(313) An email-only PLURkids announcement
Fellow 313 listmembers, My apologies for the mass cross-post. This is email promoted ONLY. There will be no flyers, only email and word of mouth. Also, I am aware of the techno focus of this list, but have enjoyed following many house-related threads as well. To that end, I feel justified in posting this email. If you do not enjoy house music, stop reading now and move on :) Thanks! - PLURkids Productions is proud to announce a one-time only club night, dedicated to HOUSE music, and launching the nationwide release of Steven Sacks' new mix CD. Details are as follows: PLURkids Club Night Friday, February 4th, 2000, 9pm to 2am With DJ's: Steven Sacks (Super Duper House Collective, San Francisco, Hum, ATL) *** Extended Set *** Those of you who attended Clavius Bass back in June, or saw him take the decks after DJ Sneak and Carl Craig at Come Together in December, will recall this DJ, known for long, multiple-record mixes of West-Coast house. This is not a DJ that connects a bunch of records with mixes; he is a DJ that connects a bunch of mixes with records. Steven has chosen Detroit to launch the nationwide release of his new mix CD, and we are delighted to be his hosts. Adam Caruso (PLURkids, Detroit) We have watched Adam mold his own style since 1994, and into 1998, when he was on San Francisco's own A.M. Crew label. In 1999, we convinced him to be a PLURkids DJ - come see why. Jonathan Voigt (UM Housing Authority, Ann Arbor) After much hype from others, we gave this new DJ a listen, and are glad to put the PLURkids stamp of approval on his Mark Farina inspired track selection. Hear and see what everyone's been talking about. Location/Cost: --- Cloud 9 8534 Conant, Hamtramck 313.923. ADMISSION WILL BE $5.00 ALL NIGHT. Sorry, there will be no guestlist for this event. Capacity is limited to 150 people, so we strongly suggest you come early! Also, all attendees will receive discounted admission to the Trancended party happening on the same night, so they can head over there afterwards. We'd like to show our support for one of the new promoters tying to do right by Detroit. Re: (313) mike grant
I have to agree wholeheartedly, this is one of my favourite house records purely because 'Sunlight' is so incredible. Deep emotional synths forceful subterannean bass sounds... i had a melodramatic review of it up on http://dissonance.space.net.au/ but the past issues are temporarily down. I'll let you know when they are back up. The next issue to go up has a full interview and feature on mike grant and we talk a little about this track. Definitely buy it if you can... josh The track "Sunshine" off that record is fantastic. It's the only one I play, but it alone is worth buying the 12" for. It's deep, very bassy...and has gorgeous synth washes that come in after a brief intro. Highly recommended. __ Get Your Private, Free Email at http://www.hotmail.com
Re: (313) mike grant
greetings, I am going to have to second what BVL has to say. I do not particlularly care for the a-side, it is a bit housey, good, but nothing really amazing. However, the B-side is off the hook. I am going to have to put my foot down and say that that "Rest in Peace My Brother" is my favorite cut off this record. It is a non-four on the floor track, that reminds me in a way of a primitive Psyche/BFC era Carl Craig with rhymic elements that remind me of the Mood EP by MonoJunk. This is very much a "current" track. I remember Mike telling me about a friend of his being shot in the studio during a robbery, perhaps this is some reference to that incident. The A2, Sunlight, is an increbible track as well. It is not quite as moody as "Rest" but it is a floor track. Its a smooth 808 kick, with a simple bassline, with percussion elements that are very reminescent of the Mood EP on Plug Research. The strings on this track make it, along with these abstract lead lines that work very well. It is a deep soulful techno track, this is what people _should_ think of when you say techno. Bill is right, this record is fantastic, I highly reccomend it. I just wish that the Moods and Grooves records were more in this vein rather than on the Detroit House tip. Either way, this is a label worth looking into, and I reccomend their records highly. Take care, Mike Taylor William VanLoo wrote: > > The track "Sunshine" off that record is fantastic. Very nice record fully filled with classic club techno sounds. Side a hosts Hypnotize in two versions, despite of the overused sample, gorgeous beats and surreal synth loops make it a very nice track. Side b opens with a very nice ambient piece in best Detroit-manner. Sunlight is the finest track of this ep. Think of Theo Parrish and Octave One teaming up, delivering this lush warm and smooth nice club/techno/house track. (313) anti-auto show (Jan 22)
***Anti-Auto Show to Close-Out with Evening of Electronic Music January 22*** ***Featuring Ectomorph, W-Vibe, and Automan*** For the third year running, the North American International Anti-Auto Show is providing an alternative view of the vehicular culture that catalyzed both the spectacular rise and the astronomical decline of Detroit. Running from January 14 through January 23 at detroit contemporary, concurrent with the ultra-corporate North American International Auto Show, the Anti-Auto Show affords artists, musicians, poets, filmmakers, and actors the opportunity to present a more balanced look at the consequences of our society's auto-dependence. In some circles, Detroit is better-known as "Techno City" than its more famous moniker "The Motor City." It thus seems appropriate for the Anti-Auto Show to end its run at detroit contemporary with an electronic music blowout beginning at 9:00 p.m. on January 22. Special guests Ectomorph (Interdimensional Transmissions), the W-Vibe, and Automan will be demonstrating the experimental and influential sound of Detroit. Please join us, and see how well good music and alternative forms of transportation go together. The Essentials: Proceeds from the cover charge of $5 will benefit a seven-county Southeast Michigan Bike Trail Network. Detroit contemporary is located at 5141 Rosa Parks Boulevard in Detroit. Call 313-898-4ART for directions. For more information on the Anti-Auto Show, call 313-832-4532 or visit www.detroitcontemporary.com and http://www.metrotimes.com/20/15/Features/artPardon.htm. This evening of electronic music is brought to you by Motormouth, and will be audio-cast live at www.theplayground.com. (313) In this world...
Hi all, In this world, there are dj's, and there are DEE JAYS. Last saturday night at a club called Lush in Atlanta, I saw a DEE JAY. His name is Steven Sacks. We recorded his set before a live audience that was absolutely screaming. These people are true house heads. They didn't scream at the break, they screamed at the _mix_ . And this wasn't a party, either. It was an afterhours club, with the varied audience that results. There were all kinds of people, all adults, and very few that were visibly on drugs. The resulting set has been remastered and the first 80 minutes is Steven's new nationwide-released mix CD. It'll be ready for production in a few weeks, and Steven has asked PLURkids to host the launch. I'll send out a separate email detailing the event shortly. All people interested in advance copies, stay tuned for further details. bleed wrote: Burden announced today that his label, 430 West records, will take the reigns to release a compact disc version of Rolando's hit record, "Knights of the Jaguar". The compact disc will be more widely available in major retailers across Europe and North America, featuring the original "Jaguar" track, previously unreleased DJ Rolando cuts and remixes of "Jaguar" by producers Jeff Mills, Mad Mike and Octave One. This is the way to go... Rather than play the 'majors' games of lawyers'n'emails, get the real music (and the real issue) out there.
