IME, if a lens has been sitting awhile, the contacts oxidize and the simple act
of mounting and unmounting it a couple of times cleans the contacts enough that
it works, if it doesn't, a typing eraser usually does! (It works for the flash
contacts that subtly corrode and leave you without E-TT
