RE: New Hood releases

2016-01-21 Thread Paul Kendrick
Yeah I get that it makes sense for other labels to put the music out due to
costs etc. The comment was more about the fact Hood rarely puts music out on
other labels. I would presume the terms you mention that he’d ask for may be
hard to agree on, just speculation though.

Personally I really like Dekmantel it’s a strong label.

If you're able to get other people to spend money to release your music and
come to an agreement about terms, why not? Hood can always make more tracks.
Running your own label takes time and money, and the monetary rewards of doing
so keep diminishing.

If there's a market for your product, focus on the product, not the marketing.

Rob Hood has been pretty busy of late, he's got 3 new ep's and an album coming

From the snippets, he's really bangin' it out, reminiscent of his earlier works

I have no real information on these no shows (just whats been said here) but I

I really don't have an opinion on what TP is doing...but I do have a couple of
thoughts

One-as I have also had the opportunity to perform with, and talk with
Terrence...I don't find him to be a 'superstar' dj...I find him to be almost a
total square peg. To me, that doesn't matter much. As I have been following
this, I've had a couple of feelings about it. One-many people enjoy kicking
you while you're down. And, two: This music business has always been a game
played by people with honest hearts against those who would rather eat your
heart for breakfast.

My hope is that he'll tell us all the story in some public way (whether he
'makes his goal' or not). I believe it could be a great cautionary
tale-because some kid with a good ear and stars in their eyes needs to know
that this business and life have a dark side. I've lived the good times and
the bad in music, and can say with great talent comes great pain.

I refuse to trash TP publicly. I do think that on its face this issue
looks horrible for him and his 'image.' As a believer in God, it also can be
difficult for the non-secular among us to not think of Televangelists begging
for money before 'God calls me home.' I only hope that he is able to make a
resolution.

Personally-I've been homeless TWICE, lost 75% of my records, all my memorabilia
and two different hardware studio setups already...and I've never, NEVER been
able to find an agent willing to work for me. One day it may happen.

However you look at this situation-it's really quite sad and painful to watch.
If you like being uncomfortable, it's a great drama.

I'll keep my eyes on something more positive instead.

Missing gigs as a DJ is really hard to live down. As an example, Paul Johnson
got a reputation as a no show, and I think that it still effects the number and
quality of bookings he gets to this day.

I just want people to know that whatever happened, TP is a human being too.
There's a tendency -- and I'm not accusing anyone on this list per se -- to
pile on when someone's down, and I couldn't see it happen to someone I know and
respect and hold my tongue.

most promoters are actually reasonable . you do get idiots same as in any other

promoters and give them time to find a replacement dj and working on solutions
with them then a good way can be found in resolving issues . i work with mainly
american dj's . 1 of those dj's had to cancel a whole tour of 10 dates last
december as his mom was out of the blue , diagnosed with a terminal illness and
he just wanted to go home , understandably so . i immediately reached out to
promoters and asked the said dj to also publish a formal statement apologizing
to fans who had already purchased tickets for some of those shows . 100 % of
the promoters were very supportive . we managed to reschedule all of the shows .

i heard that 1 of the promoters involved in the TP situation went as far as the
airport and he was nowhere to be seen . they got an email that evening saying
he could not make it and they feel that they were not even afforded a valid
reason for the no show !

my biggest worry with this situation is that , this fallout will impact other
dj's - just because they happen to be american . when i started working with
dj's beginning of 2008 . i approached several known clubs in europe and as soon
as they realized that i was working with mainly american dj's some went as far
as to say that they simply are not comfortable with working with american dj's
because they come with problems . i.e. , not showing up for gigs and general

Hi guys, not really 313, but 312..it's only a digit out and i know
theres some fans of chicago house on here

This is a mix I did for Dj International Radio, using records
predominantly from 87/88/89.

Any excuse to do a Chicago House mix ;). These records make up the
spine of my collection, which has been built around the early years
86/87/88 from which so much good music was released. This mix is a
shade under 2 hours of 'Music that's good for your soul' to quote the
now sadly deceased Frankie knuckles. I've thrown in a few unavoidable
crackles and mixes that aren't synced to within an inch of their lives
make the mix a bit more organic than the usual offerings. To make
ilife even more difficult, as with all my mixes, there's never any
planning, I choose a first record and go from there, if I let a record
for its duration it's because it's either a brilliant record which
should be heard in it's entirety or I'm frantically searching for the
record I want to go with it (usually a combination of both. I hope you
enjoy listening to it as much as I did making it.

313'ers,

May I humbly submit an LP for your consideration?

http://brianprince.bandcamp.com/

The Accretion Disc is a compilation of 13 of my favorite tracks from the past
13 years. Three of them have been released previously on Fabrice Lig's Melodika
label (and two were signed to Digital Soul without being released), but most of
the material here is on sale for the first time, and everything has received
additional mastering and editing for the album. The price of the download
version is pay-what-you-want, starting at $6 (US), and 313 list members can use
the following discount code for an extra 10% off: 313represent

If you don't like how Bandcamp handles streaming previews, there's also a
ten-minute sampler -- with bits of each track -- up on my Soundcloud:

Huge thanks to Mr. Andrew Duke for giving the newest track on the album,
Barycenter, a spin on his latest show.

And thanks all around being such a supportive community over the years.

Hope you enjoy the tunes, and sorry for the spam,

Yeah solid line up, I have a ticket, looking forward to it very much...I hope
the venues good as that's a sure fire way to kill a potentially good party
before its started.

London does get good 313 line ups but not like this...Hood Mills playing at
the same party. been a long long time since that happened.

RE: (313) Depeche Mode - Personal Jesus remix

2013-06-20 Thread Paul Kendrick
I agree with some of your points, but for me I'd not mix the unedited track in,
just fade and let the song do its work. I've seen DJ Harvey play Africa, around
disco house records and he played the original, it worked, it got an enormous
sing along and desired effect reached.

Carl Craig has done edits in the past under the name C2C4 on Moxie, the Talking
heads edit for me is pointless- PLAY THE ORINGINAL - Don't just loop the drums
because the vocals really make that track, it would frustrate me on the dance
floor that I never got to sing along.

I saw Nick Hoppner at the Panorama bar and he drop 'its our life' by Talk Talk,
it was the original, the vocals kick in really fast but it worked, the whole
place had their arms in the air and were singing along

Subject: Re: (313) Depeche Mode - Personal Jesus remix

If you are a radio DJ, sure, but from the viewpoint of a serious dance DJ I
would definitely would want an edit for these reasons:

1. Most important, at minimum you need to loop up something at beginning and
end for mixing into and out of

2. Typical pop song structure is too short for the dance floor, it really makes
it's point as quickly as possible and suddenly the song is over. This doesn't
create the type of altered state of consciousness you want for dancers; to me
dancing is very spiritual and you want music/rhythms that are conducive to
attaining a real trance state, without needing drugs. I am not really a big fan
of your normal pop music formulate, it's very limiting.

3. For me personally, the chorus is a bit too epic and cheese, I'd prefer to
somehow tone it down somehow, filter and otherwise dub it out, and probably
would only let it appear once, not multiple times as in normal pop song
structure. The verse works for me, but it so clearly leads into the chorus that
it probably needs to still occur before the chorus. So, if I was editing it, I
would definitely focus on the intro bit, and the bridge with the keyboard solo;
that changes it from a pop song into a dance track...

4. The type of production is really a mismatch in a set of house and techno
records, basically in terms of the drums. Adding a bit of drum machine really
makes it work better on the dance floor. (Remember...
This is EXACTLY what the originators of house were doing with some disco
records!)

Just one man's opinion, I'm sure others disagree, but as someone who has
released edits, perhaps the above will explain what it is that drives me to do
a bunch of work to alter a song that is already a good song... in a nutshell,
the radio pop song form is quite different from the type of form I prefer as a
DJ. There might be exceptions when I do play a pop song if I figure out a
brilliant way to mix it in, or it's the last song in a set, or for some reason
I want to surprise people, but it's not something I would do often.

Ooh what a question.
Despite all the amazing well-known guests, I think the best party was one at
the Rhythm Factory in which you played some ace disco and house to warm up,
Nick Craddock and Rick Hopkins played some banging tunes (DJ HMC's LSD being a
particular highlight), and Haze finished off the night with an epic eclectic
set, despite being under the weather with flu at the time. I remember going

Towards the end of the live set there's a full on 303 assault as Stefan's

Despite all the amazing well-known guests, I think the best party was one at
the Rhythm Factory in which you played some ace disco and house to warm up,
Nick Craddock and Rick Hopkins played some banging tunes (DJ HMC's LSD being a

A while back when I was part of a promoter thing called Outlet based in London,
we put DJ Pete on a lot and I must say his not only a stand up all round top
fella, but an ace DJ, can put on a top live set as Substance and when Scion
played for us doing Arrange Process, him and Rene had the crowd moshing. Most
funny.

If you ever get the chance to see him spin at his residency at the Berghain I
would also recommend that, its not only Dettmann and Klock who can do the long
sets in the main room, Pete is ace at this too, and is sort of over looked.

I think I may have the Substance live set he did for Outlet recorded, which I
can upload if anyone would be interested?

RE: (313) Scott Hardkiss

2013-04-02 Thread Paul Kendrick
Very sad news regarding Scott, I have all the early Hardkiss records and
around the mid 90's they were well respected producers and the records were
commanding fairly good 2nd prices, adding to their reputation.

Some of the stuff sounds very dated now but a large amount still sounds good
and could be played out today and get a good response. I don't really remember
any of the Hardkiss crew coming to the UK much, Scott Robbie played at the
legendary London party The Final Frontier at Club UK once, apart from that I
cant remember many other visits, which is a shame as they had their own sound
for sure.

Sad to hear about his untimely passing as I sure he was still young.

R.I.P. Scott Hardkiss

Mar 25th, 2013 | By Darren Ressler | Category: Featured Post, Features

DJ/producer Scott Hardkiss passed away unexpectedly earlier today. In the early
'90s Scott Friedel was a member of pioneering San Francisco DJ/producer trio
Hardkiss which was rounded out by musical partners Gavin and Robbie. The
Hardkiss Brothers (who weren't biologically
related) helped nourish and influence the era's fledgling West Coast sound -
psychedelia mixed with Balearic, house and techno - via Bay Area warehouse
parties as well as remixes and productions issued on Hardkiss Music. After
relocating to New York City in the late '90s, Scott, who also recorded under
the God Within moniker (listen to his classic Raincry below), went on to
remix for the likes of Elton John, George Clinton and The Flaming Lips. In 2009
he released his well- received debut album, Technicolor Dreamer, and he also
contributed music to various film, television and commercial projects led by
Spike Lee, Wes Anderson and Richard Linklater.

When I was running Mixer magazine, I worked closely with Scott on Mixer
presents United DJs of America Vol. 17: Scott Hardkiss released in 2001. I got
to know him well on a professional and social basis. Scott was a singular
individual who marched to his own beat; he was an exceptionally talented
individual who saw the world with a unique view.
He was wildly intelligent and had an incredibly dry sense of humor that always
brought a smile to my face. Whenever Scott was behind the decks, I'd marvel at
the soundtrack he wove together with strains of house, breaks, trance and
beyond that few could replicate.

Have a listen to his Essential Mix and soak in the essence of Scott Hardkiss'
beautiful musical soul.

Rest in peace, my friend.

Update, March 26 12:00pm: There has been an outpouring of love from people
remembering Scott on social media. (See below.)

Wade Hampton (a.k.a. WishFM), who knew Scott during their days on the San
Francisco scene, told Big Shot: Scott was a visionary. Although he was as
elusive as any DJ could be at the dawn of our EDM movement, he helped build a
loyal strong family unit with Hardkiss Family. That's all that mattered to us.
As long as we knew he always reaching for perfection, the path we took really
didn't matter...and this cool cat attained it all the time. I'll miss my homie
dearly.

Dance Community Refelections: RIP Scott Hardkiss Friedel

Jorge Hernandez Posted March 26, 2013

Influential San Francisco DJ and producer Scott Hardkiss Friedel passed away
Monday night at the age of 43. The cause of death has not been confirmed at
this time but is believed to be an aneurysm. It has previously been noted that
Hardkiss had keratoconus, a degenerative eye condition that required transplant
surgery in 2011, and one of his last social posts a few days ago was about him
not feeling well.

A key player in growing the early '90s rave scene in San Francisco as one third
of the Hardkiss Brothers (along with spiritual kin Gavin and Robbie
Hardkiss), Scott also had a successful solo career as a DJ and producer. One of
his best-remembered tracks is 1993's Raincry
released under his God Within alias. In the late '90s, Scott moved to New York
and assumed his full-time persona as Scott Hardkiss, purveyor of pop songs
touched with Balearic breakbeats and transcendent funk. He went on to do
remixes for artists as varied as Elton John, the Flaming Lips and George
Clinton. His debut album Techinicolor Dreamer was released in 2009 and was
accompanied by remixes from Christian Prommer, Bjorn Torske, Telepathe and
Brennan Green. Scott is remembered as an adventurous collaborator by those that
worked with him, including Lisa Shaw, Dean Britta, and Q-Burn's Abstract
Message just to name a few.

In a blog post, Q-Burns (Michael Donaldson) recalls meeting Scott in the

You not going Ken?

Id have been up for going if I was able to go...its a great room for
exhibitions, but it could have sound problems if not handled correctly and the
Tate have failed at the first hurdle so I hope its not a sign of things to come.

Nicholas Serota (Director of Tate) says it's not the first time the website has
crashed from over demand, so he must have known there would be the same
problem. So this leads me to think he doesn't care enough to sort out the
problems and in turn couldn't care about the shows them self's and the sound
bouncing around in that concrete room.

London has Marcellus Pittman Floating Points at Plastic People which will

Robert Hood is playing live at Fabric.

Even with all that happening I don't think I'll make it out clubbing to be

a13 had some great stuff. john tejada has a great album on a13 - quadruple
vinyl - reminiscent of the stuff he put out on 7th city

it always seems to be uk labels - so i will add another: fragmented

http://www.discogs.com/label/Fragmented%20Records

the jamie read (lhas) album on fragmented is a firm favourite of mine
- again, don't think it got much in the way of props

also great releases from paul mac, morgan geist, dan curtin, chris gray.

While a series of projects are slated for release under the Dirt Tech Reck
banner, the first is
the Electric Street Orchestra. Its inspiration is from those who are called
street people.
Those whose voices have been smothered by mainstream goliathes. Forgotten
people from a forgotten
city. It's also steeped in the Detroit tradition of ignoring the notion of
genre and taking a broad
range of elements and inspiration to create something that is both new and
familiar. Bringing together
a constellation of Detroit's sonic masters. DTR-01 takes UR's Mad Mike and
Agent Chaos, house music
king Theo Parrish, hip hop/house percussionist Dez Andres, and rock/funk master
guitarist Duminie
Deporres, and joins them through the lens of Jeedo's vision of the future.

Produced by Jeedo for DTR. Additional production and vox by Mad Mike Banks,

When a record came out on Electron Industries we'd get very excited as much so
as a new UR record, which was a big thing back then. The clear vinyls were all
excellent records but the double 12 by Sem is a monster.

Mark Brooms a really nice down to earth guy, he use to live in the same area as
me in London, Bethnal Green. We'd always end up seeing each other in the
supermarket, very techno - haha. His moved out North of London now.

Eddies full of very funny stories, years ago towards the end of out door raves
Eddie somehow ended up having Frankie Bones living with him in Southend, I
think Frankie was getting booked a lot in the UK around this time. The story
goes that Frankie stayed for about 4 month but had to return to NYC because he
couldn't handle the madness of Eddies life and the scrapes he'd get him into,
and apparently Frankie was a broken man when he returned homehahaha

Electron Industries / Sem / Octagon Man were always highlights for me when new
releases came out in the shops. Man... to get those colored vinyls in clear
sleeves seemed highly coveted cause only a handful would ever make it to town.

Nice story on Eddie of A13.
Closest I got to A13 (the label) was when Mark Broom came to DJ a small tour in
the US up in New Hampshire (when I lived in Boston at the time) to play with
Spacetime Continuum and then Autechre was the Headliner. Mark Killed it DJ'ing.
I was overly obsessed at the time and must carried up 5 or 6 Pure Plastic / A13
releases Mark Produced and had him sign the vinyl/sleeves

Soma might be an obvious label to mention too, but there are quite a few
releases that were NOT huge by any means.. and still pretty good.
Even some of Slam's non single Album cuts are quite worthy.

Paul...if I lived yer way... we'd totally be Mates by the sound of your Record
Collection..

Seems like the battery of UK Techno labels from the 90's are big sleepers in
the larger community of Techno, but seem to be coveted and admired greatly by
many of us that remain on this list. That is kinda comforting as I haven't
thought about them much unless a track happened to pop up in iTunes that I may
have digitally recorded.

I think this thread could carry on for weeks as peeps start digging through
their collections again and go... 'oh yeah, I remember that one!'

Last time I was there it seemed Cisco had shut, I use to think Disc Union was
the best store Ive ever been in but recently they moved the Shibuya store
around and now the techno/ house is on the 3rd floor which is much smaller and
indie/rock/metal is where the techno use to beshamebut Haqq's artwork
was still there. Because of this I felt on my last visit that Disk Union
Shimokitazawa was a better site.
Shimokitazawa has lots of cool vintage stores and record stores, you must check
out city country city its a record store in a cafésmall but ace vinyl
section.

I'm a little puzzled about some of the technical details also:

What size is the hole in the middle? Presumably it has to be large enough
to accommodate the 15mm-ish spindle CD players use? Do you get some special
adaptor for the smaller spindle on a vinyl turntable?

I make a CD to be only just larger than the label area on a conventional
modern record. So either it only has a few seconds playing time or (more
likely) it has a playable groove extending further toward the centre of the
disc? But not all tone arms will move this far, some only expect to get as
far as the run out groove of conventional vinyl and their range doesn't
extend beyond that.

Or am I being really stupid not visualising this thing correctly?

I'd like to think that the extra weight on the spinner in the CD
player would cause the electric motor to burn up
slowly...especially the
older ones. Those CD players were designed to handle the weight of a
 CD, not a CD/record.

Then again the CD/DVD combos seem to work ok in their players even
though they are thicker. --Original Message--

Got another Mills album in - The Occurance and I've never seen
 anything like it.

It's a CD. But you turn it over and it's a mini-vinyl disk. With
music on it. That you play on a normal record player. So that's two
formats for the price of one - anyone ever seen anything like this
 before?

Wow - he's The Man From Tomorrow alright!

I've been a bit too scared to put the CD in my computer to listen to
the album (it looks a wee bit thicker than a normal CD but that could
be an illusion) so I can't give any reports on it yet!

 cheers

shipping ended up taking weeks, the US express freight carrier not

Nice review thanks, would love to have gone to that gig but i was away
when the tickets came out and then they were stupid money on ebay.
Still im glad i caught them at Brixton a few years back, not just for
the music, but for the great characters in the audience also! I'll
never forget a small guy in his 60s dancing completely out of rhythm
with a smile on his face. That gig seem to attaract every type of
fan. I would of liked to have gone to the brixton gig afterwards at
midnight just to see the difference in set and people. Did anyone go
to both, was there differences? Cheers

2009/7/4 fran...@thatamazingthing.com:
 Very brief would be:  Fantastic!

 A bit more would be:

For those who saw the Minimum Maximum tour (or have subsequently seen the
DVD) the set up and the set were similar.

Some things were total like for like - start with Man Machine, end with Music
Non-stop, I think the set might have been something
 like this

 The Man-Machine
 Home Computer
 Tour De France
 Autobahn
 Trans Europe Express
 Metal On Metal
 Neon Lights
 Show Room Dummies
 The Model

 The Robots

 Numbers
 Computer World
 Vitamin
 Radioactivity
 Aéro Dynamik
 Music Non Stop

Might not be fully accurate, my memory's terrible, I did this by looking at
the Minimum Maximum track list, knocking out what I
don't remember them playing (not sure about Home Computer), rearranging into
the 3 spits and adding Show Room Dummies which is the
one thing I remember them doing not from Minimum Maximum - maybe other peepz
can chip in and correct, it was great to meet list
members Robin and Dan there, maybe (almost certainly) they recall better.

I saw Minimum Maximum at The Apollo in Manchester, the sound there was
tremendous, at this gig from where we were (right at the very
front!) it was not as good but same ballpark.  I believe from friends in
seated areas further away / less central that it wasn't so
good there, one bunch got cheap, last minute seats where they said it sounded
terrible and they couldn't see the screen but were
lucky that they moved to stand elsewhere and the stewards were very chilled
and didn't move them on.  Others were just an awful long
 way from the stage.

I guess this is understandable as the Manchester Velodrome isn't meant as a
gig venue.  From where we were the show was great and
the gig was definitely run well with no long queues etc.  I'd be interested
in whether Kraftwerk agreed to play the gig for
Manchester International Festival before the gig got placed there or if that
was a big part of them playing as you might expect.

So apart from the odd song what was different to MM?  Well first there was
the replacement of Florian.  Obviously this is something
we've seen before but (apart from it being one of the founder / life of the
band members) the difference was it was someone who
looked way younger than the others!  To me this lacked a bit of gravitas but
 my girlfriend liked it ;-)

The videos used were also same as MM but with one big difference.  At the
entrance you were given 3D specs and all the stuff after
Robots above had been redone in 3D.  And I've got to say it was awesome.  I
live very close to an IMAX cinema and have seen plenty
3D stuff there but though the screen was smaller here it seemed better, at
times the stuff that was on the screen behind them not
only seemed to come out the screen but when placed in front of the band
seemed to obscure them.  How dey do dat?  It was brilliant.

Possibly the highlight of the night though came early on when, during Tour De
France, members of the British national cycling team
took to the Velodrome track.  Us Brits are quite fond of our cyclists at the
moment as they are about our most successful sporting
team, dominating the Beijing Olympics etc. so they got a mega reception and
everyone got the Kraftwerk significance (I think /
hope!).  But best of all for me I was stood near enough the stage to see that
Ralf was totally buzzing  - you'd expect that but he
had a massive smile on his face as he called the names of the cyclists out
and he grinned away and nearly danced throughout the
 track!

Top night, maybe the one shame was that the Steve Reich piece that supported
was pretty much lost in the size of the venue / people
 anticipating what was to follow.

Started with a bit of Frankie Vega and then Electrobounce on the waterfront,
keeping the upbeats with da man Brian G and the crew -- that was fun.
Caught a bit of Al Ester and Osunlade on the main stage and then headed
offsite to the DJs and Backpacks barbecue put together by Cornelius Harris
as a fundraiser to provide backpacks for school kids. This was at the
outside patio of Z's Villa, a cool tavern and restaurant in the New Center
area and when you are Cornelius you can get the likes of Terrence Parker

and Aux 88 to play -- I was there while TP was on the decks and had the good
fortune to meet up with Otto and Cisco. Those who know should check out
www.alteregomgt.com, and nice one Cornelius and everyone!

We got back to the festival in time to hear Octave One absolutely rip it up
in the underground stage. Their sound is strong enough to dent even that
sonic mess and they had the crowd jumping. But otherwise the garage kept
eating DJs alive.

I missed Neil Landtstrumm but heard he played well and quirky...
speaking
of quirky I watched the Wighnomy Brothers for a bit. I gather they are from
eastern Germany and have put out a number of minimal/tech-house type
releases. Meanwhile, Luciano was spooning out his non-quirky tech-house on
the main stage. There's nothing really wrong with his selections but I
always feel like he plays it safe.

Afterparties -- a mixed bag. I could hear Larry Heard playing from the
rooftop at New Bookie's from blocks away. But in the building was another
story -- a bunch of drunk sports bar people, so I left immediately.
Putting that behind I made my annual pilgrimage to Lafayette Coney Island --
no disappointments there.

The turnout for Buzz Goree's Homecoming party at the Tangent gallery was
really good, and we were treated to a long and densely interwoven set by
Jeff Mills. I've only seen him play a handful of times, and this probably
didn't measure up to his legendary ones, but it was the best I've seen from
him, especially the last half hour or so -- surging and swirling, and a lot
of fun to watch.

Finally, No Way Back -- well, that was the right name for it! The Bo House
is a great place for a classic one-red-light-and-killa-sound Detroit party.
When Derrick the mad acid king Plaslaiko cranked up the tracks with the
wiggly worm sound from the shiny little box it was slammin!

Yeah, a good day overall ...

Subject: Re: (313) Octave One at Berghain, Berlin this Saturday night

Well as it turned out I -did- get rejected at the door, but was saved
from a cold walk back to the hotel by being on Octave One's list. So
all's well . . .

I arrived just as Octave One were starting; they played precisely an
hour between 5:00 and 6:00 and then an encore. As usual they were
on form, really upbeat performance with a fairly good crowd reaction
for most of it. The sound wasn't great during their set, a bit crackly,
although I've observed that big sound systems are very unforgiving to
live setups whether analog and/or digital.

During the encore Lenny did Moby one better -- not only did he get
up on the table where all the gear was to cheer on the crowd, he
continued to play, reaching down to hit the controls at the right moment.
Maybe not as great as Hendrix playing the guitar with his teeth but
pretty darn exciting :)

Kevin Saunderson was also on his best game, none of the cheesy stuff
I've heard him play the last few times I've seen him -- housey techno all
the way with the usual bits of Good Life thrown in throughout. The
floor was up for it the whole way and he had a big smile.

I didn't stay long after that, the following DJ was kind of boring and the
Panaromabar was overcrowded with semi-drunk scenesters. The club
is big and the sound in the main room is impressive (though not the
best i've ever heard, that honor goes to the old 177 Townsend system
in SF and the Twilo system in NY). The crowd was reasonably friendly
and actually dancing quite a bit. I don't think I'm likely to go back
except
for a special occasion like this if I happen to be in Berlin again, because
when you get down to it, it's really just another big club with door staff
who discriminate because they can. I've been in and around the music
scene for much, much longer than they have, and I don't need that sh1t.

cheers

Fred

quality.  They should have known that their busines plans based on
large trucks and SUV's in the 1990's would only last for so long.

I have known far too many people that work in the industry and feel
that they are owed something and have very little pride in their
work, which is a huge cause in the lack of quality.  I had two sides
of my family working for Ford or Chrysler (pre Daimler) and sadly
this is really what I saw growing up.

I had two Chyslers and one Ford, none of which made it past 100k.
Well, the Ford I dumped with 36k because it was already having problems.

This might not be a popular view, but it is my honest opinion and it

No thanks, I don't want your shoes mate, it's just um, well, I though I
might know him that's all.
I know a guy that's got that CD see, but he won't lend it to me. Could be
the same guy you gave it to.
