I think you have completed the installation correctly. Since you also
obtained a key from Alpha Vantage you should be able to use their service
to download prices if they provide the ones that you want. For some stock
quotes you may get better results using one of the other services that

I would be willing to bet that you never automatically got the original
date on any copy. When I use the copy transaction feature in previous
releases of GnuCash up to 3.8 it always asks for the date and defaults to
today if not changed.

When you open the file you are probably given a warning that the file is
already open. That can happen if it is not closed properly before your

As David suggested, you can assign values to either increase or decrease
then they will either import correctly or opposite. Then choose whatever
works correctly.

I could mention that I am using the same build of GnuCash but I am
currently running it in LinuxLite which also identifies itself as Ubuntu
20.04.2 LTS when updating software.

Maybe your message title is throwing us off. If you want to have Gnucash
create new accounts on the fly during the import, that is almost possible
except that it would create a huge mess of accounts that were not properly
assigned to valid top level accounts (asset, liability, income, expense

Actually, at one brokerage house the cash actually gets swept into a
special type of bank account rather than a MMF. In GnuCash I have set up a
bank sub-account in those brokerage accounts that appear listed with the
stock accounts in the reports.

I think there was a time early in the 3.x release series where stock prices
were displayed as fraction s but later there was a way to display as
decimal which we find easier to read.
