MB dealer flex discs last years and years, in my experience. That's why I only
buy suspension and drive line rubber from the dealer, anything else is a false
economy.

I suspect they are Kevlar re-inforced, similar to tire sidewalls. Not worth

Are these flex disc things really that hard to reverse engineer? Buy some
proper durometer liquid rubber, put some sort of reinforcement mat in
there, fill it up, hit it with the detail sander to shake the bubbles out

If it's Lemförder that's great, because I've had a heck of a time finding
their stuff any more. It seems like there's less and less you can find under
their name as time goes on.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not a parts snob. If I can get a Lemförder part instead

Dan, the Price is $152 per from the dealer vs. $47 elsewhere for the flex
disks. For the center assembly it's $150 vs. $27 (!!!) for Febi or Beck
Arnley (Rock Auto). Febi is a decent brand and I am not going to keep the
car forever. There are other cheaper brands I won't touch, e.g. Uro..

Febi/Bilstein is a German company, however, that doesn't mean that's where the

Do not cheap out on rubber parts or you'll be doing this job again in under
five years.
Flex discs from Mercedes aren't that expensive in most cases. Front flex disc
is around $125 from the dealer, I believe. Rear is the same.
Febi and Beck-Arnley will be cheap Chinee stuff.

Was diagnosed as broken center drive shaft support bracket. Also must
replace drive shaft bearing and front and rear flex disks. The flex disks
had been replaced with substandard brand. Are Febi or Beck Arnley decent?
OEM bearing bracket is triple the price of Febi or Beck Arnley ($150 vs.
$50).
Maybe an cv joint going bad?

If Andrew is lucky, just a flex disc is at fault, _AND_ he will get it
fixed prior to catastrophic failure. Flex discs are the weakest link and
require periodic replacement, and as a bonus a bad flex disc can be
determined with a visual inspection.

It's definitely a drive train component that's making noise when
loaded/unloaded from what you describe.
That would be U joints, flex discs and CV joints as far as I can think of.
If you get the back end off the ground so you can turn the drive shaft and rear

Something is wrong with the driveshaft or a half-axle. If you can make the
noise change by weaving side to side, it is a half-axle. If that has no
effect on the noise, then either a flex disc, the center carrier bearing,
or a u-joint is probably the cause.
