Re: (313) Davina (Was Detroit Soul Questions)
If anyone is interested, I found out today from a friend into soul that Davina is featured on a new album by another MIA soul artist Laurnea that is out in Japan. Also Amp Fiddler's name in appears in the credits of the Davina album. It's such a small world, huh? I recently bought the 1998 Davina CD Best Of Both Worlds on Loud and it's classy. I borrowed it back then but, while enjoying it, I didn't realise then that she had a Detroit connection. I think my fave cut is still the single So Good, which has a Mary J feel. I know she did some music with UR ages ago, but I wonder what she's doing now? I really think Loud failed Davina (and most of its small RB roster).

Dynarec - The Lost Souls (44dsr/dnr2) (Tess Till 340 is track b2 of the single) anyone else heard this? It's hot! (like the last dynarec single) track b2 (this one mentioned) is a really fierce track that sort of sounds like the mad we are on tv track from the Life After Mutation ep on hardwax. Hot s**t! there's also a brilliant little interlude just after this track that reminds me of kraftwerk round about computer world time. mmm. this dynarec dude is good I think, up there with ultradyne/drexciya/dopplereffekt for sure. now, all we need is for someone to organise a dynarec vs ultradyne soundclash/battle. that would be some scary s**t. _ - End of message text This e-mail is sent by the above named in their individual, non-business capacity and is not on behalf of PricewaterhouseCoopers. (313) Q for US heads, might be OT
this might be off topic, so my apologies. I was just wondering, say you press a record in the US and put Promo Use Only, Not for Resale, Radio Use Only etc does that make you exempt from licensing laws or something? Or is it that if you get caught you can say well, we weren't trying to sell it The reason I ask is because you see it on most US bootlegs. You also see it on a compilation from a well known NYC house label thats been out recently, that I'm almost 99% sure is a bootleg. which is extremely cheeky I reckon, considering who the artists are... anyway, anyone know? RE: (313) Q for US heads, might be OT
Afaik, that is just a common myth-- similar to the myth that says that if a police officer with a broken headlight pulls you over, you cannot get a ticket-- or if you ask an undercover if he 'is a cop' before offering him marijuana at a party, you cannot get busted for possession. Breaking the law, is breaking the law-- no sticker makes you exempt. Remember all the pirate bulletin boards back in the day that made you agree that you were not a member of any law enforcement agency before they let you logon and download all their 0-0-1 day old warez? They all got busted anyhow. Same deal. If you don't clear your samples, there *is* a risk involved. It just depends on who you're sampling... some folks out there simply don't mind if you sample them. I'd stay away from RIAA represented artists, though. Afaik, that is just a common myth-- similar to the myth that says that if a well it is and it isnt. it does not exempt you from being sued for copyright infringement, but on the other hand, it does put you a little bit below the radar, the copyright owner has to go thru the trouble of finding out if the promo is indeed actually being sold. when we're talking small pressings in our little corner of the music industry, that little bit can help. funny, this topic just came up on global darkness, where we were talking about selling promos/whites... a prime example is i-f's mixed up in the hague cd on panama which was labelled as promo only. i dont think he was sued, but since then he has sought legal copyright clearance..so no mixed up #2 cus the licensing would be exorbitant, but we get those nice reissues like wanexa etc... jt _ Scope out the new MSN Plus Internet Software optimizes dial-up to the max! http://join.msn.com/?pgmarket=en-uspage=byoa/plusST=1

when I was a kid I used to see that all the time on records and thought that when someone from a radio station went to a second hand shop to sell them and pocket a few bucks that the clerk was supposed to be not only an upstanding citizen, but a champion for artists rights and refuse to buy them because they were promos but then I became older and jaded and realized that it probably had something to do with tax deductions for promotional expenses. life just isnt the same once the magic and innocence are gone... =) From: Thomas D. (313) delsin @ rush hour radio
for those interested.. a delsin mix at rush hour web Rush Hour Radio For this week we invited Marsel aka Peel Seamus from Delsin Records (Amsterdam). He gives us a run down of the latest upcoming releases of this wonderful Amsterdam label. To hear the set click here. http://music.rushhour.nl/rhradio/rh20040121.mp3 Tracklisting: 01. Yotoko - Back To Square One (42dsr) 02. Dj Yoav B - Luv Iz (45dsr) 03. Yotoko - Karma Soup (42dsr) 04. Dj Yoav B - Steam Drill (47dsr) 05. Dynarec - Use Only One (46dsr) 06. Dynarec - The Lost Souls (44dsr) 07. $tinkworx - Los Gatos Lloros (43dsr) 08. $tinkworx - Saliva (Putsch '79 remix) (43dsr) 09. Starfighterz - Flavor 1 (41dsr) 10. Dynarec - Tess Till 340 (44dsr) Delsin Records (Amsterdam) presenting their latest, and upcoming bits. I started the mix with the soulful jam by Yotoko (aka Domu Shifty) of their album 'Wet Ink'. Next up is the debut by Dj Yoav B from Isreal, until now only known for a remix he did for Aaron Carl. For me, this track really ends up somewhere between the Moodymann, Paperclip People and Newworldaquarium, with it's freestyle hiphop approach to house. Next up is Yotoko again, with the most housiest track of the album, somewhat reminding to Pepe Braddock's output. Fourth track is another by Dj Yoav B. This track comes more with a 80ties / Disco Not Disco vibe to it, very funky. Then it's twice Dynarec time, who will release his debut album in March. First is a more electronica/chill track, which to me very brought back shivers, reminding to the first Aphex Twin ambient album. His second track gives raw, funky electro, as only the masters Drexiya / Krwaftwerk can do. The man $tinkworx is up next, with twice pretty dirty disco styled house tracks, in style of Metro Area and others, an own track and the rollerskaterdisco remix by Putsch '79. The mix ends with two straight up techno things. First up, some advanced Sci-Fi techno, in good old Dan Curtin style, by Starfighterz. The last track, by Dynarec again, is charted no 1 by Dave Clarke in his latest techno chart, so you know what to expect!! Delsin / Peel Seamus say 'bis spater'.
