RE: [WIRELESS-LAN] Site Survey software

2019-08-21 Thread Lee H Badman
In my opinion, people don’t give iBwave a fair shake. It does have some nice
features that Ekahau doesn’t, and I see a lot of misconceptions about the
price. I am an Ekahau customer from almost the day the company existed, but at
the same time I have done independent reviews of iBwave and do recommend
putting the two head-to-head to see what works and feels better for your
specific needs.

FWIW.

We use Ekahau with the SideKick , it’s much better than the regular NICs. I
use the MS Surface Book but Pros work really good too. AirMagnet was good a
few years ago but they have derailed.

The software most predominant in the industry is from Ekahau. Most of us that
do site surveys professionally use an Ekahau sidekick (hardware) in conjunction
with the software.

If you decide to purchase it feel free to reach out to me. A friend of mine is
a reseller for ekahau and treads people quite fairly.

RE: [WIRELESS-LAN] Site Survey software

2019-08-21 Thread Lee H Badman
Second GT’s comments, but would also suggest looking at iBwave. Unfortunately,
the AirMagnet survey product is somewhat stagnated but was awesome when kept
current. And… TamoSoft is in the game as well. That’s pretty much the market at
this point.

RE: [WIRELESS-LAN] Site Survey Software

2006-05-05 Thread David Gillett

  I've been trying
out the WiSpy (from ThinkGeek).  I'm not so impressed with the display
(whaddaya want for cheap!), but it allows me to investigate interference sources
that are not Wi-Fi.
  I find NetStumbler
very convenient for tracking down rogues, at least until our widespread coverage
is deployed.

I've always used a Cisco a/b/g card with the site survey tool that
comes with it, either on a laptop or iPAQ.  It gives signal strength,
noise level, and signal-to-noise ratio.  Some will tell you this might
not be the best way to do it, but it has worked for our purposes.  I
usually couple this with a web-based bandwidth tester to see what kind of
actual bandwidth I get at the places I take my readings.

Site survey as in:

1. Real time read out of all signal strength seen a single point of
time.

2. Heat maps showing a the coverage pattern of 802.11 on a given floor
plan.
