $RSA_KEY ] || [! -s $RSA1_KEY] || [! -s $DSA_KEY]; then exec /usr/sbin/dpkg-reconfigure openssh-server fi } Initially, I had added the above if/then statement to my /etc/init.d/ssh script towards the beginning (starting at line 13 to be exact) before I created the subroutine and the patch. Pardon my blonde moment. That being said, -where- can we add a check for the existence of the host keys? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to openssh in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/876910 Title: When starting open ssh server without host keys in /etc/ssh/, the keys are not automatically generated. [Bug 876910] Re: When starting open ssh server without host keys in /etc/ssh/, the keys are not automatically generated.
Hello Clint, No, upstart jobs are designed to be short and pointed ways to define how a daemon starts and stops. /etc/init.d is only for backward compatibility in an upstart system. The ssh init.d script was left the way it is because of chroot jails for sshd, but it is not necessary for normal operation. OOO! *Light Bulb*! this makes sense. Thanks for setting me straight. Yeah, thats probably better. What was I thinking? ;) Sometimes it's more fun to do things the hard way. :) Not sure why this isn't scalable... its not that heavy of a command and it should be idempotent. I can't automate it. If I Can't automate it, can't scale it well. The problem is, for every new VM, to enable SSH this requires the SysOp to: -- Log into the Host Machine, -- Determine the VNC port -- VNC to the the VM, -- Run the command. With enough volume, these four steps could make for a full time job. It's not the command itself, but the work surrounding the command. I do think its a bit odd that they are generated at install time rather than whenever they are missing, I'm glad, I thought I was having a derp moment. Also, checking for these files at startup adds fault tolerance, would you agree? but either way, its a well defined behavior and so can be worked with fairly easily by removing and regenerating the keys at first boot. An upstart job like this would probably work: start on starting ssh task exec [ -f /etc/ssh/ssh_host_dsa_key ] || ssh-keygen -t dsa -b 4096 -f /etc/ssh/ssh_host_dsa_key -q Is this supposed to be all on one line? Causes ssh to hang when calling: start ssh Also, is there a variable that tells Ubuntu if it is first boot? This could potentially solve the problem since the .qcow2 will overwrite this variable. [Bug 669808] Re: Nagios3 checks not scheduled after clocks change from DST
We have been using Nagios3 on Ubuntu 10.04 LTS for the past 6 months or so and ran into this issue shortly afterwards in November 2010 (our last daylight savings change). Nagios had stopped scheduling any more checks and so was not doing anything, but this was not immediately obvious. Found the nagios 3.2.0 daylight savings bug described here, in an article dated Oct 2009 (!) http://www.chown-r.co.uk/2009/10/nagios-schedule-checks-do-not-run-after-daylight-savings-change/ We worked around it as they suggested (set use_retained_scheduling_info=0 and performed nagios restart): However as Ubuntu 10.04 LTS is still not distributing any version newer than 3.2.0 we are still exposed to this bug and are about to be hit by it again as another daylight savings change is about to happen. [Bug 60686] knot3 oops when booting on powerpc64
Public bug reported: I just downloaded knot3 to test on my PowerMac G5, but the kernel oopses right after I select live-nosplash-powerpc64. After a long period of time, the CD-ROM spins up and then an additional few lines of output are printed, then nothing. I tried selecting live-powerpc64 first, but my monitor couldn't handle the bootsplash (19 LCD, ViewSonic VP191b) and I couldn't see anything. After a long while, I gave up and re-tried with nosplash. [Bug 62131] Re: (edgy) bubbly column headers for message list
Thanks for forwarding the bug. The ability to drag and drop the columns to rearrange them is of course not an issue, since it's an added feature above and beyond regular column headers. But previous releases of Evolution have had the same capability, while looking just like regular column headers, which is why I feel that it's a regression - granted, a very minor one. Upstream, the change may have been made intentionally, to make the drag and drop feature more discoverable (I don't follow Evolution development very closely). But if it was not intentional, I think it would be beneficial to have the column headers look like regular column headers. -- (edgy) bubbly column headers for message list https://launchpad.net/bugs/62131 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 291881] [NEW] Search folders have the wrong Unread count
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: evolution I have a folder with 13 unread messages in it, plus some additional messages marked important. I created a search folder for this folder where the criteria is [Status is not Read] or [Status is Important]. The search folder contains all 13 unread messages (I counted them) plus the read messages that are marked important, but the unread count for the search folder is 9 - it displays (9) next to the name of the search folder, and if I select the search folder, at the top it says 9 unread, 51 total. The problem occurs with both an IMAP account and a local Maildir account. Right-clicking on the search folder and selecting Refresh doesn't fix it. Restarting evolution doesn't fix it, either. Deleting and re-creating the search folder fixes the problem, but the unread count gets out of sync again after a while. I've also tried deleting the account from evolution and re-adding it, but the problem comes back after a while. I'm running evolution Version: 2.24.1-0ubuntu2 (the one that comes with Ubuntu 8.10). [Bug 290572] Re: NETDEV WATCHDOG: eth0: transmit timed out, eth0: tx_timeout: dead entries!
** Attachment added: lspci http://launchpadlibrarian.net/18977263/lspci ** Description changed: Binary package hint: linux-image-2.6.24-16-server I'm running Ubuntu Server on a machine with two network cards acting as a file server and gateway; eth0 is the external (Internet-facing) interface. The system has been running fine for almost a year. Last night, the external interface stopped passing traffic. A ifdown eth0; ifup eth0 was enough to bring it back to life. This morning, the same thing happened, and it happened again this evening. Since it doesn't appear to be my ISP's problem, I looked at syslog and found the following: Oct 28 01:30:44 marajade kernel: [4799484.682357] NETDEV WATCHDOG: eth0: transmit timed out Oct 28 01:30:44 marajade kernel: [4799484.682362] eth0: Got tx_timeout. irq: Oct 28 01:30:44 marajade kernel: [4799484.682363] eth0: Ring at 37578000 Oct 28 01:30:44 marajade kernel: [4799484.682364] eth0: Dumping tx registers Oct 28 01:30:44 marajade kernel: [4799484.682367] 0: 2000 00ff 0003 03aa03ca Oct 28 01:30:44 marajade kernel: [4799484.682370] 20: 0001 Oct 28 01:30:44 marajade kernel: [4799484.682373] 40: 0420e20e a855 2e20 ... many more lines ... Google led me to this unanswered e-mail that looks like the same problem: http://kerneltrap.org/mailarchive/linux- netdev/2008/6/26/2240624/thread Software is Ubuntu 8.04.1; linux-image 2.6.24-16-server. Hardware is AMD Opteron 1218 HE / Tyan S2925G2NR. syslog, dmesg and lspci -vv - output are attached. + output are attached. Note that I installed some updates and rebooted + the machine before filing this bug, so the output from dmesg and lspci + are from a slightly newer kernel (2.6.24-19). -- NETDEV WATCHDOG: eth0: transmit timed out, eth0: tx_timeout: dead entries! https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/290572 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 206991] [NEW] File operations dialog doesn't remember its position
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: nautilus If you have a long file transfer going, and you move the File operations dialog to a corner of your screen, any of the following events will cause the File operations dialog repositions itself to the center of the screen: * you start another transfer * you cancel one of the transfers * one of the transfers finishes * you click the File operations icon in the notification area twice (once to hide the dialog, then again to re-show it) The file operations dialog should stay where I put it. Otherwise, it appears to be a different dialog. I'm running Ubuntu 8.04 beta + all updates as of March 25, 2008. dpkg -s nautilus | grep Version shows Version: 1:2.22.0-0ubuntu3. [Bug 206994] [NEW] Tooltips in Hardy Heron lack padding
Public bug reported: In Gutsy and before, tooltips had a bit of space between the border and the text. In Hardy beta, most of the tooltips have no space between the border and the text, which I feel is a regression. I say most tooltips because some tooltips, like the tooltip for the Show Desktop button and tooltips in Firefox have padding. See the attached screenshots for examples. ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Tooltips in Hardy Heron lack padding https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/206994 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
