yes, good point, and while checking this I found a problem.

it turns out that up to now I dont have the full history, I have modified
the extractor to pull the full version. For the other articles, I dont have
the full history.

[Wikimedia-l] FDC Nominations are open

Hi, everyone.

As you probably know, we have been discussing the creation of a new Funds
Dissemination Committee (FDC)[1] across the movement for several months
now, following the board resolution[2].

Now is a good time to start collecting potential nominees to serve on the
future FDC, as we hope to select members by late August, and to have a
working committee some time in September.  Following the second Advisory
Group meeting[3], the draft proposal[4] is coming along, and you can read
it to get an idea of what the FDC will be tasked with, and what kind of
work and background are expected of its volunteer members.

==Why you'd want to volunteer with the FDC==

* you will be reviewing proposals and making recommendations about the
effective spending of millions of dollars, shaping the direction of impact
of a significant portion of our movement's financial resources.
* your decision-making will be supported by professional staff tasked with
a lot of the decision-supporting information gathering, summarizing, etc.
* you will gain valuable experience in grant-making, project evaluation,
and planning on a global and multi-cultural level.
* you will be working with 8 other great and dedicated individuals from
across the movement.

==Why you might not want to volunteer with the FDC==

* The FDC will commit to, and enforce, a high standard of participation,
and you may not be ready to seriously commit to a high level of
participation for at least two years.
* The FDC's work will be conducted in English, and even with maximal
support and summarization from staff, you will be required to read a lot of
text in English, and to make your contributions in English.
* You don't meet the membership criteria[5], or you're confident other
candidates are better qualified or positioned to serve on the committee.

If you're interested in serving on the future FDC, please add your name to
the nominations page[6].  You will be contacted shortly and asked to make a
statement.

In theory, yes. However, if you're fetching page dumps conforming to the schema 
at
http://www.mediawiki.org/xml/export-0.6/ 
http://www.mediawiki.org/xml/export-0.6.xsd

to some extent you've already got all the information anyway. It *almost* takes 
more work
to filter out just the authors. :-P

If you're getting page data in some different format, sure. :-)

This has been debated numerous times; to what extent does the attribution
have to relate to the exact contribution of each author.

A list of authors has been considered acceptable in the past (including
on-wiki).

You are very concientious, and normally this would indeed be adequate (not 
perfect,

page history. One can follow the chain from the copy back to the wikipedia 
original
back to the page history and voila, more than you ever wanted to know.

The problem with deleted/hidden articles on en.wp is that the history 
information
is also deleted/hidden; and therefore the attribution chain is broken.

Attribution information is important for legal and open content reasons of
course.

Is it possible to keep a copy of page history somewhere also?

I know the mediawiki export/import functions support this, and work 
via GET request.

What with XS4ALL (my ISP) now also offering IPv6 out-of-the-box, there's 
at least one extra IPv6 anon on en.wp. ;-)


I noticed that my current IPv6 address appears to be assigned
dynamically by XS4ALL. I can probably get static if I choose it. But the
dynamic assignment option does alleviate some people's privacy
concerns, right?

Hi there,
I am still waiting for some ok to install it on toolserver, the source is
open, you can run it as well. I dont plan on going for other wikis until i
get one down perfect.
In terms of license, i am just using a template for that, I have not
thought about gfdl much but I dont want to change the license, just make
the data available,

Great idea, do you plan to extend it to other wikis?

Also, I see that you only make the content available as CCBYSA, which
might be a problem if someone decided to use the deleted content back
into Wikipedia (well, not so much a problem as a complication for
reusers). Perhaps you could consider releasing the content also unde
GFDL where it applies?
