Yes, I have now tested the proposed fix on two separate fresh
installations of cosmic. One HP and one Lenovo laptop. In both cases
they show a weird multi-stop gradient after the fix is installed. Looks
like the colour goes up-down-up-down instead of just down.

Thanks for the report Jeff. I can reliably observe the problem in a bionic VM.
I also tested the snap in the candidate channel (based on core18), and there
are also issues with the custom rendering of the window title bar and borders,
although they are different (only the close button is visible,

Our user have huge printing job to do in the next week(November 20). So, they
are eagerly want to know that can we offer them an workaround(an fixed solution
would be best) for this slowdown problem.

I even set up a PPA where a patched version of qt is available.
18.10 has no such issue, I don't use 16.10 now.

After my laptop worked fine yesterday for the whole day, it crashed
again a few minutes ago. I have been using it for about 1.5h and the
open programs where gnome-shell, thunderbird, firefox and gnome-
terminal. It froze while browsing gitlab.com. It didn't respond to
MagicSysRq keys.
The log file
#17 works. In order to keep the package manager from updating the
package to the broken version it helps to run "sudo apt-mark hold ttf-
mscorefonts-installer" after.

I have updated to A16 and so far no freezes, although it's still not
uncommon for these to stop happening for a while and then return.
