If anyone wants a lightweight distro, it will likely have no package manager in gui form and be arch based in some way... thus, if that's what you would want I would recommend Hyperbola. But its not newbie friendly yet as it doesn't have a gui installer calamares... not yet anyways.

Never connect your laptop to the internet while running any virtual machine that uses proprietary software especially winblows. Though I say the same to ubuntu and linux mint or anything else fishy such as proprietary software.
