You don’t need to wait for the Wildlife Drive to open! There are thousands of waterbirds (ducks, swans, cranes) in readily accessible areas of the entire Montezuma Complex. Check Knox/Marsellus Marsh (MNWR) and Carncross, Morgan, and Vay Dyne Spoor Roads in Savannah. Bob McGuire > On Mar 21,

[cayugabirds-l] Wildlife Drive Whimbrels & more

Sunday morning about 9 AM found 2 Whimbrel, 1 Ruddy Turnstone, & 7 Black-bellied Plovers in the open area just before the eagle sculpture on Montezuma's wildlife drive. There were also semi-palmated plovers and a few of sandpipers (mostly least?). Originally thought there might be a couple Am.

All, A few more details and highlights from a day at Montezuma. We were unable to find the reported Sedge Wren at Carncross. Shorebirds continue there in modest numbers (compared to the Main Pool), with about 50 Dunlin, 1 Semipalmated Sandpiper, Semipalmated Plovers and Least Sandpipers, and two

The Montezuma wildlife drive is open up to the spillway. The water is all frozen. There were gulls sitting on the ice as well as two juvenile Bald Eagles. Other Bald Eagles were sitting on the far side of the river silhouetted by the sun. I also spotted a Harrier checking out the marsh.
