The bird was present this morning in the grassy area directly east of Pier 5.
It was actively feeding on the seed heads of the ‘bluestem grass’ in loose
association with two Field Sparrows. Several birders were present including the
discoverer; thank you Heather. Happy New Year to all.

During yesterday’s Orient CBC, we (myself and Brian Kane) observed 4 Harlequin
Ducks (2 adult males, 1 adult female and 1 young male). They were among the
rocks off the point feeding actively. The tide was nearly high at the time of
observation.

Folks:
Down my way (Gainesville, FL) during the doldrums of June (intense heat and
humidity), we have the June Challenge. A friendly county-only competition to
observe the most species. Everyone shares their finds. It is both fun and
interesting and it gets all who participate out in the field
The very cooperative bird was present at its “new” spot as described previously
at least until 2pm. It showed no signs of leaving the area where it was
actively feeding. Enjoy.

I realize this is slightly off topic, however...
I have a very long run of issues of The Kingbird. I want to give them a new
home if that is possible. I believe they are all scanned and available on the
NYSOA website. I am hoping some person or organization wants hard copies.
Thanks.

Folks: I received the first printing as a gift. I went to the book store where
it was purchased and explained the issue. The owner of the store happily
replaced it with a copy of the 2nd printing. Try this method if possible.
