Thanks for the help. I understand that I have logged bug which was not right.
I will take care next time around.

I had a few other issues with the API and the data which is returned which I
wanted to get clarifications on. Hopefully I can get that from Village pump.

Once again, I apologize for the inconvenience it has caused you.

Nice that this is solved, except that it isn't. I had already noted that at
MediaWiki, it still blanks the header (but doesn't add nowiki). Tested today at
enwiki, and sadly, even worse, again a nowiki was added inside the header
instead of removing the empty header:

and there are a few other implementations about.

Kipod do you have a direct link to templatewizard as I've like to link to it?

There are 300,000 templates on the English wikipedia so many will never have
their TemplateData written making this an important enhancement.

A slightly enhanced version of this request was asked at

http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Wikipedia_talk%3AVisualEditordiff=574762591oldid=573484823

in addition to just getting the names it wanted to find the mandatory

When you add a reference, it is automatically selected (blue), instead of
having the cursor positioned directly after it (or better still, with a space
after the ref and the cursor after that). The effec is that if you enter a ref
and then start typing (which is rather normal editing behaviour), your ref
immediately gets removed (overwritten) again, which makes it rather pointless.

I think that it is much more often the intention to continue typing after
adding a ref, than to have it highlighted, so please change the default
behaviour.

Hi, the GRAMMAR variable for Slovene language, the cases 'mestnik' and
'orodnik', currently includes the prepositions (o and z). These depend on the
context and should therefore be left out of the default pattern.

* o Wikipediji  Wikipediji

Orodnik:

--- Comment #1 from PleaseStand pleasest...@live.com ---
To kill the setting, we should first retain it only for comparison against
old-style, unprefixed password hashes. (I think change I0a9c9729 tries to do
this.)

Then to deal with existing hashes, we could provide a maintenance script to
convert both old-style and :A: hashes to :B: hashes or a future, work-hardened
successor (bug 28419).

Note that when :A: and :B: hashes were introduced in r35923, an updater was
provided to convert old-style hashes using a single SQL query. It was added in
1.13 and removed in 1.15 because it made the updater dependent on wiki
configuration, and thus did not correctly convert unsalted hashes from within
the web installer (bug 18846). Though in any case it did not add salt where
none existed.

Sure, makes sense. Can you please file it upstream yourself, or tell me exactly

Revisiting the issue with a clear mind, a sudden thought: how hard is it to
just add a grrrit-wm clone (presumably fetching from the same redis queue) with

I mentioned $wgPasswordSalt a little while back in a wikitech-l email. After
being prodded by Tim I did come up with an idea on how to handle the backwards
compatibility of ancient hash-only password entries without $wgPasswordSalt.

The simple idea was to just try both. If it's an ancient hash try it both with
and without salt. If either matches then it's ok and you continue. ((Which in
the case of adding this on top of bug 28419 continue would mean converting
that to fresh PBKDF based password storage))

[Bug 50254] VisualEditor: (REOPENED Can't remove heading without header markup leaking to the rest of the page if it is the first element of the page

2013-10-04 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=50254

--- Comment #11 from wikif...@gmail.com ---
(In reply to comment #10)
 You're confusing this with bug 50100.

Not my mistake though, this was reported like this in the VisualEditor weekly
update - 2013-09-26 (MW 1.22wmf19) by Jdforrester:

Blanking the contents of a heading, pre-formatted block or other formatting
block now deletes the block rather than leaving it empty, which is consistent
with how OpenOffice and Google Docs behave (bug 50254).

I noted that what the VE status report describes is ''not'' fixed, and followed
the link number given in the VE status report. If this bug is about something
else than what the VE status report described, then this is just one more in
the already long list of things wrong with that status report (for which it is
apparently impossible to write an update or correction in any way, shape or
form).

Anyway, you still get the behaviour as described: Go to the first word you want
to keep (after the initial header), and use backspace to remove the header:
your next paragraph now becomes the header. Only when you first empty the
header (leaving the line beneath it), and then go to the text and use
backspace, is it possible to remove a starting header without converting the
following text into a header. I wouldn't call this solved, perhaps somewhat
improved assuming that the latter possibility / workaround didn't work in the
past. (I note that you only go to the start of the heading, and then select
downwards instead of sideways; deleting the header like this works as well)

Note also that if yu eventually get rid of that header, it seems to be
impossible to remove a first empty line from an article:
[https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=User%3AFram%2Fsandboxdiff=575703425oldid=575703070].
Probably needs a different bug (or already exists), but not really optimal
either.

[Bug 54948] Kill $wgPasswordSalt

https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=54948

--- Comment #3 from PleaseStand pleasest...@live.com ---

 The simple idea was to just try both. If it's an ancient hash try it both
 with
 and without salt. If either matches then it's ok and you continue. ((Which in
 the case of adding this on top of bug 28419 continue would mean converting
 that to fresh PBKDF based password storage))

Of course, a minor problem with try both is that if a (user_name, user_id,
old-style unsalted user_password) combo were to leak, it would be possible to
log in with it directly, without even having to look it up in a (rainbow)
table.

Perhaps rehashing during the upgrade process could deal with that, provided
that the original hash has not already leaked. Such rehashed passwords could
get a special flag so it would not be necessary to apply the hack to :A: and
:B: hashes. (Unless, of course, a wiki with $wgPasswordSalt = false upgrades to
1.13 or 1.14 first, only discovering bug 18846 too late...)

Because we don't store the inner whitespace of the document, we can't validate
the outer whitespace its first/last children.

1. Create document with wikitext:
==Heading==
Foo
2. Delete 'Heading' and the empty line
3. You now have:
[{'type':'paragraph', 'internal': {'whitepsace': ['\n']}}, 'F'
in the DM
4. This serialises to
\n
Foo

(ec) Yeah, I'm a bit frustrated by the number of errors in that status update,
and the apparent lack of possibilities to correct these (even as an addendum or
some such) and lack of care about this among the people responsible for this.
Not your fault though. Thanks for filing that bug.

[Bug 54948] Kill $wgPasswordSalt

2013-10-04 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=54948

--- Comment #4 from Daniel Friesen mediawiki-b...@nadir-seen-fire.com ---
(In reply to comment #3)
 (In reply to comment #2)
  The simple idea was to just try both. If it's an ancient hash try it both
  with
  and without salt. If either matches then it's ok and you continue. ((Which
  in
  the case of adding this on top of bug 28419 continue would mean converting
  that to fresh PBKDF based password storage))

 Of course, a minor problem with try both is that if a (user_name, user_id,
 old-style unsalted user_password) combo were to leak, it would be possible to
 log in with it directly, without even having to look it up in a (rainbow)
 table.

Hmmm, yeah you're right about that.

 Perhaps rehashing during the upgrade process could deal with that, provided
 that the original hash has not already leaked. Such rehashed passwords could
 get a special flag so it would not be necessary to apply the hack to :A: and
 :B: hashes. (Unless, of course, a wiki with $wgPasswordSalt = false upgrades
 to
 1.13 or 1.14 first, only discovering bug 18846 too late...)

Sounds like a nice idea. Actually if we did that we could eliminate all the
back-compat code we have in User to deal with old password hashes and do
everything in the new Password system. (It's there because the old passwords
are salted with user id and the new password system is isolated so it has
nothing to do with user ids.)

To implement your idea all we'd have to do is implement an :old: password type
in the format :old:{user_id}:{newhash}. The updater would find all rows with
old hash-only password storage. Then hash the hash and insert it with that
format into the database including the user id. Then since the user_id is now
embedded into the storage data the password system no longer needs the state of
what User the password belongs to in order to handle the password.

;) we get to kill two pieces of legacy compat with one change.

then the suggestions drop down menu will appear for a split second but then
disappear again (too quick to use). Pressing backspace and trying again doesn't
do anything, clicking away and clicking back and trying again doesn't do
anything. Closing the dialogue and reopening it will cause the behaviour to
repeat, however, but of course to no use. Behaviour is normal with Vector skin.

[Bug 52552] Install VE August update on hewiki

--- Comment #12 from Eran Roz en...@walla.co.il ---
Thanks for adding the welcome message.

I know there are discussions regarding these changes[1], but the change of the
tab order (Edit and Edit source) is important for he wikipedia and Erik isn't
totally against it [only ambivalent] :)

Since VE is enabled only in the main NS and user NS, for editors who also edit
in other namespaces, addition of the VE edit tab in the middle may cause
confusion. For consistency the edit source option should be alway the first
option [in order], while VE edit should be second.

[Bug 54948] Kill $wgPasswordSalt

2013-10-04 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=54948

--- Comment #5 from PleaseStand pleasest...@live.com ---
Regarding try both, the unsolved (and unsolvable with migration hashes[1])
problem is that if the user reused the password on *another* wiki or site using
unsalted MD5 hashing, the original hash could be taken from that other site.

(In reply to comment #4)
 To implement your idea all we'd have to do is implement an :old: password
 type
 in the format :old:{user_id}:{newhash}. The updater would find all rows
 with
 old hash-only password storage. Then hash the hash and insert it with that
 format into the database including the user id. Then since the user_id is now
 embedded into the storage data the password system no longer needs the state
 of
 what User the password belongs to in order to handle the password.

 ;) we get to kill two pieces of legacy compat with one change.

Defining a separate :old: password type (as described above, except that
{newhash} would instead be the original hash) would avoid the problem described
in bug 18846. Only the class for that password type would have to care whether
$wgPasswordSalt is true or false - not the web installer or the User class.
(And if the try both compromise were made, nothing would have to care.)

The migration hash mechanism should be generic enough to apply to all
superseded types (including :old:, :A:, and :B:) and allow specifying
additional salt that was not part of the original hash.

Wikimedia would still need some B/C code while migration hashes are being
calculated and stored (would it really make sense to update every row in the
table not once, but twice?), though limited to:

if ( preg_match( '/^[0-9a-f]{32}$/', $row-user_password ) ) {
$row-user_password = :old:{$this-mId}:{$row-user_password};
}

rather than:

if ( preg_match( '/^[0-9a-f]{32}$/', $row-user_password ) ) {
global $wgPasswordSalt;
if ( $wgPasswordSalt ) {
$row-user_password = :B:{$this-mId}:{$row-user_password};
} else {
$row-user_password = :A:{$row-user_password};
}
}

[1]: Migration hash is the term Mozilla uses in
https://wiki.mozilla.org/WebAppSec/Secure_Coding_Guidelines#Password_Storage.

Since some ml.wiki communities are significantly small, Malayalam Wikipedia and
Wikimedia Malayalam mailing list generally act as the main discussion
platforms. Though I didn't share this information through public mailing list,
I shared this translation few weeks before, to Admin mailing list where Admins
from all the projects share their ideas and got no objections.

So If possible add these short aliases (ഘ - Module, ഘസം - Module talk) to all

Yes, the URL being incorrect is likely the cause of the other errors. Looking

the component WAP mobile gateway in product Wikimedia can be removed and/or
merged. WAP is still alive but it is part of Mobile Frontend now. So the bugs
should go there (in mobile product/MF). (talked to MaxSem)

[Bug 54969] remove component prototype server

2013-10-04 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=54969

--- Comment #1 from Andre Klapper aklap...@wikimedia.org ---
Bugzilla allows removing components when no reports are left in that component.
This is not the case here, and no idea where else to move these items.

The component is already disabled for new bug entry.
Not sure what we'd gain from removing it.

I'd rather move that component to some Deprecated product in the long run.

[Bug 54971] New: VisualEditor: [edit source | edit beta] links near page title when already in VE mode

2013-10-04 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=54971

   Web browser: ---
Bug ID: 54971
   Summary: VisualEditor: [edit source | edit beta] links near
page title when already in VE mode
   Product: VisualEditor
   Version: unspecified
  Hardware: All
OS: All
Status: NEW
  Severity: normal
  Priority: Unprioritized
 Component: General
  Assignee: jforres...@wikimedia.org
  Reporter: elitr...@gmail.com
CC: jforres...@wikimedia.org, krinklem...@gmail.com
Classification: Unclassified
   Mobile Platform: ---

User report:
[...] The new one (for me at least, perhaps it already existed): when I edit
a page in Beta (my sandbox, or a main space page), I get next to the page title
two pale blue links, edit source / edit beta, which bring me to the section
editing for the lead. I don't get these pale links for other sections, only
next to the title. I can't remember these being there, and I can't see the use
for them (and if they have a use, they would probably be wanted for other
sections as well). Fram (talk) 12:01, 4 October 2013 (UTC)

He uses FF 24, I can't reproduce but we have a screenshot at
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:VE_error_Fram_1.jpg .
