Re: [313] Richie
yeah, he played a smaller venue on friday nite somewhere in new york - not sure where though. . . i saw him at redno5 saturday nite (that place has some _devastating_ sound in the front room). he was on the top of his game. at one point he used what i assume was an sh-101 to produce this wicked bassey acid sound, sinked up to a beat on his 909. he gradually slowed the bpms down to about 0, so there was just this sustained distortion coming out. he then brought a faint beat back in with the 909 and proceeded to drop the previous track back in with full force. most of the kids in the club then bent down to pick their jaws up off the floor. k On Mon, 14 May 2001 [EMAIL PROTECTED] wrote: Just checked the event calandar on the m-nus website and it says that Richie was supposed to play at a small loft party in DUMBO, Brooklyn, NYC on Friday the 11th due to the Twilo closure. Re: [313] a smaller than usual Lil' Louis...
it was _hardly_ a shitty system. i'd say it was way above average. loud as f*ck, with no distortion. i think the point of contention with the dj was the angle that the stacks were facing. k I heard he almost didn't play at all because he didn't like the speaker setup and demanded they be moved around totally understandable. I truely don't think its fair to a dj to put him on a horrible system. the crowd naturally thinks the crappy sound is the dj's fault (at the very least it kills all the energy in their set). Woodstock was amazing because it wasn't planned to be huge while they were anticipating huge crowds at DEMF. actually i heard they were hoping for about 30,000 to 60,000 people last year, however i can't confirm this. but, i think that the reason why the demf was so amazing last year is that vastly exceeded everyone's expectations in terms of turnout and entertainment value. l

the only store i've had good results with is groovetech. i've gotten about 49 out of 50 records i've ordered from them, and the longest it has taken is four days from the date of my order. i tried sonic groove once and they took two weeks from the date of my order to even send the records out; i got 4 of 8 i ordered. sonic groove took a week to ship my order and i got 2 out of 8 records i ordered. i tried smallfish (uk) once. when i placed my order they had two (very hard to find) copies of 'acid lp,' one of which i happily put in my cart. they sent me an order confirmation and told me the records would ship the next day. after 3 weeks went by i e-mailed them to see what the hell was going on. they had lost my order, and, of course, 'acid lp' was long gone by this time. doh! (by the way, anyone have a spare copy?) so anyway, i recommend groovetech. k Hi peeps Can someone give me some advice for buying records online, ie - which stores should i but from? i've bought from submerge before, but was wondering about other stores like groovetech, recordtime, sonic groove. i've seen listened to plenty of records from the groovetech site that i want to buy. how long does it take to receive the records once ordering how are they with postage? are there any other sites i should try? any help will be greatly appreciated. cheers nath - To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

actually, it is not robotman's 'do da do,' as i have this one and i can confirm it is not what im looking for. whereas the vocals in the robotman track have a monotone delivery, the track that i am lookin for is much more melodic, and as i said, it sweeps back and forth between two octaves. also, i _think_ the track had an electro beat. basically, unless someone on this list was there, can remember his set, and is familiar with the track in question, i don't think i'll have any luck with a positive id, as my description appears to be somewhat lacking. thanks for the effort though. kyle i would like two tracks that mills played last nite. they were on either side of his 909 workout that he did at 1am. i especially like the one he dropped after the 909 session. male vocal (kinda deep, like an alto range) continuously shifting back and forth between two octaves, while saying,do-do, do-do-do. really wicked track. it stands way out as there isn't much like it out there. i've heard richie also play it a few times. any help? kyle - To unsubscribe, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED] For additional commands, e-mail: [EMAIL PROTECTED]

Re: [313] FWD: RE: [313] C-pop Opening (Ron Zakrin) IBEX performance
The reality is because Rich is more photogenic, that impish little grin! Tosh plus, the dj booth looks a little more impressive with the 909, 707(?), and sh-101 on hand. not to mention that, during the demf, and possibly including any previous event at hart plaza, there were never more people on hand than during richie's set. kyle
Re: [313] Richie in London
I had no idea they were in London! What club were the playing at? I've not seen them listed for The End - they're supposed to be residents there this year. london, ontario? i'll restrain myself from bitching about the venue - it wouldn't be difficult. john was decent, but not what i was looking for. richie was richie. can anyone else control the intensity of a techno set better than him? he is in complete control of the room at all times, taking everyone up and down, up and down. he did some good stuff with the effects. (does he use his own souped up effects processor, or does he use the mixer for that)? i noticed that he would sample something and put it on an endless delay loop and then run that through a phase shifter - sounded pretty sweet. i also noticed that throughout his set, mainly during the intensity peaks, a sort of fog-horn sound would come out giving a raw edge (i think it is a trademark of his as i've definitely heard it before). and sometimes it would start up when he was going through his crate, so it is apparently not something that he directly initiates. some sort of feedback loop? whatever, it was a good set. kyle
Re: [313] Richie in London
foghorn? could it have been the sound of a jet airplane flying overhead instead? it was on it's own aux/send (probably) and triggered by a pedal or some other device. no, i definitely wasn't mistaking a fog horn for a jet airplane. i don't know how else to describe it. it sounded just like a fog horn, but slightly higher pitched. it would gradually build, then fade, lasting about 5 seconds, with seemingly random intervals between tones. kyle
meet up at rise! tonite?
anyone wanna meet up tonite at the richie and john show? kyle
an observation
a few months back someone posted to the list requesting a description of richie hawtin's minus yellow. i believe the only response that was posted was like, pretty boring - sounds just like minus orange, or something to that effect. a couple weeks later i came across it in a record bin but didn't pull it out, recalling what i had heard about it. recently i've borrowed a copy from a friend and have grown quite fond of it, and i get a kick out of the samples from ferris beuller. plus there are some pretty nice locked grooves that are good dj tools: you can go from one side of orange to a yellow locked groove, and then flip orange (its the same bpm) to the other side and quickly mix it in. sounds pretty good IMO. so now i'm quite wishing i had picked up that copy i saw in the record bin. just goes to show ya. . . kyle
Re: [313] an observation
i saw it at recordtime, but its obviously long gone. good luck finding it. if you do, let me know :) kyle On Fri, 26 Jan 2001, Scotto wrote: were did you see it? and do they have online ordering. Re: [313] pacou/rob hood
hi all sorry if this has already been discussed, but how was Pacou (friday) and Rob Hood (saturday) at Motor? thanks kao jyan robert rocked the house on saturday nite. his dj'ing was flawless - and for the most part he was banging it out, detroit style. unfortunately i'm not too familiar with his production, so i can't say what tracks he played for his pa, only that i was shaking my ass to them. for a couple different tracks he had a (very good) live female vocalist accompany him. this made for some pretty powerful moments. kyle
let's talk about some rekkids
i just picked up a bunch of wax over the past week. here's some of what i like: i was pleasantly surprised to find richie's 'sheet one' and 'musik' at record time. i also picked up the (first?) plus 8 classics, with 'substance abuse' and 'technarchy,' plus speedy j's 'evolution' and fuse vs lfo: 'loop' heiko laux: 'sensifiction' - remixes pt one (kanzleramt). the surgeon remix is quite good. some of his typical polyrhythm stuff. the kick drum has kind of an electro beat rather hitting on every quarter. also some heavy hitting 909 thrown in. jay denham: dreamworld ep (sector 616). the more i hear from this guy the more i like his production. most of the tracks on this one have a hard detroit sound (go figure) with repeating vocals that are continuously morphing - like dbx's 'losing control.' dj rush: freaks on hubbard, remixes (pro-jex). the dave clark remix of this track is completely off the hook. highly recommended. chester beatty vs. dj shufflemaster: straight-ahead (cloned vinyl). the a-side has a surgeon remix that is pretty sweet. but the original is on the b-side: ohmigosh! this is devastating techno!!! if you wanna tear the roof off a party, just use this. kyle
Re: [313] not black enough...
snip If trippynis becomes involved in art it becomes crap. snip just don't say this to any fans of dali, picasso, escher, van gogh, the doors, pink floyd etc etc etc etc etc. kyle
Re: [313] was Re: [313] quick note...is Scandanavia
snip Neil Landstrumm's coming, too. Does anyone know if he's playing live or djing? Either way, is he doing the digital madness now? Or is his stuff still funky and danceable (hopefully both :) n8 ummm, i checked the motor website, but i did not see anything about neil landstumm. do you know something they don't? kyle
Re: [313] Some difficulties
The 313 server seems to be having some problems right now. My question is, does anyone else know if there is someone else we should be contacting, or is everyone else except a handful of us getting through fine? ever since i joined this list i've noticed that i haven't been recieving all of the posted messages in my inbox. for example, i often see new posts when people reply with the original message text. kyle
afrogermanic
i heard a really sweet remix of this a couple weeks ago. i can't really describe it too well other than by saying that it was slowed down - somewhere around a 'house' tempo. any info?

Re: [313] Detroit Raves??
that was awful nice of you. how do you know s/he's not into the music? and who cares if s/he's not? a lot of people get attracted to the raves because of drugs, the scene, the reputation, whatever. what generally happens is that the people's intentions generally show in what they make of raves later on. there are people that get too old for the raves, there are people that get jaded, sure... but there will be the select few who really get into the music... even if they didn't appreciate the music to begin with. and to push that person into a stereotype isn't cool at all. Mike i agree with this. i didn't even know what the hell techno was until i went to my first rave a number of years ago. since then i've gone on to whole-heartedly embrace this genre of music. now i think its the best thing since sliced bread. the point is that i owe my cognizance of techno to 'raving.' (although such formerly underground activities are no longer AS integral for exposure to this once underground musical form as it has recently been proliferating mainstream culture). kyle
