Upon upgrading to natty my indicator applets disappeared and could not
be re-added (it was missing from the Add to panel list).

actually fixed the problem:

I have discovered the problem as to why these kernels won't add. update-
grub won't add Ubuntu kernels to the menu.lst when running on an
upstream kernel. If I manually add the kernel to the list, boot into it,
and run update-grub on an Ubuntu kernel, each image adds to the list
fine using
This is a general libvte issue. Try this:

The last seven comments have been of little use and are frankly a waste
