RE: [313] politics, economics, and djs
And you'd be correct... I'd say that a large majority of DJ's and Producers that who depend on this for their livelihoods don't have such insurance. Hawtin / Acquaviva / Metropolis track id
Hi everybody - Hawtin Acquaviva yesterday were really great - Hawtin was supposed to arrive @ 18h00, @19h30 there was still nobody... does anybody know what happened to those two After that, @20h30 was the Mills version of Metropolis, which I did not see either because all tickets were sold two days before... but while we were waiting, some tape/CD was playing - a great mix of musique concrête (sounds of motors, baby crying, etc) and techno - including a great tribal thing. At the beginning, there is a woman talking about walking and falling - I would love to know the title either of the mix or of the track with the woman's voice ? Gwendal
Re: [313] Dark House Music label (Trackhead Series) Information?
I think this label is run jointly by a couple of Londoners, Addy (just left Phuturetrax to join Undercover Music Group) and Terry Mitchell, who also produces and DJs and has been a techno promoter in London for years. You should be able to contact Addy via [EMAIL PROTECTED] Most of the labels releases are 4-artist, 4-track affairs, usually on the harder side. They come along every 2/3 months. The article is surprisingly decent considering its in DJ, the guy who wrote it almost apologizes for having it published in a major magazine, which I found amusing. One of the questions that was asked to all the people who were interviewed was something like what is your relationship to Detroit and the answers are interesting. Overload Magazine (a UK Techno magazine) version 2.0 (May 2000) has a two-page interview with Oliver Ho which is rather good. This magazine can be obtained for free (ie only shipping costs) from Juno Records (www.juno.co.uk), and there should be even more info about Ho (and many others techno musicians) at Overload's web site - www.overloadmedia.co.uk. -- crisk ._ [EMAIL PROTECTED] ._/-==\\\ _ |_.-`---^-._ Sexually tilted quote from STAR WARS: 6. Rob Hood's Minimal nation - M-P315
I just got this the other day.i was wondering what year it was released and if this is a typical example of Hood's repertiore thanks fab
Re: [313] Rob Hood's Minimal nation - M-P315
Minimal Nation was originally released in 94 on Axis Records (ax-007). It was very typical of Hood at the time. He seemed to continue this Hood style through most of the first Mplant records (With the exception of the first Monobox release and the Hardwax records, even though the Hardwax stuff reminds me of 'The Pace' which is one of the original tracks from Minimal Nation, that has been replaced by Sleep Cycles and Grey Move). It wasn't til after the Puppet Master Release on Mplant (MP307) that Hood started to sway from this style. The Floorplan release on Drama (hip hop samples and techno together). The following Monobox release, began to showcase a new style for Hood, taking the string element from tracks like 'Stradavarius', and adding more layers to it, Hood took his bleepy smooth style to another level, making tracks into song structures. To me this is where Hood went from creating sterile structures, to soulful techno (with the exception of the first Monobox release which has more sad soulfulness than most international (read: not Detroit) house these days). I'm sure there's alot more to Hood's history that I'm not aware of. I've only really followed his productions since the beginning of Mplant, and I'm sure there is some influence from Nightmare World Vol.1 that I am surely missing since I haven't had a copy of it in 4 years. If anyone cares to fill in or dispute any points I am a willing participant to any argument or information you all wish to share. Monobox
At first I thought it might be someone else because it didn't fit Hood's style at the time (Realm was MP308) just after the Puppet Master release. We had Rob come play in Toronto just after this and I asked him. He said it was him. Here's the info from the Sonic Groove DB. Label: M-Plant (Detroit, USA) M-P 311 Title: Downtown Artist: Monobox Detroit, USA Produced by: Robert Hood Released: 1997 Configuration: vinyl 12 Tracks: Untitled 1-2 Description: Rob Hood returns to give you 2 tracks of deep monotone minimal techno Other than talking to Rob (he was pretty tired and might not have heard me correctly, we were pretty out of it at 7am), this is my only inkling as to who is behind the monobox release, though it is popular belief here in Toronto that this is in fact Rob Hood (this record gets played as much as Mills records do here).
