Not truly ambient but fitting nicely into the ambient techno territory that Biosphere used to inhabit during his earlier days. As Glaciarc is a great debut release for Tundra Music it will be interesting to see what both artists and the label produce in the future Paul Lloyd. -- The debut (180gram thick) 12 split-EP on Tundra Music merges two artists that by geography are worlds apart, but that stylistically inhabit very much the same space. Tim Jackiw (Offworld/The Void) hails from Adelaide, Australia - whilst Tim Martin (Maps Diagrams // Pause2, Static Caravan, Neo Ouija, Cactus Island) resides in Cambridge, England. Both share a lengthy history of making and playing music, whether it be DJ'ing or hosting radio shows. Both are intent on extracting emotion from their analogue music machines, and seem to strive for an obvious depth in their `sound' launching the listener on a sonic journey that doesn't have any apparent destination. This EP presents playful slices of atmosphere, complimented by soft rhythms and gentle, yet moving shades of melody. Maps Diagrams and Tim Jackiw peacefully display their talent with precise electronic music as the backdrop. This one surpasses Wolves.. in style and finesse, and simply takes the spot for the most creative, lively and funky 45-min affair for Marumari --tracks like indigo florist take you bake to 70s funk/disco!. This one has been inconstant rotation on the player, as it spans many genre's that slightly touch upon Wolves.. but entirely redefines it. Confusing, i know. But this one is a gem. Techno, funk, disco, ambience all in 45 minutes.. what sort of style is the SD album? i got the razorback album on K7 and itwas mainly DnB, is this on more on the techno tip? I don't have any of Sean's previous work, but rest assured that there is no DnB on this full-length w/ Intuit Solar. Most of the tracks rely on Indio styled techno, ambient electronica with smooth transitions and weaving melodies. On another note --Denver McCarthy just released a 12 on Statra called Roughage. The title of this record accurately describes the music --a combination of housey 4/4 beats with a sonic splash of rough techno --excellent for DJ'ing in a small room w/ loads of bass. DeFocus is about releasing high caliber electronic listening music for people to enjoy both emotionally and physically. If you log in to www.egroups.com and do a search under deFocus, you'll come up with an e-list forum for the discussion of all things deFocus related. Here's a message i sent to the list a week ago.. CiM's Reference cd/lp has not been released, yet. It will officially hit the streets on June 26.00. DeFocus has established distribution through Pinnacle, and via Dutch East India located at www.dutch-east.com. Clair at deFocus also has ties with Smallfish at www.smallfish.co.uk. I hope the rest of the info below helps you out a bit. I'm sure you'll see this title available at Riouxs, Skimo, Bent Crayon and other fine establishments. The new CiM release entitled Reference includes 22 tracks of spaced out digital funk with finely tuned Detroit flavored rhythms. These tracks have never been released before, and --according to the press release they span from `96-`00. You can definitely see the array of sounds on Reference as it clearly credits Simon previous and current work. DeFocus does it again! Well.. i think i've just located one of the best Novel 23 tunes ever. It's featured on the new Music Volume One compilation on Benbecula Records.. Novel 23's track is simply stunning to the nth degree --intelligent listening music that unfolds into a digital mess of harmonious beats, swirls, glitches and beeps. Lovely i must say. Bauri also produces a highlight on this comp featuring an array of bumpy melodies all wrapping around a disjointed beat. Quite relaxing, actually. These tracks are aligned next to others that branch off into smooth/casual electronica and straight techno. I'd suggest this release if you would like to hear music. Music that doesn't rely on any genre. Music Volume One.
