I've discovered the method used by FFmpeg to assign maps, and it seems that it could easily be
improved and that it's potentially a big deal.
My specimens are VOBs, reported by FFprobe.
For VTS_02_1.VOB, FFmpeg assigns streams as follows:

I originally had a video with
0:0 = video
0:1 = commentary
0:2 = dialog
0:3 =subtitles
Of course, the commentary was the default audio.
I wanted to switch 0:1 & 0:2
ffmpeg -i SOURCE -map 0:0 -map 0:2 -map 0:1 -map 0:3 -codec copy TARGET
That succeeded...
0:0 = video
0:1 = dialog

When done, PTS has not changed -- does not start at zero. I've tried

"buffer underflow". Why underflow? It's not a real time process.

up PTSs/DTSs/time_base for video, audio, subtitles, and chapters
Audio is way out of sync. Video freezes.

I'm trying to remux MKV as MP4. In the process, I want to remove the
rounding errors that were introduced by MKV so that the video is
24/1.001fps CFR once again with proper PTSs & DTSs and 1/9 time

I'm getting some 'wandering' PTSs in the target video.
The target's PTSs are all in the form 'N*1001', but they go up and down as
though 'N' goes up and down.

I have problems with stream 0:2 (the subtitles). The problem ruins to-SRT conversions later in the
work-flow. Also, stream 0:2 winds up with no duration and that screws up concatenations.
A typical notice is "DTS discontinuity in stream 2: packet 12 with DTS
12859568".
