The Thunderbird bug has been fixed. It already supported webcal urls,
but had a problem when a webcal url ended with .ics as it did in your
case. That problem is gone now.
Back to the problem: Firefox should open those URLs with thunderbird.

I'm on Ubuntu 20.04 with gnome-calendar 3.36.2 and have the same problem:
Google calendar did not sync.
Then I removed the cache in "~/.cache/evolution/calendar/", and gnome calendar
showed no appointments at all (as expected).
Clicking the "sync now" menu item changed the calendar icon briefly

nextcloud desktop client on Ubuntu 20.04 (which upgraded from 18.04,
which upgraded from 16.04 ... all the way to 10.04). The solution was

I wonder why this was not installed automatically.
Also, the title bars of Firefox , Thunderbird and Slack (Electron
Desktop) are white when using the "Standard" colors, but text editor,
control center + terminal have dark title bars. But this is probably a
different issue.

After upgrading from 12.10 to 13.04, my Macbook Air does not detect my
TV connected via HDMI and the HDMI-Displayport adapter. HDMI worked fine
on 12.10.
dmesg does not show any signs that anything happened at all when I plug
in the HDMI adapter.

2. during installation: manual partitioning, 4gib ext4 for /, no other partition
3. after installation: run gparted, create new partition on the rest of the
disk
Hm. While the 60s delay was there, it is not anymore on the 2nd boot.

I needed to follow the iso-on-harddisk installation method because my
macbook air 4,2 does not boot from removable usb drives.
Following teague-wisc's instructions worked for me.

Running pavucontrol from the terminal exposes a number of warnings when
the locale is de_DE.UTF-8:

$ pavucontrol
