problem is solved !!!
to your luck - it is NOT a bug of compiz or of cairo-dock.
it was really because of insufficient graphic-chip support by nvidia-
driver.
I just had again almost cramp because of nvidia-driver - there are 2 different
possibilities of driver

Ubuntu Update Manager hangs when trying to upgrade anything

[SOLVED]
the problem was not really a bug, but finding the solution took up
several hours of research which didn't get me anywhere. finally, i just
blank mindedly right clicked the gnome panel, clicked add to panel
selected notification area, and VOILA! the sought after icon appeared.
that was it.
I had to install these packages manually after installing w3af:
python-scapy
libpython2.7-dev
and when trying to install pybloomfiltermmap with easy_install i got an
error... openssl/evp.h was missing... so i had to get libssl-dev
now the program runs
