Btw, looking at /proc/cpuinfo from the attached tarball and at the above
lspci dump, I'd guess we're dealing with hardware that has a Geode LX800
processor with a CS5536 companion chip.

[Bug 234898] Re: xf86-video-geode: unable to use non-default resolutions with GX2 on XFCE since Hardy

2008-12-24 Thread Martin-Éric Racine
Looking at the X.org log, it appears that your display is correctly
probed. However, the driver fails at matching its available modes with
any of those supported by your display.

Did we understand correctly that the driver works as expected under
Hardy (8.04) and that it only fails if you upgrade to Intrepid (8.10)?

If that's the case, it might point to an issue involving the X server
core upgrade from 1.4 to 1.5 - which would need to be inestigated
separately.

[Bug 147736] Re: [Gutsy] PDF printer not available by default

2008-11-28 Thread Martin-Éric Racine
Jan: the rationale for Ubuntu no longer shipping with CUPS-PDF is that
GTK2 and QT both recently acquired native support for printing to a PDF
file. This is accomplished via the Print dialog's Save to file...
option in all GNOME and KDE applications and doesn't require CUPS
anymore.

Explanation of the Ubuntu delta and why it can be dropped:
Whether the delta can be dropped or not remains unverified. The main point is
that swfdec-mozilla 0.8 is starting to show its age and cannot play video based
on recent Flash versions as typically found on e.g. YouTube anymore.

Changelog entries since current lucid version 0.8.2-1ubuntu2:

2009-12-26 Thread Martin-Éric Racine
Ben, thanks for the explanation about 0.9 breakage.

It's not a question of files that used to work no longer working, as
much as much as popular sites upgrading their standard Flash version to
newer releases apparently not supported by swfdec 0.8.

I guess this means that swedec has simply become deprecated.

behavior described in comment #17, that is, everything except Mono
Master gets restored.

[Bug 498968] [NEW] pam_motd: no longer cats the motd.tail component

2009-12-20 Thread Martin-Éric Racine
Public bug reported:

Since a few days, in Lucid, whenever logging in via SSH, the motd only
displays the output of 'uname -a' and skips the display of /etc/legal or
of possible package update notifications. This is a regression from
Karmic.

[Bug 396286] Re: [Geode LX] [OLPC] 2.6.31-generic: kernel panic near the end of initramfs

2009-12-20 Thread Martin-Éric Racine
I'm really wondering what to do about this one since LKML has been
rather uncooperative and yet it already affects those upgrading from
Jaunty to Karmic. However, the real concern is for LTS-LTS+1 upgrades.
Geode support in Hardy is rock-solid, whereas this show-stopper affects
Lucid.

[Bug 498968] Re: pam_motd: no longer cats the motd.tail component

2009-12-22 Thread Martin-Éric Racine
1) I never said that /etc/legal would be displayed more than once per
login. However, it has always been displayed right below the uname
stanza upon every motd output. This is no longer the case.

2) Neither /etc/motd.tail or /etc/motd are empty.

Tested. Crashes as before.

Could we apply this and your extra debug message patch to something
2.6.32 as well and build test packages with that? It seems that 2.6.31
cannot work with Plymouth and some other novelties found in Lucid, plus
upstream probably wants us to try against the latest and greatest.

[Bug 396286] Re: [Geode LX] [OLPC] 2.6.31-generic: kernel panic near the end of initramfs

2009-10-30 Thread Martin-Éric Racine
As a point of information, I recently changed the fstab entries to state
ext4, to benefit from the slightly faster performance that new features
common to both ext3 and ext4 make possible. In principle, this should
not change anything, since both ext3 and ext4 call the same common
fsattr functions but, in case there was a cutpaste error that only
affected ext3 and not ext4, this could have some impacts.

1) it is a Karmic regression that will turn PulseAudio usage into an everyday

[Bug 425411] Re: Computer suspends immediately after resuming after lid close/open

2009-10-27 Thread Martin-Éric Racine
At the risk of stating the obvious, this bug falls into the if it ain't
broken, don't fix it category, as it was working flawlessly in Jaunty
and during the early phase of Karmic development. Someone somewhere
obviously made a drastic change (most probably upstream, but we
shouldn't entirely discount changes in Debian/Ubuntu packaging,
especially build-time patches) and it would be a good idea to figure out
who, when and why, in order to avoid this ever happening again.

[Bug 428435] Re: luks encrypted partition not detected

2009-10-27 Thread Martin-Éric Racine
While I don't have an encrypted partition, I however encountered the
issue that blkid reports an ambivalent filesystem signature on my root
partition, which suddenly makes udev skip detection of this partition
and, as a result, fail to reboot. Trying to run Antti's script, it
reports having found two signatures (vfat and ext3). ext3 is the only
one that should exist, however, asking the script to remove the vfat
signature reports Don't know what to do with signature 'vfat' Refusing
to continue. Any solution?

[Bug 456598] [NEW] incorrect Breaks statement forces removal because of newer firefox-3.5

2009-10-20 Thread Martin-Éric Racine
Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: mozvoikko

Today's latest firefox-3.5 (just a few days before releasing the Karmic
