[Bug 62428] New: Special:DispatchStats shows timestamps always in UTC

Bug ID: 62428
Summary: Special:DispatchStats shows timestamps always in UTC
   Product: MediaWiki extensions
   Version: unspecified
  Hardware: All
OS: All
Status: NEW
  Severity: normal
  Priority: Unprioritized
 Component: WikidataRepo
  Assignee: wikidata-b...@lists.wikimedia.org
  Reporter: duplicate...@googlemail.com
CC: wikidata-b...@lists.wikimedia.org
   Web browser: ---
   Mobile Platform: ---

Visiting Special:DispatchStats gives the timestamp always in UTC, but there
should be adjust to the user timezones from the preferences, as all other
timestamps usually are.

Looks like you can pass true as second param to Language::timeAndDate or use
Language::userTimeAndDate to fix this.

Ratelimits can be a possible way to implemt this (Using User::pingLimiter and
$wgRateLimits). Should be done on showing captcha and maybe another limit on
resolving captchas? Or one limit for both, that should also be okay.

However (for anyone unfamiliar), there are already clashing accounts which are
exactly the same other than case.

So for existing wikis, this requires a way to resolve those conflicts (and
different wikis may want different rules for this). That means it probably has
to be a config option, potentially defaulting to case-insensitive for new
wikis.

For the WMF specifically, *if* we want to transition to this, we should
probably do so at the same time as single login finalization
(https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Single_User_Login_finalisation_announcement).
That way's there's only one huge "lots of usernames changed" event.

However, bear in mind this would increase the complexity of the SUL
finalization process. Also, case-insensitive does not mean the same thing in
every language, and it's not the same as "just lower case them both then
compare them".

Ah, I see. Makes sense now.

It looks like uselang is already handled, so what needs to be handled in

Siebrand mentioned. The cookie one was not hard so I'll just figure out the
other two. Thanks!

[Bug 62426] New: Undocumented inter-dependencies of default options (namely wgDefaultUserOptions['rcdays'] and wgRCMaxAge) with hard fail

2014-03-07 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=62426

Bug ID: 62426
Summary: Undocumented inter-dependencies of default options
(namely wgDefaultUserOptions['rcdays'] and wgRCMaxAge)
with hard fail
   Product: MediaWiki
   Version: 1.23-git
  Hardware: PC
OS: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: Unprioritized
 Component: User preferences
  Assignee: wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org
  Reporter: zacharyhar...@hotmail.com
CC: agarr...@wikimedia.org
   Web browser: ---
   Mobile Platform: ---

If I set $wgRCMaxAge to a value such that ceil($wgRCMaxAge/(24*3600)) <
$wgDefaultUserOptions['rcdays'] then upon clicking "preferences" the following
scary and (perhaps intentionally) uninformative message shows up:

Internal error - {{SITENAME}}
[] 2014-03-08 03:56:05: Fatal exception of type MWException

Upon searching the web and finding that I should activate
$wgShowExceptionDetails, I get the following more informative error message:

/wiki/Special:Preferences Exception from line 134 of
/usr/local/lib/mediawiki/includes/Preferences.php: Global default '7' is
invalid for field rcdays

and with a little more digging eventually figure out that I have
unintentionally set the number of days for retaining recent changes to be less
than the number of days to display recent changes. So I solved the immediate
problem of concern for my own system, but the following concerns remain:

1) Documentation: I added brief documentation of this inter-dependency to the
Manual pages for $wgDefaultUserOptions and $wgRCMaxAge at mediawiki.org, since
it was not presently documented there. However, I wonder how many other such
inter-dependencies exist that remain undocumented.

2) Hard fail: Setting an integer/float to a value outside of an
elsewhere-specified-range may indeed qualify as an error, but throwing an
uncaught exception that totally crashes the page in question, without offering
a very helpful explanation as to what has gone wrong, seems a bit extreme. Or
again, choosing settings that would display up to 7 days of recent changes even
though I am only actually retaining 3 days of recent changes may be a *silly*
and partly frivolous choice of settings, but reckoning it as a hard and
unrecoverable fault seems to be going too far.

3) The situation above is actually further complicated by the fact that, from
what experience tells me, rcdays actually gets set to max(3, my setting for
$wgDefaultUserOptions['rcdays']), although I still haven't found anywhere that
the "3" bound is documented or where it occurs in the code.

In summary, I foresee that having to track down the cause of a fault to
unexpected inter-dependencies of settings to be a likely cause of headache for
other site admins in the future. Documentation of such inter-dependencies under
all affected configurable variables would be one nice step.

An API call to wbeditentity, that uses the existing claim guid, is able to
change the property of the claim.

See

https://www.wikidata.org/w/index.php?title=Q6240488&diff=114789738&oldid=114788831

In the diff, the presentation assumes the property of the claim is the same
before and after.

However in the previous revision, there was a 'title' claim. In the modified
revision, there is a 'birth name' claim.

Either the API or the Diff logic is wrong.

Not sure.. The file is pretty large (so first needs copying to the image
scalers). That might cause issues/timeouts. There's numerous bugs around for
these types of issues. Might be worth just giving it a couple of hours and see
if they start appearing

Individual pages at a couple of MB should be fine.

Please upload this 1.9 GB 1000+ page PDF scan of a manuscript that will be used
for proofreading and transcription (as part of a significant work not on
Wikisource as of yet; see the Wikipedia article for "Theophrastus redivivus"
for more info on the manuscript). I have taken all measures to carefully
compress the file into this size (it was much, much larger before), and further
compression would hurt transcription by my best judgment, as the text is in
cursive Latin.

[Bug 60723] Flow floods watchlist

2014-03-07 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=60723

Note: The current solution, as suggested by a few editors, is to show slightly
more than "only the newest edit". Ie. Watchlists with default settings will
currently list the most recent of any:
* new topics started
* content change in a topic (the last post, or last edit to a post or
topic-title)
* moderation actions
* edits to the header

The change is now live on all wikis.

The trello card is/was
https://trello.com/c/U48qVtrO/61-8-bug-60723-watchlist-data-tweaks-fix-in-wmf14

Further tweaks and changes will probably be needed, as the rollout grows and
busier locations are added - such as possibly merging together
"newtopic/firstpost-on-that-topic" pairs? - but this current setup demonstrates
some of the interesting and informative possibilities.

I've started a discussion at [[WT:Flow#Watchlist items]] for "next step"
brainstorming.

If you select text on a Flow board then copy and paste it, the selection

A solution is to add "user-select: none" and the vendor-prefixed variants to
these bits of HTML. (resources/mediawiki.less/mediawiki.mixins.less should have
a .user-select(none) function that generates the full set of
-webkit-user-select / -moz-user-select / -ms-user-select: none properties.)

Bug 62413 (Flow: show less chrome for Printable version of a Flow board) is
related but applies to a different subset of Flow board elements. Users might
be surprised that visible pieces of text aren't part of the selection, although
e.g. skins/common/shared.css does this for the TOC "[hide/show]" and section
"[edit | edit source]".

Some (many) templates do not use any parameters (e.g., hundreds of templates
like https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Template:Stub). However, if you add those
templates, VisualEditor will ask you for parameters, just like it does for any
other template. It would be nice to have a TemplateData setting for "no
parameters here, so don't bother asking".

If you have a complex transclusion (e.g., a succession box), and you try to
rearrange the order of the items, and if one or more of those items is a
template that contains a parameter, then some or all of the
parameter-containing templates will silently disappear.

See
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:VisualEditor/Feedback/Archive_2014_1#Add_content_and_other_transclusion_mysteries
for complaints.

click "Printable version"

The page chrome goes away, but all the bits of HTML for
  5 hours ago
etc. still appear. These should not display, in the same way that [ edit |
edit source] markers don't appear in regular articles when in printable mode. I
*think* simply adding the (sadly undocumented?) class="noprint" to these will
do the right thing, and/or we could add
 'modules/base/styles/printable.css' => array( 'media' => 'print' ),
with finer control as https://gerrit.wikimedia.org/r/#/c/113169 does it.

(We should also add user-select: none to bits of HTML like "Small view
Collapsed view Full view" and "( talk | block )" that appear when you copy and
paste a Flow page. I'll file a separate bug.)

[Bug 45514] ResourceLoader: Implement support for Source Maps

2014-03-07 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=45514

As for implementation, building on comment #2, the bottom of load.php
javascript request would contain something like:

/* cache key: enwiki:resourceloader:3957c1d7aa */
//# sourceMappingURL=load.php?action=sourcemap&id=3957c1d7aa

Aside from incorporating a source map generator in PHP in the first place,
doing this would be a pretty easy first step for minified -> unminifed mapping.

However it's slightly more elaborate to also maintain where the modules came
from to their respective individual non-concatenated files because when we're
in the minifier, it's for the entire request as a whole. We'll have to maintain
that state somehow and accumulate that context as we go on.

[Bug 62412] New: updateBitsBranchPointers points static-{stable,current} at subtly wrong content

2014-03-07 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=62412

Bug ID: 62412
   Summary: updateBitsBranchPointers points
static-{stable,current} at subtly wrong content
   Product: Wikimedia
   Version: wmf-deployment
  Hardware: All
OS: All
Status: NEW
  Severity: normal
  Priority: Unprioritized
 Component: Deployment systems
  Assignee: wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org
  Reporter: bda...@wikimedia.org
CC: g...@wikimedia.org, has...@free.fr, rlan...@gmail.com
   Web browser: ---
   Mobile Platform: ---

The deployment prep scripts checkoutMediaWiki, deleteMediaWiki and
updateWikiversions run the updateBitsBranchPointers script to maintain symlinks
in the bits server's docroot. This script manages the contents of the
static-current and static-stable directories.

In theory static-current should point to the static assets for the most
recently deployed MW version and static-stable should point to the second
oldest branch. Currently the script determines these versions not by reading
wikiversions.{json, cdb} but by finding all the php-* directories in
/usr/local/apache/common-local.

The checkoutMediaWiki is used to provision newly created branches on the deploy
staging server (tin). One would assume that when this operation is complete the
symlinks in static-current should point to the newly created branch as upon the
next cluster sync (scap) that new branch will be the most current version of MW
deployed. It turns out however that since this operation is performed in the
staging directory (/a/common) rather than the deploy directory
(/usr/local/apache/common-local) updateBitsBranchPointers will select the
branch that was provisioned in the last branch deploy cycle rather than the in
progress deploy cycle.

At the moment I can't link to a commit in operations/mediawiki-config.git
showing this mistake in action as separate bug that was recently fixed [0] in
updateBitsBranchPointers has prevented the symlinks for static-{current,stable}
from being updated at all since the 1.23wmf10 branch was deployed.

[Bug 45514] ResourceLoader: Implement support for Source Maps

No.

Firstly, the version number we have now would be more than enough for that
purpose. The reason cached HTML is getting newer resources is because we
explicitly *don't* embed version numbers or hashes of any kind in the HTML.

That is not a bug but a feature (or bug fix) by design in the core of how
ResourceLoader did what old $wgStyleVersion did wrong.

That is... very strange :-/ Incorrect URL and the link back to the board is
wrong.
