I had the exact same issue when I upgraded to 4.4.0-32 from 4.4.0-31.
Not even a distro upgrade, just a regular software update that required

new version with a frigged version string so I'm sure that it is the
correct test kernel. I should have added a unique version string in the
first place.

System beep is gone again. As for my post above (#13) it worked for that
one time only, but stopped upon the next system reset.

I just tried an install with the 16.04.01 image and I'm seeing the same
issue.
I tried adding the nouveau.modset=0 parameter without much luck, but
it's possible I'm just setting it in the wrong way. Here is what I
tried.
1) When the install grub menu appears the default "try ubuntu..." option

I think the issues are caused by mixing linux-signed with -image with
the same ABI version, so try uninstalling linux-signed-* and see if you
still get these
