I've always watched the Kompakt/Perlon/Playhouse/Trapez, whatever/etc scenes with a bit of admiration and a bit of caution/distance (obviously that's an unfair lumping, but you get what I'm on about). However, the recent Micael Mayer mixes have been seriously wicked. Who the hell else is busting out Air Liquid's 'If there was no gravity', AND making it work really well! His recent mixes have pulled us through a number of after parties in recent months. I'm quite gutted I missed his Fabric set, b/c I heard it was the best thing since sliced bread, and where would a cheese toastie be without *that*? :) Tristan === http://www.phonopsia.co.uk [EMAIL PROTECTED]

I haven't ordered from them since living abroad, but they hooked me up while in the states. Very good with correcting any errors in very large orders as well. Don't think I ever had any trouble with them. Re: (313) Searchable Archives
f course the issue that raises is exposing everyone's email addresses to spammers. There's the old name AT service DOT com replacement, but I'm still chewing on that one. just remove the mail addresses. simple as that. (for future archives, take a look at http://www.mail-archive.com) http://www.mail-archive.com/faq.html#newlist *nod* to that. That was going to be my suggestion as well. You can even forward all the old archives to mail-archive.com, so everything is available. Once its there, it'll be all good. :-D Just speaking for Hyperreal, here, Brian Behlendorf has written up our policy about this somewhere. The gist of it is that we are just providing this general service that's not unlike any other of its kind, and there are limits to our liability as far as the public redistribution of messages that get posted. Posting to a public mailing list implies consent to redistribution of your message to the other addresses on the list, and there's no way for any of us to know whether these recipient addresses are human beings with benign intentions, address-harvesting robots working for spammers, or archiving services that may or may not have the intelligence to obscure raw addresses and not misrepresent any content as their own. We have found that spammers can have scoured our raw archives for email addresses. This has been curbed quite a bit by the simple act of gzipping the mbox files at the end of each month. We're also blocking a lot of HTTP crawlers, but mainly just by IP address and their self-reported User-Agent string, not by any automated means. List admins control their own list archives, so they can further restrict access if they want to, e.g. by setting up password protection or something (though I don't think anyone's actually doing this). We don't care if people set up their own archives, in fact we encourage it, since it's a laborious, resource-hogging process (it triples the size of the archives to pre-generate HTML for every message, invites tons of web traffic as crawlers hit all those pages, and generating threaded index databases can take *weeks* of CPU time) that I've found time time again is more trouble than it's worth to do for all of our lists, using the tools that are currently available for prettifying archives. If you do set one up, in HTMLized messages, replacing @ with #64; (or %40 in a mailto URL) is still surprisingly effective at hiding addresses, so make sure your system at least has this or something comparable. I would also be wary of services like mail-archive.com. For a time, there was a similar free, low-key service that was called FindMail. They subscribed their archiving robot to some of our lists and provided free web interfaces to them. FindMail eventually went commercial and changed its name to eGroups. Then they got bought out and folded into Yahoo. Their service went downhill through this process and now they're using archived messages to sell ads, which I think is of questionable ethics. Food for thought. -Mike

RE: (313) Searchable Archives
I was reading the FAQ on the mail archives site and noticed this in the Will this service work for my list section: We do not archive lists whose name does not begin with a letter. We require that the name of the list be present somewhere in the email headers. Almost all mailing lists do this automatically. For example, when people send mail to the list [EMAIL PROTECTED], the name of the list ([EMAIL PROTECTED]) shows up prominently in the To: header as well as other places. A few lists do funny tricks with email headers, and try to hide the name of the list. Spammers are notorious for forging and hiding headers. Sometimes even legitimate lists will try to hide the listname. This is most common when the list is for one-to-many communications, as opposed to many-to-many communications. Any list that mangles email headers to hide its name is incompatible with the service and will not be archived. -- We do not archive lists whose name does not begin with a letter. -- We've found that list names beginning with numbers or unusual punctuation are almost always noise (unsolicited commercial email or spam.) We do not archive any lists originating at YahooGroups, for a variety of reasons. (313) Track id - Delsin mix (10 minutes in)
What's the track about 10 minutes in, that sounds like a mutant cross between New Order and Giorgio Moroder? A Bernard Summer/Dicken/Albrecht-like voice intones Total reaction (or something phonetically similar) and the music is very New Order-esque (but not quite). I quite liked that one ... I looked at the track listing but track #3 isn't identified. The names of tracks #2 and #4 didn't look like they were likely candidates ... - Greg

Sounds like Aroy Dee - Kiss (NWAQ) Killer record - and the flip ('The Planets') is even better. My joint favourite techno record of 2003 along with the Dan Curtin on Down Low... Cheers, Tom

sorry, half assed info as per usual. Tom got it though and yeah, I second that, The Planets is just a killer track. infact, pretty much all those MOS things are dope. deffo one of my favourite artists of current times, without a shadow of doubt. _ - End of message text This e-mail is sent by the above named in their individual, non-business capacity and is not on behalf of PricewaterhouseCoopers. RE: (313) er techno
yeah, even though i feel like i keep on saying it, starfighterz and yotoko are freakin' awesome. and in a similar vein, alex cortex on ann aimee. on a related note, i'm totally loving this detroit/techno hip-hop that's been about the past couple years. the yotoko full length has a couple beauties, and alex cortex and dabrye, and... and.. i think it's a nice side effect of the brokenbeat thing... a marriage of detroit sounds with other beats. is anybody playing this stuff out? i'd love to hear a nice mix of downtempo detroit. esp on a real soundsystem.. -d -Original Message- From: Phonopsia [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Tuesday, January 06, 2004 5:05 PM To: Philip; 313 Subject: Re: (313) er techno - Original Message - From: Philip [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: 313 313@hyperreal.org Sent: Tuesday, January 06, 2004 10:24 PM Subject: (313) er techno So what labels are putting out groovy melodic techno ? Alex, I am feeling this release, I have heard 'it's weird' from a friend, however I got it home and liked it from the off, (of course you'll buy it, you'll be missing one otherwise;) Pretty much an afro groove, deep, beatsy, yet quite light hearted if you got Kai's trackmode release (which was a bit boring to me) and I cannot identify the sample, vbut it is very familiar to me. 1 sided wax though, I am gettiung slightly short tempered with MM's confidence that one hit, or two very short ones is worth ?7.49. See you tomorrow then, Happy new year to all...
(313) aussie promoters
I am hoping some of the aussie 313ers might be able to help out with this one. mathew jonson from itiswhatitis recordings in canada will be visiting australia in a couple of months and is looking for some promoters or clubs to arrange some DJ gigs with. Peeps might know mathew's records '5th element' by cobblestone jazz and 'she is he' which was featured on carl craig's 'workout' CD. If anyone can help out, hit me back and i'll pass on the info. Thanx a bunch. p-dogg

using pyslsk under osx requires installation of the mac developer tools (free) and a lng time spent unpacking and installing all kinds of python gibberish. despite the time it's pretty easy if you follow the instructions on the boards -- and it works. have never tried the others. --- Scotto [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: from my understanding you can run slsk on a mac os x.2+. there are two clients i am aware of nicotine and pysoulseek i guess there are now three i giving this slskX a chance. d/l right now. i have read that nicotine runs the best and here is the addie but i have not tried either yet, do not have the time. both these are linux clients and do not understand that os. i did find a guide but have not looked over it yet. http://nicotine.thegraveyard.org/ this is a guide for nicotine on os x http://members.cox.net/akbackup/nicotine/index.htm http://www.sensi.org/~ak/pyslsk/ let me know if it works i keep this pc around for slsk and would love to use my mac for it. scotto lansing, mi. plaztikjezuz.com - Original Message - From: jonathan morse [EMAIL PROTECTED] To: Jason Brunton [EMAIL PROTECTED]; Robert Taylor [EMAIL PROTECTED] Cc: 313 313@hyperreal.org Sent: Wednesday, January 07, 2004 5:49 AM Subject: Re: (313) re: soulseek for mac was michael mayer mixing was re:fabric live thread SoulseekX http://www.versiontracker.com From: Jason Brunton [EMAIL PROTECTED] Date: Thu, 8 Jan 2004 09:51:36 + To: Robert Taylor [EMAIL PROTECTED] Cc: 313 313@hyperreal.org Subject: Re: (313) re: michael mayer mixing was re: fabric live thread If its that good I'll eat them with a side order of humble pie and a sprinkling of humour and humility!
