-Original Message- From: Brian Dillard [EMAIL PROTECTED] b) anybody ever heard of a richie hawtin track called xxx that featured on a vinyl comp called something like brand x vol. 1? (i don't have the record in front of me). it's not listed on his official discography at m-nus.com and i've never heard of it before. the cartridge on my lone 1200 is broken so I haven't even listened to it yet. brandx was dj Moneypenny from NY,very important dj in the early days of techno, brandx was kind of a newsletter acompanied by tape she used to do back in the late 90's,and was kind of a real important thing to have ,back in the day were very few ppl were getting promos and stuff .That was nearly the only way of getting to hear new trax b4 they came out,i think she also ran the Experimental Vortex labels out of NY,and she gave Damon Wild his first break on her Chapter1- unleash the groove, rekid on stricly, also had something to do with Blackdog as she getts thanked on the Blackdog ep(bd003),also from memory i think she said something in an inreview about not liking 313 music ;) and being in love with FDW(v old early Frontpage magazine). the record you bought came out straight after Ritchie did the FU Substance Abuse rekids and is very similer in style unfortunatly that was the only good track there unles you like the early trance stuff by FDW,sven van Hees etc , i think that was the first track he did esp for a compilation!(btw the first remix he did was for Ian Pooley's space Cube- Pure tendency which was the first Force Inc record(tni 001) and borrowed in style from FU as well) e,r
(313) ortofon
Hi, Sorry for the cross-post and non-content (this will be the last for a while) but I'm looking for a store online to get a pair of Ortofon cartridges for cheap... I've seen the silvers go for as low as $89.99 + 1 spare stylus, but I'm sure I can get cheaper. Also, would anyone with experience recommend any particular ortofon model over another? The tracks are right, but The Journey and Never on Sunday should be credited to MK and Aquatic is by Open House featuring Placid Angels. One of the best comps out there. It's an airy sounding funky track with all the kraftwerk ingredients (high Q snare, vocoder voices). I've heard someone mention that there's a whole new album coming out. Has it been released yet ? Speaking of Kraftwerk... Karl Bartos has just remixed 'Little Computer People' (the track that Anthony Rother re-made). It's out now on PSI49NET 004. But there was a rumour about them doing a 'Kraftwerk presents' where they hook up with US rappers like Foxy Brown, Juvenile, Kid Rock and some names I forgot, kinda re-doing the classics for the US. Just got this on white label from HardWax in Germany. It's the shit! A great place to start would be www.submerge.com plenty of RA samples of the latest in Detroit techno. If you like UR be sure to check out Jaguar DJ Rolando a.k.a. The Aztec Mystic. I was wondering if there are new things on Metroplex, www.submerge.com has RA samples of the last 5 Metroplex releases, Metroplex seems to be releasing a wide variety of genre these days. and also if there are new things by Drexciya, I heard the Lp on Tresor and thought it was Bad. Boot? why would that be necessary? I just saw a stack of them (the legit release) at Recordtime this past weekend on the Electra label. I didnt get around to listening to it though, so I have no idea what the record sounds like. But with current major label releases why on earth would any think a boot leg was needed? I quite liked most of the stuff on there, particularly the first few songs. Metroplex's release by Gerald Mitchell, 'Celestial Highways' should be held in the same high regard as Knights of the Jaguar. What the hell is Lavelle smoking anyway? Is he even at Mo' Wax anymore? I'm pretty sure he was on his way out, but maybe some of the releases he supervised are still trickling out. I think he went to XL Recordings or to a new label, leaving Mo' Wax basically a corporate shill... .John.

Re: (313) new kraftwerk; not another sony; syntax
SEAN The Kraftwerk track Expo 2000 is dubby electronic - not quite the same electro-proto-techno of old. In this case, the bootlegger (read: remixer) is simply putting a techno/dancefloor face on the new track. This doesn't mean it's any good tho! (BTW - How are things Sean? Interested in coming back to IC sometime? Where's that new album?!?) ASKEW The remixer has ties to many artists in Germany and New York, and furthermore, it is my understanding that the boot is in a *small* run by people respectful of artists' rights. There will be one source worldwide to find this particular record. This is not another Sony/UR situation. Although I do not know the remixer personally, I am familiar with his work. And since I haven't heard the remix yet I can't vouch for it being any good. We'll see in a couple of weeks when it come back from the plant. SYNTAX Speaking of Sony/UR/Jaguar, please write to Syntax Distribution and encourage them to remove Type - Jaguar from their stock. I speak for (at least!) a few listmembers who were disappointed to see Syntax first send out a long mail detailing the copyright situation, only to find the Sony record in question added to their stock list 3 weeks later!! Surprisingly, Watts has not picked the cover up - in fact they are distributing Rolondo's Jaguar this week. Cheers to that, at least.
