I think this happened when I tried to do security updates with aptitude.
It probably would not have happened had I done the other upgrades at the

I'm getting this same problem, but with one difference: my icons are all

The thing is, I don't know if it's as simple as a nouveau bug for me.
It had been working properly for months. I went away for vacation for
ten days, wi

Believe me -- I've been trying. I think it's just an effect of having a lot
of tabs open for a long time. I know that's not very helpful. If I figure
it out, I'll post here.

Yes, definitely. Happened again last night.
Sent from John's Steve Jobs device. Please forgive any typos.

It usually takes a few hours of web browser use and clicking to reproduce
this.

Yes. However, it may be a Chrome problem. I have since discovered that
if I issue a `killall -9` to Chrome, the ghost context menus will go
away.

I'm using 11.10 and I still have this problem. The -graphicssystem
raster workaround works for me, but I also seem to get this bug in
gedit.

I experienced this problem in earlier versions of Ubuntu primarily when
my console windows were really large. If I made them smaller, the CPU

I activated the screensaver, and when I unlocked again, my mouse would

I can get around this by using the WACOM stylus (it's a tablet). This

I believe I may have the same issue, in Oneiric. When the mouse stops
working, I can still use my Wacom tablet pen to move the cursor, but the
touchpad is non-responsive. Keyboard functions just fine.

My apologies, that was foolish. I am in fact using Atheros.

Subsystem: Fujitsu Limited. Device 139c
Flags: bus master, fast devsel, latency 0, IRQ 18

I have the exact same problem, but am not using Atheros wireless:

For me, problem was solved by removing the ATA hard disk, so I can no

Has anyone solved this? I'm having the same problem. It started today
when I rebooted, probably due to some software upgrade (not kernel--
using earlier kernels does not help).

I can, somewhat. I get this error with a lot of different URLs, but the
worst is gmail.com:
$ /usr/lib/firefox-3.0/firefox --verbose --sync
The program 'firefox' received an X Window System error.
This probably reflects a bug in the program.
The error was 'BadMatch (invalid parameter attributes)'.
Philippe,
Does KDE 4.0 work for you? This bug was originally about KDE 4.0, but it
seems to have been fixed.
Using:
dbus 1.1.20-1ubuntu2
dbus-x11 1.1.20-1ubuntu2
hal 0.5.11~rc2-ubuntu8.1
kubuntu-kde4-desktop 0.14
libdbus-1-3 1.1.20-1ubuntu2
linux-headers-generic 2.6.24.19.21
kde4-core 3.3
kwin-kd
In that case, I'd suggest you check elsewhere. You might check
permissions of your user-specific configuration stuff, like .kde and
.kde4 and .kde4.1 if there is one, and .ICEauthority, .Xauthority,
.DCOPserver*, etc.
I don't think it's the same bug that you're describing.

Okay, I've installed GDM and tried starting KDE that way. It fails as
well, same error message. GDM also gives me the option of viewing
.xsession-errors, and when I choose that option, THAT fails as well--

Oh, and using Hardy Heron (kubuntu-8.04-kde4.04-x86). It happens on every
machine I install on. Here are the video cards for two of them:

I've done a bit more troubleshooting, and narrowed the problem down
some. I think it has to do with the order system services are started
relative to PAM, or some permissions setting within PAM. Here's why:
In startkde, there is a section that begins with:
# D-Bus autolaunch is broken
if test -z "
My experience is the same as Edsoncv; I also authenticate using LDAP. I
tried removing .kde*, .qt*, and .ICEauthority, but none of these things
helped. Pretty frustrating.
