An even better setup would be if it could test the password the user

disabling ppdev didn't help in my case. On my canon LiDE25 9plustek, it

Same here.
This functionality is highly exposed. Anyone who wants to test a
microphone will use the audio-recorder. So any bugs here make Ubuntu

As a precaution, I ran:
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
from the console after the update tool crashed, but before I rebooted. It
finished upgrading only one package (console-setup), and after a reboot, all
was fine for me, too. Not sure if the apt-get dist-upgrade was even needed
I saw some updates come through, so tried this again. Now, I get this
error:
